Also a possessor of 5 guitars. They're purposely different (6-string, 12-string, classical, electric, and bass) so I can sleep okay. I just sing to myself in soft tones of self-justification, and all is well. tongue

The now-defunct "Wyse Owl Beverage Room" in Dartmouth, NS was never the same after Dutch hit it big. Good tune, Badeye!

Great feedback (as always) guys ... many thanks! I'm hoping to try out a Yamaha A3R this coming weekend, which is an all-solid spruce/rosewood.

http://ca.yamaha.com/en/products/musica … uct_lineup

My Larrivee doesn't have any electronics, and as much as I love it, this is a limitation. As Zurf points out, it has lots of low-end and volume, but too boomy to mic properly as I've discovered. We'll see what the Yamaha sounds like.

Thanks again!

No harm done, Phill. Beamer and I have spoke by email, and we're all on the same page.

I expect we're all agreed that an all-solid-wood guitar delivers better tone than ones made of laminates. That said, the two primary tonewoods for the sides and back of a guitar are either of Rosewood or Mahogany. My Larrivee and LaPatrie are solid mahogany back and sides, but I find it a bit "boomy" compared to rosewood ones I've tried. Mahogany makes for a big voice, lots of low end, etc., but I'm wondering how and why rosewood has such a different sound? Are there certain musical styles which would create a preference?

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

Perhaps Chordie is a forum best left for music, and not the comparing / bashing of issues of faith and belief. These matters are intensely personal and meaningful to each person, and stating one side can inevitably be taken as a challenge to someone holding a different view.

Just saying ... to be truly respectful.

The problem with the "B" chord (personally) is the narrow standard width of most guitar necks. I play it, but it's much easier on the classical or the 12-string because of the 2" nut. Whoever decided that the typical 1 11/16" or 42mm nut was "right"? It's all their fault! (LOL)

Sounds awesome, Russell ... and great playing also!

I've tried both the C9 and B9 and am saving coin for the B9. I just have to have that Cathedral pipe organ sound. Being a prog rock & classical fan, there's a whole pipe organ repertoire I love. I'm currently using the Slow Burn setting on my Boss ME-80 for that stuff, along with lots of Chorus and Reverb ... but the pipe organ will be amazing.

Where do you have it set up in your signal path? I'm currently running Guitar >>> ME80 >>> Amp Input, and was thinking of hooking the B9 through the separate Effects Loop. However, the Electro-Harmonix website says that using an amp's Effects Loop will compromise the B9's performance. What's your advice?

Thanks for the delicious appetizer!

What a gorgeous spot, Amy ... breath-taking! If I was to come, I'd have to leave the guitar home to leave room for fishing tackle! (LOL). Seriously, as much as I'd like to attend, commitments at home / work seldom allow such things.

Five stars, Badeye!

A local ski resort owner (Martock) once told me that successive storms actually overload them with snow. I guess it's crazy trying to keep up with the grooming when it keeps coming in waves like it has. You in the Valley this week?

Rush   "Freewill"    Toronto, 2003

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhcM_hx0zxw

The "Toronto Rocks" concert was a massive benefit staged in 2003, following the outbreak of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in Canada that year. A massive mobilization of dedicated health-care workers helped to contain the virus, which was eventually subdued by the end of the year. It is estimated that 450,000 - 500,000 people attended this one-day concert at Downsview Park, making it the largest ever on Canadian soil, and one of the largest ticketed events in world history. By comparison, Woodstock had approx. 400,000 people over 3 days.

Accounts vary, but apparently Rush were a last-minute addition, due to a snub or an oversight. With Toronto being their home city, the crowd appreciated them regardless of what the organizers had been thinking. A number of performers were featured throughout the day, concluding with a 90-minute set by the Rolling Stones. Justin Timberlake received a lot of hostility from the crowd, and was subjected to repeated booing and projectiles (water bottles, candy bars, toilet paper, etc.) throughout his set. Tough crowd!

Been a Steve Howe fan since my mid-teens, Strummerboy. I haven't successfully learned how to play a single piece of his repertoire from start to finish either! He's now 67 years old, and understandably has lost some finger speed. Here's a great shot of his using 3 guitars at once:

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/wygdzRPsJa0/maxresdefault.jpg

He's using his Gibson ES-339 here, probably because the thicker 175 would make to far to reach to the acoustic.

Steve Howe is the first guitarist I can recall using guitar stands while performing. On the original YESSONGS film (early 70's) he would typically have his Gibson ES-175 strapped on him, and his guitar guy would insert 6 or 12-string acoustics on stands when the song called for it, or his sitar. During "And You and I", he uses his Fender slide, an acoustic in a stand, and his 175.

I always wished Jimmy Page would have used one while performing. Songs like "Over the Hills and Far Away" don't sound as good when the acoustic parts are played on an electric.

Great research, Doug!

I just love info about the guitar greats, and the instruments they loved. The 6122 was often used by George Harrison, Pete Townsend, and Bo Diddley, to name but a few. Here's a great pic of Country Gentleman Chet with his Country Gentleman Gretsch:

A hard one to answer ...

Having a PRS on your wish list is a great call, and the Custom 24 is a gorgeous looking AND sounding guitar.

I must say how pleased I am with my Larrivee acoustic. With their production split between Canada & the USA, they're building very nice sounding all-solid-wood guitars at decent prices. When I got my D-03 a few years ago, I just had to strum it once to know that it was "the one".

Two well matched teams, and a great game to watch. That one Seahawk's passing play at the end will be analyzed by the media for weeks (snooze).
