Do you not think that a gay songwriter would actually write a song about a woman because that's where he's gonna direct the marketing.

A Boy Named Sue?

Most of the songs I hear from gay songwriters could be for a woman... or a man.  I agree crevs... I just had to try to find the loophole.

I don't remember all the words to "A Boy Named Sue"... but I think maybe YOU have found the loophole song!  smile

A song that's probably NOT about women... "Don't let the sun go down on me" ... Elton John and George Michael (who I adore both... I think they're excellent singers)... both gay.  I've got to believe if you put two gay men together for a duet, they aren't singing about a woman.  big_smile

Killing me Softly - I've been working on for a while... I can't quite get it to where I'm happy enough yet (and it's the easiest to switch cords on of these three)

My mom loved this song, but the tempo always drove me nuts.  I'll bet you do a better job of it than Roberta Flack.

Thanks Zurf.  I learned it as a kid, so the version that's in my head is the way my Dad played it.  There are a LOT of songs like that!  I never heard originals until after I knew the song well from my Dad's perspective.  LOL!  I've tried playing it with a little slap strum, some palm muting, just finger picking, straight strumming, everything... but I'm not happy with it yet.  Still work on it a little here and there smile

Now I'm working on:
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
You were meant for me - Jewel
Bubbly - Colby Caillat

But all the others I've picked up at some point are still there when my brain starts to hurt... that Jewel song isn't too tricky, but try singing with feeling while picking it out.  Whew!

Welcome to the forum Tigerbilly.  This song is already in the chordie search under the Mamas and the Papas here:  http://chordie.com/chord.pere/www.guita … 72254.html

By the way, you will have more luck (and a faster response from members) next time looking for a song if you post in the "Song Requests" forum.  smile  Have a great day!

Wayne, I am seriously looking into the bone saddle.  I'm in no rush, but absolutely looking.  I wonder what it would do for my classical too?  Be design, they don't have a ton of sustain... but would it make my classical not sound so mellow?  I think most of my finger picking will be done on that still (at least until I get much more used to those steel strings).  So I wonder.  Thank you for the hint about online shopping and pricing of strings!  I'll be sure to keep that in mind when looking at the dollar signs!  smile

Toots... every time you give me a personal message on the forums, I just want to reach out and give you a big ole hug!  You're so sweet and kind.  Thank you!

Rogerjamtill ... I don't blame you a bit for stopping along the roadside to try out your new guitar!  I hope yours is a happy new guitar day on Monday!

Here's a link to a youtube video I found of the song:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaGP98jIrZE
Seems this song is listed all over the internet, but I haven't had any luck finding chords or tabs yet.  I'll keep looking as I find time.  When you come back, let us know if you're still looking for it!  smile  Good luck!

WOW marcalan!  That is something for sure!  I can't imagine being alone for 7 months, forget about being alone sailing the world and only 16 years old.  Amazing

I've just been looking into this as I was thinking of messing with my saddle on my new guitar anyhow to lower the action.  WOW... looks like a touch of work that'd be well worth it.  Did you know, they make bone, ivory, and walrus picks too???

Thanks guys!

Tony, I plan to lower the action just a touch and change the strings.  I'm either thinking something like the Elixer's or Martin lights.  I've read online that others with this guitar did just that and happily compare it to their more expensive Martins.  As for Jewel - I will admit she is a beautiful woman!  Take a minute sometime to look up how the song "You were meant for me" was written.  It's a very funny story.  That's the one I'm working on btw.

Thanks Crevs and jcellini!  My husband finally got his hands on my guitar the other night.  He really loved the sound of it too and had a hard time putting it down.  For ONCE I wasn't upset, because I had my Ibanez on standby!  It's nice to have two guitars!  smile

Oops... I've been watching the thread and hadn't realized that I didn't post yet!  Sorry Jim!  sad

I can't quite get the rhythm of the song just from reading it.  There's a lot of songs that I've printed out which I KNOW and have to remind myself how they go when I see them on paper.  I guess I need to hear it to really be able to comment as far as that goes.  I do really like the lyrics.  The story that goes with it is really neat.  How you could turn a little conversation like that into full lyrics is beyond me.  I've come up with a few ideas here and there, but rarely am quite able to get much further than a couple lines on my own.  I think you've got a good knack Jim!  Let us know when you have a chance to record it somehow so we can get a better grip on "how it goes"!  smile

Ha ha... no, not taken as an advertisement at all smile  I was just curious.  I'd say with those prices you've got some pretty lucky friends!

Very cool Pix!  I really like the idea of a sound port.  While I was shopping recently, I came across a used guitar that ONLY had a sound hole in the side - right where your port is - and none on the front of the guitar at all.  I can see the use of the port, not so much a sound hole in that location however.

