Zoom R16 or R24 for just audio input (and good second hand prices), Zoom LiveTrak L-8 if you need to send to an amp (or need new).

Oh, forgot to add - I thought I'd miss a CD/DVD player on my Mac, but we bought a USB based one, which we share among the family - I was surprised at how often it just sits on the shelf these days, as most items (software/videos/etc) are downloadable. The times I do use it are for ripping rare CD's from Perth bands ...

Thanks to Doug and Richard. I already have a laptop but find they have a tendancy to let me down at the worst possible time, I used to use it for stage work! I think I've decided on a tower PC as I want a dvd drive. Amazon have pages of reconditioned PCs at attractive prices and win11 installed so I may go that way. Any further advice will be welcome like how to get my stuff from old to new PC?

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a laptop, but sounds like you've already jumped on the right track ...

I'm more Mac orientted these days, and haven't done a Windows user swap over for a few years - I'll let others advise on that, as the old way was to re-install everything from scratch (don't know if that's changed?).

Richard my son lives in a Perth suburb...he says it's really hot at the moment. He's tone deaf so he doesn't follow me...lol

Yer, we've had lots of days in the high 30's (centigrade), but haven't cracked any 40 days yet ... it's cooler at the moment, but apparently getting hotter next week, which is unusual for mid-March!

Unless you have a requirement to be tied to a desk, I'd recommend a laptop over either. I've successfully run 8 audio tracks into a 2015 MacBook with 16Gb of memory, with the convenience of being able to move that (almost) anywhere. Considering it's an older Inter i7 CPU, it keeps up with most daily tasks I throw at it, including video processing, gaming, and graphic design. Anything newer will be a bonus and will probably meet your requirements. Expanding on what Doug said above, you may want something with expand-ability, including memory, SSD and GPU, but it also depends on your use case and desire for future requirements. Most PC's are sold these days with an expected lifespan of 2 to 3 years, as that's when manufacturers will hope you will upgrade, but you'll get some good bargains if you look second hand for those aged computers, and will probably be sufficient from the details you gave here.

Of course, that all changes if you say you're editing 4K videos as part of your "day to day" stuff ...

Hey neophytte, I have never ever heard that song before, but I have to say, it was one of your best performances yet!  You nailed it vocally and instrumentally and you owned it.   Well done smile

Thanks! The original is a bit of a toe-tapper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCHdMIEGaaM

I performed this song Get Lucky in January this year at our acoustic club, although the original is pretty synth laden, it transfers across to acoustic guitar quite nicely, although I did rearrange some of it to suit better. Hope you enjoy:

Wow, that was terrific, some of the stand outs were the bass line and the horns - everything was mixed really nicely and had a good all round feel to the end product. Are you doing all this in the box, or with other musicians?

This one is a cover of a Greek song I did with The Cretan band Everdie it's called asimina sfika which means silver wasp .I hope this counts as an animal I'm on guitar ,the vids a bit dark but it was filmed in the rehearsal room and we'd had a few drinks  at this point. Enjoy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XpP_DGa3oLY

The song sounded good, but, as with all rehearsal videos, the sound kinda drifts in and out. I tried looking the words up on Google, but could only find another (live?) video of a different band playing the same song, which was unfortunately around the same quality.

That was a very appropriate song for this month neo, had lots of animals in it, so good choice of song.  Hey nice bit of reverb on this one by the sounds.  Looks like you perform at that place quite a lot.

Thanks for the compliment; yes, perform there monthly and I'm on the committee, so quite involved with them.

These are my entries both about animals and one has banana tree in it.  Rushed both to try and get an entry in this month as I didn't get time to enter the last 2 months in December or January.  To be honest, Yellow Bird, I should have changed the chords as a bit high for me.

Stray cats: I liked that shaker in the background, are you getting people to join you, or using a multi-tracker in some form to get some other instruments in there? When I was first listening to it, I thought I hadn't heard it, but as I got further in, it felt familiar, so maybe I have heard it before, but just didn't give it a lot of attention ... anyway, it was a nice rendition!!

Yellow bird: You are correct with the key being a bit high for your voice, you sounded a bit strained, but (mostly) covered that over effectively. This song sounded a bit more rushed than the stray cats one, but a good effort nonetheless!!

Hi Jim.  Your song is original, but appears to be written in Chordie

Songs written in the forums won't appear in Chordie; it is a search engine for songs on other sites. Chordie is to songs, what Goggle is to websites.

Chordie is to songs, what Google is to web pages; neither hold the information, they are an indexing system, if you know of a repository which is not indexed then you can mention it here and one of the admins will verify the site and add it to the indexer, or you can add songs to somewhere like Ultimate Guitar and they will show up here.

Hope that helps.

Nice cover of a good old song.  On a side note, the balance was good with vocals and guitar on this one, you got it just right.

Thank you for that; seems to be a pretty popular song too!!

Jandle wrote:

neophytte, great to see you performing with a fellow musician.  Great to hear an original song, Driving Rain too and you performed well together.  I liked the backup vocals you added to his song.

Also, your other song, swinging on a star an oldie but a goodie, I haven't heard that in a very long time.

Thanks, Alan and I have worked together off and on since we were in a band together in the 90's - here is a playlist of some of our songs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P … 7-npbcI-74
