Hi DP and welcome to Chordie,

I have had a listen to this song for you and I was particularly impressed with this version of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MDlMdu2 … re=related

The song is 3/4 but if you are listening to the Leonard Cohen version I heard it had a fingerpicked guitar lead and that may just throw you for strumming to.

I have looked at that before and to me it has been put up by someone wanting to make money out of the Clapton name. He may well know about it, and take a percentage, but I do not believe that Eric would actively control that site.

OK this is side tracking a little, but do you really think that the Eric Clapton would have a MySpace site? I have seen his name and others famous stars as friends and looked at their sites. I honestly believe that they are false, just shrine sites put up by fans.

But I have been known to be wrong.

Go back to the 50's, 60's and the 70's and there are a whole bundle of 3 chord songs, a few are:

Catch The Wind - Donovan
Do You Want To Dance - Cliff Richard
Home On The Range - Traditional
Michael Row the Boat Ashore -Peter, Paul and Mary
Rave On - Buddy Holly
When You Say Nothing At All - Ronan Keating
Working Man - Rita MacNeil

Then there are Christmas Carols:

Good King Wenceslas
Jingle Bells
Once In Royal David's City
Silent Night

Hi Vickie and welcome to Chordie,

Probably the easiest way is to look at the 'Public songbooks' under 'Absolute Beginners' and you should find the easier ones there.

I certainly find writing music easier than the lyrics so I will put my name down here.

It is late Luciano Pavorotti but I cannot remember him singing any "do wah diddy diddy dum dums" lol and although opera is not my thing he certainly had a wonderful voice.

I am also willing to offer my service with vocals. G being my usual key.

Hi Spartan and welcome to Chordie,

The short answer is no I'm afraid. Please read the 'Sticky' at the start of this section for the reasons why.

Hi 06sc500,

You will need software to record and mix with. Audacity have a very good, and free, one which is simple to use. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ to down load it. Russ also has put several tutorials to help you get to grips with it: http://www.mediafire.com/russellharding

If your guitar has an electric pick up you will need a lead to connect it to your PC and an adaptor to reduce the jack plug size.

You will need a microphone for your vocals (and guitar if it has no electrics). It is advisable to get the best you can afford as with a mic the better the quality the better the audio.

When recording it is always best to record the music first. You can record one or more tracks of guitar, pan and balance before adding the vocals, again you can add extra vocal tracks for harmonies, ooh and aahs before making a final mix and saving as an mp3 for upload.

There are several posts in this section with more detailed help on recording too. Her is one I put up a little while ago: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9253

That is it in brief for more help see the tutorials and ask questions here.

Hi Uncle G and welcome to Chordie,

I am pleased you found Chordie. Apart from all the songs, there is this Forum, which is a friendly place where you can ask for help or offer advice, as the case may be. Or perhaps have a less serious gossip in the 'Chat corner'.

Enjoy your guitar and enjoy Chordie.

Hey Daddycool,

Well done, you got the hang of Chopro. I went and set my cursor to the start of each out of place lines and pressed the return button to get it right (I have done this to other of your posts that are not in Chopro in the past too).

I have not time to give her a whirl now but I will do later.

Hi Rick and welcome to Chordie,

As Kenny has already said if you record your songs you can show the melody and the mood of your songs without writing out the music, in fact a recording will put it over better than it being written on a scoresheet.

As you realise that you have a medical condition that you are trying to overcome and rebuild your life speaks volumes. I take my hat off to you and wish you well. I hope that in the not too distant future I will be able to read and listen to some of your songs.

Hi Kenny,

You have definitely got the recording bug now it seems. A good recording again and a sad and poignant song which I hope your son has heard, though on re-reading your last post, maybe not, but in time perhaps.

I do not know your situation but time heals and there is a chance if he hears this it will some way towards mending the rift.

Well done,

I am in love with my Fender JG-26SCE NAT electro/acoustic, the action and tone are fantastic, the in-built tuner and electrics work great too, however I have tried a few 70's and 80's built ones that were absolute rubbish.

My Fender is a standard sized guitar.

If the guitar you found is the right price and it suits you (the action feels good, it is comfortable to play and the tone is good) then I would suggest you go for it.

I have just measured my two guitars for you.

My standard Fender 6 string acoustic is 101.5cm from top of headstock to the base of the body, my jumbo 12er is 108cm but this has a longer headstock. The measurements fron the botton of the body to the nut is probably a more acccurate at 84cm and 86cm respectively.

I hope this helps.

Hi Lieven,

Do not plug into your USB port as configuration may be a problem. Use a jack plug into the microphone or line-input port of your soundcard.

The two phono plugs go to your BOSS BR 600.

This link takes you to picture of the lead you will need: http://www.cybermarket.co.uk/ishop/923/shopscr381.html

Hi James,

I am glad I just read your post as I just played it through and it took be just under 10 minutes I was thinking perhaps I was too slow and easy but, in view of your message, perhaps not.

I enjoyed playing it, a very easy one to get to grips with, thanks.

Hi Rachael,

I can answer this one as I had the same when I started using Audacity. I think it can be one of two things

Click on 'Edit', click on 'Preferences', then click on 'Audi I/O'.
Make sure that the box marked 'Play other tracks........' is ticked
Make sure that the box marked 'Software playthrough..' is NOT ticked.
Then you will only record the track you are recording without the other tracks being recorded as well.

If however it is your microphone that is picking up the the audio from your speakers the you will have to use headphones to listen to your previous recordings and switch the speakers off.

Personally I always use headphones when recording as you can hear so much better through them.