Soooo... just out of curiosity, how much would you charge someone for something like that?  You don't have to answer here if you'd rather not publicly... but I'm curious nonetheless!  It's a specialized craft you have, and it sure sounds like you're good at it!

Thanks for the help Pix... it looked like C's and G's to me, but I wasn't sure about the rest and didn't want to mess anyone up with my guesses!  LOL!  I'm still not too good at knowing what someone's playing by ear, watching someone's fingers only gives me a decent guess.

I really like it... I can tell it's going to have a nice kick to it just by reading the words.  Can't wait to hear it recorded!  smile

NELA I deleted your duplicate post (an accident I'm sure) and Riddler I deleted your "." post (wow what happened there boys?  LOL)

I guess the consensus is, if everyone wants to get together to chat it up - the best thing to do is contact via email, or look at the person's profile and contact them via the instant message program that's their favorite - off the chordie site.  I agree that a chat room would be nice on the site (or even a shout box), but I just think they would have to be monitored so strongly that it probably won't happen.  If anyone wants to attempt to contact Per and ask for it - go for it.  I'm sure he'd at least consider something if he had enough requests, like Doug said.

In the mean time, I think it's fair if anyone wants to set something up... maybe an unofficial Chordie online chat meet up, you could say, "If anyone's interested, meet me at 7PM EST on Google Talk and we'll all chat together" - you could do that.  I don't think there's anything wrong with inviting others to meet off site, it's been done before in person.

btw - I won't be on google chat tonight at 7PM EST ... LOL!  But if someone set the time up, I'd love to "get together" online to chat if the timing fit my personal schedule.  I have yahoo, aim, and googleTalk.

Beautiful Roger.  I'll bet that was one of your Mom's favorites.  I know it puts a huge wonderful feeling inside when my kids play along with me (even if it's just the 5 year old banging on her guitar with no real sense of music).  I'm sure your mom was proud to call herself Mother to you and your siblings!  Bless you.

Safe travels Roger... I hope you have a small guitar you can bring along with you - or someone's there you can borrow during your down time.  I can't imagine a better friend to bring along for support when all the hubub subsides in the evenings.

I am no good at figuring them out either... maybe someone that is will chime in here.  In the mean time, maybe you can figure out by watching this guy what cords he's playing?  It's an idea!  smile

I agree... it would make for a cool tattoo.  A nice fine single needle for the fretboard, and then  that big ole fat red hatch across the whole thing!  The only problem is that you'd have to show us if you ever got it done!  big_smile ha ha!

Selso, you do tattoos too?  Well my, why didn't you say so before?  Website with pictures???

Roger - I am working on a song that he wants me to sing.  He's always wanted me to do Jewel songs at karaokie (I say he's secretly in lust with her LOL), so he asked me to learn a song or two of hers.  No serenade yet, but it's getting close.  Absolutely he got a few kisses and cuddles!  smile Being a full sized dread (not 3/4 like my classical), he can't wait to get his hands on the guitar too!

zguitar - Yep, it took a bit but I've finally got him trained in the gifting department!  LOL!  Actually, in the past few years I think he's realizing how much I actually do as a mom without pay.  Putting my dreams of career aside for the kids and for him to follow his.  He also has always known that music is something that drives me and seeing me finally making time to really enjoy it, he wants to encourage me.  That all sounds really CORNY, but it's the truth.

I will admit, I wasn't always this spoiled... for the first 5 years or so, I'd just get a card and dirty dishes.

I do need a new car.... mine has 150K on it... hmmm.... big_smile big_smile

"Zurf has "Barred" the B chord... "

These are my favorites!  big_smile  Although, I have to admit that I like them all!  I have been spring cleaning the girls' bedroom all day... I needed a good laugh big_smile  Thank you!

Zurf, I think you could officially add a few more lines to your signature after all this today.

Thanks guys!  Geo... yes, these poor little fingers need to get toughened up a bit more.  Those nylon strings have treated me well over these months of playing!  Badeye - I am thinking that it's time to name them both now.  It used to just be "my guitar" ... now it's "my classical" or "my dread" and somehow that just doesn't seem right anymore.  I'm sure something will come to me soon!

Geo & Selso - do you have this model?  I know I looked through the forums and remember hearing a few had this or suggested it, as a good low priced guitar.

I still can't get over the excellent names and $350 guitars I passed up for this one.  I feel like it's "too good to be true".  Same thing happened when I bought my classical (well, I passed up a few that were $50-$75 more).  So far however, I LOVE IT!
