So, the hubby gave me a wad of cash and sent me off Guitar Shopping yesterday for Mother's Day.  I have diamonds, but only one guitar so of course I chose new guitar!  LOL!  I went to the store that carries a bunch of used guitars and was sadly disappointed.  Then I went to another that carries mostly new.  Amazing... I tried guitars in the $100-$400 range and ended up choosing a cheaper priced one because I liked the action and sound of it the best.  I can't believe some of the guitars and brands I passed over.  I tried it last, set it aside and went back through all the more expensive guitars again just to make sure.  Of course when I got home I had to read reviews online and sure enough others agree that this guitar just has an amazing sound comparable to the higher priced models.  It appears there's a few lemons out there, but I made sure to take the one off the wall and not chance some lemon in a box.  It's not a solid top, but it's the right guitar for me at the moment.  I figure, by the time something goes wrong with this, for the price paid, I'll be in good graces with the hubster to look for a new one again!  Maybe next time I'll be able to touch a few hanging on the wall in the "expensive room" big_smile

So... I now am the proud owner of an Epiphone PR-150 ... yes, the purty one with the vintage sunburst coloring.

It has a nice deep bass and the trebles aren't too tinny... yet it's crisp like a steel string should be.  I will probably try out some Martin lights on it.

Here's a pic from Musician's Friend

I was highly considering an acoustic electric, but the sound of it unplugged didn't come close to the sound of this.  I don't really need one, I play mostly just around the house and such, if I ever need to be plugged in I can just mic it or add a pickup later on (our anniversary is in September so I guess a pickup would be a good choice then!  LOL).

Hey guys... I've thought about this a LOT over the course of my time on Chordie.  I've done it before with my own website and it's easy and tricky at the same time.  The biggest issue of course would be having a moderator on at all times.  There's actually quite a bit of moderating that's done which the general membership doesn't always see.  With Chordie being an "open membership", anyone can become a member by providing an email address, ANYONE at any time.  I can go more indepth into my opinions on how the whole moderation and moderators monitoring everyone including each other works.  But suffice it to say, it would be tricky to keep the level of "family friendly" that we all appreciate here if a chat room were opened.  That is of course JUST MY OPINION... and final say is by Per.  Then there's the issue of bandwith to support a chat room within Chordie.  You only get so much with a paid hosting plan and being a FREE site for us... I have no clue if the current site could support it or if Per would have to spend more money just to make it happen.  300,000 members is a LOT of possible people on at once and there's OFTEN 75 registered users on at a time that could potentially be in chat.

I like chat... but whenever there's a chat room, message boards tend to get used less.  That would mean there'd be less "free information" for those looking on the boards for help.  You can always search on forum posts to find answers to questions, you can't search on chat discussions.

Like Doug said, if there was enough interest... we could ask Per.

Soooooo anyhow... that's my opinion on the subject based on my personal experiences.  I'm sorry, I wish it was easier to institute a chat room because I for one would use it constantly!  LOL!

As for GoogleTalk... I have it on my cell, so I think I'm always signed into it.  So, if anyone wants to chat with me... it's mekidsmom (of course @gmail.com).  smile  I like googletalk.  I can use it on the computer like an IM program, or I can use it on my cell phone just like text messaging!

Mothers day must be difficult for you Jeff, your mom sounded like a great woman!

I will say "thanks for the good wishes" and offer mine up for the other chordie moms too! I had a great day with my mom today and my kids. Church, breakfast, a new guitar, upgraded moms computer and cleaned her dryer... came home to chicken marsala! It was snowing here all day, but it didn't make the day any less wonderful. smile

Roger, my sincere condolences to you and your family.  16 years is a hefty amount of time for a broken heart to last... clearly she was a strong woman and finished what needed to be while on this Earth.  Not sure if everyone else around the world celebrates Mother's Day as we do here in the US today...  My heart aches for you and others that don't have their mom with them to hug today.  My deepest sympathies.

Click on the "My Songbook" tab ... then at the bottom of your list of songs is a button to "view/print songbook" or "generate iPod notes".   If you don't have an iPod (or want the files on your computer) you can view/print and copy/paste to a word file in your computer or whatever else you want to save to.  generate iPod notes will allow you to download the songbook to your iPod and the directions are on the screen after you click the button.

BTW... Welcome to the Chordie Forum!

Thank you very much for your input guys!  I have a feeling that once I pick these up, I'll find that the resonator is going to be too big for me anyhow.  Being so used to my 3/4 classical and nylon strings I may have a hard time adjusting to the body, sound, and action on it as well.  I know I've got a way to go before I come close to being able to pick REALLY WELL so your 2 cents Wayne and Geo are very well taken!

