Heya Strans,

Thank you,
Yes just a simple song, from a simple fellar smile

The open back banjo played in clawhammer style is a wonderful instrument and the cool little melodies they get out of them is really unique. The style I like is the old timey folk type stuff. I am in search of a open back banjo to try and learn this way of playing.
I will be posting some vids of a harmony and songwriting workshop I attended and they used the banjo this way in some of it and it can be a really nice sounding instrument.

Love the sweet simplicity of this.

Can't for the life of me see how a banjo could ever have had anything to do with it . . !

Thanks Lena,
I have been real busy other than the past weekend so I haven't been contributing much of anything lately, but I am working on the tempo and trying to get it to flow, but I think it will come together.

Hello everyone,

We just spent the weekend at the Bighorn Mountain festival and had a wonderful time. Played guitar with others and listened to some great music for three days. I was visiting a banjo playing friend and I was listening to him and another fella noodlin around.
Some lyrics jumped into my head so I finished the song today. Just a simple song and greetings from Wyoming

The Sun Shines

1st Verse

(G) The Sun shines when she comes around
The (C) Sun shines when she comes my (G) way
She'll chase gray skies and my blues(Em) away
(G)Hope she's comin (D) round (G) today,

2nd verse
She's the star that shines the brightest
She'll make everything okay
And light the way, in the darkest hour
Hope she's comin round today

Chorus;

Oh the sun shines when she comes around
The sun shines when she comes my way
The sun shines when she comes around
Hope she's comin round today

3rd verse

As I awoke, I missed you dearly
I dreamt we were in paradise
but your not here, and I'm so lonesome
I wanna lay my head down and cry.

Chorus X2

Heya Butch,

I just sent Mkm's boys some blues backing tracks. She had said she was buying her boys some electric guitars for xmas so I sent her some tracks and tips on getting started jammin. The backing tracks are bass and drums and rhythm but have no vocals or lead guitar. They included Mustang Sally, Stormy Monday, Redhouse , Summertime, and a few more of my favorites.

Had a great 4th thanks Lena,

Lizzie and I went for a drive and sightseeing , we went from Gillette to Buffalo Wy, then over the mountain to Ten Sleep and ended up in Cody and spent the night. Cody had a great craft fair and 4th celebration. We then headed home and took an alternate route through Red Lodge Mont. and on to Billings , Sheridan and back to Gillette.

Here's a pic of Bearcreek Coal Mine, in 1943 74 men died in an explosion and the mine never reopened. Near Red Lodge Mt.

Ok,

I think I will have to email you my results, it has four repeating progressions of  G  C  G  EM  D  G for each verse. The chorus has a G C G EM C G EM D G progression.

Heya Dale,

I will try and help you out with this later this evening, the clip that Tops added is in Bb and he is playing capoed at the third fret and is using a G shaped progression and I believe  Aseumus is right with the chords used. I will try and get it broke down later.

I recently have tried the New Martin acoustic SP phosphor bronze. I have been using these for a while now and are my favorites and now with the new Light/Medium .0125-.055 I really like them. There isn't much difference in the feel from the .012-054 but the volume and clarity is really nice. I really like the extra volume this time of year with the outdoor activities. When played with a thumbpick it almost sounds amplified smile

I think Martin strings sound best on Solid wood guitars, Elixirs are my choice on laminates.

MKM some of my friends brag about their exotic coffee's and I always seem to come back to Folger's Black silk, they laugh and think I am a nerd smile

Right on Zurf,

Some metronomes have a tap tempo and instead of tapping your foot you can tap your finger on the tap button as you are listening to the song and it will tell you the tempo in BPM beats per minute and then set your metronome to the BPM and you have a good start.

I have pretty much just used channel 1,

No you won't wet your pants but you may lose control and go into a 20 minute solo that includes some nasty guitar faces and some uncontrolled spastic like spasms smile

Hello.
When you  practice alot you will find it easy to find the key of the backing tracks. If you move your scale up and down the fret board you will find the spot where all the notes sound good and you have found the key. The backing tracks I sent you should have the key before or after the title. They will say for instance the Mustang Sally track, mustang120c  this means 120 beats per minute which is the tempo and the C after the 120 is the key. You can use a minor pentatonic scale for all the various tracks just move it up or down the fret board for the key.

Have fun jammin smile

We have a friend in a similar situation and we will gladly send prayers and good vibes your way

Good for you Amy !

I know how you feel my little girl was in gymnastics and was on the showteam. When she was about three or four she had to stand on her head center court while the other older girls performed a routine at halftime of the highschool basketball game. She was on her head a long time and when it ended her coach had to go out and tell her to come down. The crowd roared and her mother couldn't get the smile of her face and the tears were flowing with joy smile

Most of the Townes songs that I am familiar with he is using a thumbpick, with a alternating bass and he uses his pinky alot for the melody. Alot of his songs I work on the melody by ear and work them out. I am currently working on " Nothin"  and it like alot of his songs is not to difficult to pick but the timing has to be right for the little riffs he throws in.

Just thought I would share this. A few months ago I went to visit my daughter and we were driving around town and she started the CD player in my pickup and I had a Disc in it that I had recorded and wanted to see how it sounded in my cars stereo. I had forgot it was in there. There was just one song on the cd but she said can I have it. I said sure and never thought about it again.

This weekend my wife Lizzie went to visit her and they went shopping. Maria turned on her CD player and on come Dad playing
"Ride On" and my daughter was singing along and knew every word . Her mother thought it was so cool smile Maria called me later and said please send a CD with about 12 songs on it.

Maria's 21 yrs old now and is really a neat kid. She is a music junky and loves all kinds of music. When she was a fifth grader her science teacher had music trivia questions nearly everyday. The other kids were so frustrated when Maria would usually know the answers.

Music is the single best thing to break down barriers and bridge generation gaps, share your music with your kids smile

Well,
I just finished a 21 day project in the outback of Wyoming . Didn't have much time to play and stayed on location 24,7. I'm back home and today I will play for a few hours and think of my Dad. Gonna play some of his favorites and I know if he were here he would be so proud and would join in and we would have a great time jammin.

Dad's are the Best

Nice Roger !

Don't cut a hole in the side there are a lot of very good pickups that just require drilling out the end pin. I have a B-band that has a preamp and all it takes is drilling out the end pin. I also have a LR Baggs that I installed that doesn't have a pre-amp and it works great also. There are a lot of great acoustic pickups that don't require altering the guitar. Most are very easy to install.

I own a Hotrod Deluxe also and it is so cool. I also use it with my Yairi WYSB-1 acoustic at times and set where it just starts breaking up it will almost make you wet your pants smile

Very Nice Lena,

"The Dutchman falls asleep and Margaret blows the candle out"

Another open E song that is fun that I have been playing recently  4 & 20  by Stephen Stills. Not to hard to play but sounds so cool smile  to my ears anyway !

E E E E B E     To tune to this the E and B Strings remain the same. Tune the A string and G String down to E and the D String is the only one that is tuned up a step. So just three strings to change and a really cool sound for a change.