Pix... yep that's it!  The picture looks the same as theirs (although yours looks more loved).  They have it spelled out Takamine Taka Mini and have miscatagorized it online into their "solid body electric guitars".  I did pick up an Ibanez Parlor sized A/E at one point and really loved the feel of the size, action, etc... so maybe the Takamine will be just what the doctor ordered.  I guess it's time to find a babysitter and go sit and play at the store for a bit!

Jeff - That's a mighty purty guitar... take good care of her!

Good to know that Takamine is considered a good brand, even their lower end models... the fact that you guys have the brand tells me that it's absolutely worth considering a little more than I had before.

whoops, should have put this in the guitars/accessories forum... sad Sorry!

Ha ha Pete... I don't know about both, and maybe not even either of them.  I might get there and hate them both!  big_smile  I can be finicky like that.

I look at pictures of those resonators all the time and have been eyeballing this one on their site of used gear for a while.  All the used gear is on sale this weekend sooo.... thought maybe someone would have an opinion on these.  I looked through the forums and see a few of the guys on here have resonators but I can't find out much about this brand online on my own sad

They also have a Takamini for $100 ... I think that is an electro/acoustic.  I know I need to go try these out before considering further, just wondering what anyone thinks or has experience with.  Thanks!

Anyone have any experience or opinions on this brand and style guitar?

I know that a slide is far above my ability at the moment, but I'm interested in a steel string, I love the sounds of country/blues and well, they're pretty gosh darn neat looking.  On top of that, there's a used one near me in "excellent condition" says the guitar shop for $125 ... and well... it's Mother's Day weekend and my hubby usually grabs me some diamond earrings, I think I'd rather get a new guitar!  smile

Yuppers... I second what Zurf said.  Beats in a measure = time = math.  Study the circle of fifths and you will see tons more math.  Apparently  if you listen to enough Bach you might even get smart (they actually sell music to have children listen to supposedly to increase their intelligence just by listening).  All of this, my friend, is why I don't like music theory so much ... LOL ... I don't like math.

Ha ha ha!  That was sooo good!

Oh yeah... my hubby's amp has an "insane" setting.  Literally, that is what the setting is called.  It doesn't matter WHAT you play, it all sounds the same.  Very "death metal" sound.  When I'm feeling a little silly, I'll play something beautiful on that setting just for the hay of it.  It gives me a good laugh!  Have fun!

Codavids34... I too really like this.  I saw it yesterday but forgot to post on it.  I can see the words to this going into some heavy metal ballad type of song.  Deep... and so true.

Butch... some of the big brand amp websites (like Line 6) have suggestions on how to set those knobs and switches to make your guitar/amp set up sound "just like" your favorite songs.  I was really flabbergasted by all the knobs and such when my hubby and son got their electrics.  No matter what I do when I pick theirs up, I inevitably mess with the settings until it ends up sounding much like an acousitc... so I know I don't need an electric.  LOL!  Have fun!

Welcome to the forum eammat and Revswitchblade!

eammat, it sounds like you're maybe having a problem organizing yourself?  Perhaps you need to set yourself up with a little schedule.  Practice chord changes, strumming patterns, scales, etc...  figure out how much time you will have in one setting and divide it up.  Set yourself a timer... practice one thing, when the timer rings move on to the next thing.  You can practice your scales and lead on the acoustic... I'd say if you only have an hour at a time then maybe you should stick to the acoustic one night and set more time for chord changes and strumming patterns and scales that night.  Another night practice just on the electric and set a little less time for your strumming and more time for your scales and lead practice.  Get yourself a metronome (or use a free online one) and use the heck out of that thing!  Good luck!  Every time I start getting stuck on a song and that's ALL I'm doing when my guitar comes out, I step back a minute and go back to good ole fashioned "practice".  It makes a huge difference!

Still considering that one huh Jerome?  I still say go for it... but no, not when your thinking is impaired.  That's something you need drawn up and tweaked to your liking before putting on your body forever.  I thought of you and that tattoo the other day when this whole thing came up.  I look up ideas for the circle of fifths tattoo from time to time, although I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to be putting that on me.  You should check out some that are online that have been done!

Selso, where is that image on your avatar from?  That would make a pretty nice small black and grey... or even as a solid black tribal piece.  No camera?  Awe... I was hoping to come back on here and see a ton of pics!  LOL... oh well.

Selso... running out of space and NO music related tattoos yet?  OH NO!  That's just not right.  Maybe there's room somewhere for just a little quarter note?  big_smile If you ever feel like sharing pics of your favorites, I'd love to see some of those cool tats myself!
