keep'em coming
Jim
I don't know about Mojo, but I have played and sung with BGD and it was a blast. I can only imagine how much fun we'd have with Mojo and his pickles pitching in.
sounds like I good time but Texas is a long way from where you guys throw the chordae get togethers.i would love to sit down and play a few tunes with my chordae friends. maybe some one knows how to send a audacity file around by email it could be done that way maybe.
interesting as I never really thought about it my self until a few weeks ago. I had made my first CD with the song Zelie that I wrote for my newest granddaughter, and gave the wife and daughter for mothers day. every one loved it including my first grand daughter who is four. now here is where the problem comes in, the wife tells me you need to write a song for your other grand kids. well that would mean three more songs. and that is where the why I write question comes in, I don't why or where they come from.if I sit down with a specific subject in mind to write a song you can forget it. now a certain line or phrase pops in my head and I can relate it to something bingo the song just kind of materializes. so I guess my answer to the question why I write is I don't know. a perfect example is I think is what seems to be the favorite of everyone when they ask me to play one of my songs. oil field trash. that first line "staring at the bottom the bottom of an empty glass "sat in my note book for a longtime. I always had visions of a song about drinking to much coming out of that line.but one night sitting at work looking through my note book I read the line and the second line just kind of popped in my head and the rest just kind of wrote itself. sure it came from experience but I did not sit down with the intention of writing a song about the oil field life. which gets back to where this started the wife does not understand why I just don't sit down and write three more songs for the other grand kids. i suppose if I could do that I wouldn't be working in the oil field I might rich and famous song writer. ahh there is the answer I want to be rich and famous. there is probably a song in that somewhere. well now I am staring at the bottom of an empty glass so I will shut up now before I say something really stupid. as the others have said Peatle great conversation starter thanks for posting it

as promised here is a quick cover of a pirate looks at forty
well the timing on this post is coincidental. I flew out of Houston intercontinental air port ( sorry i am old school George H bush IAH now )on the fourth to go work and while I was checking in I noticed a guy standing off to the side and said to my self that is dusty hill from zz top. he disappeared before I could get my phone out and get a picture. well two hours later who is sitting two rows in front of me ? ZZ top. they had them in a special section in front of business class with a curtain closed once we were airborne so I never got the opportunity to get a picture and I am not the type to bug some one for an autograph but it was pretty cool sitting that close to a group I have listening to since I was a kid. I guess they have a persona to keep up never saw them the whole flight with out the cheap sun glasses on. they had their roadies with them they were in business class with the regular folks

I haven't picked up a guitar in over a week just got done putting away the guitars here at home getting ready to head to work tomorrow. Been a busy time at home this rotation hopefully when I get to work the urge to play will come back
what the heck throw my name in the hat
I am going to have to pass on this month songs didn't have the time to learn them.
keepitreal wrote:Hi T F. Sorry to pile my troubles on everyone but I been missing due to my partner developing a serious disease and eventually passing away. In fact for a few months I haven't even picked up a guitar. Anyway that's all behind me now and I hope to be back to normal a,s,a,p.
sorry to hear of your loss
I usually check in once a day to see what's going on, I just don't post much. I suppose I live by the old saying better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt
I had to think about this for a minute, I guess my top four if I had to play off the cuff in hurry would be copper head road, wish you were here, pirate looks at forty and oil field trash. I can play those even when I am hammered
I find most of my computer problems are located between the keyboard and the chair
sad news Bill, My condolences.
and I have mastered the art of retrieving them but I'm not telling how

after going back and listing to the original I think I like it better, the studio version is how I have been playing at get togethers . never really paid any attention to it until I listen to both versions. it just kind of evolved but I plan on trying to do like the original from now on
TIGLJK wrote:Mojo - This is great ! A masterpiece in fact. Lyrics are top notch... playing and singing is spot on !
Did you ever put the lyrics and chords on here ?
Superb song
Jim
thanks TIGLJK, yes it was posted back in October or November as I recall.

ok here is next one from the studio visit.
Jandle wrote:I really enjoyed both versions of your song Mojo ..... both had my attention, both were great listening. I think the studio one was more professional on the recording side and I think you played it without the capo on the 3rd fret? where as the original you played it with the capo on? I think the original was still good though as you have a natural talent anyway. Hard to choose between the two songs which i preferred as they were both good. I guess if it boiled down to it, the recorded version would be better listening on the radio for the sound quality but as I said tough choice as i like both versions.
I went back and listened to both and you are correct I did play it with a capo on the third fret on the first one, I some times forget to make notes on things like that and forget. now you have wondering what it would have sounded like in the studio on the third fret.
I must concur with the others that did turn out very good

well here is the first from my trip to the studio. curious to hear from every one opinions on the difference in the two recordings. Questions I ask myself, was it worth the time and money? ( yes ,if nothing else for the experience) should I go back and record more songs? ( jury still out on that one)I am heading off to work tomorrow and will post the other songs I recorded in a few days. looking forward to HONEST opinions and input.
Tenement Funster wrote:Sorry to hear about the annoyance, Bill ...
Do you use a tuner (to keep from tuning too high)? These little clip-on doo-hickies are cheap and work surprisingly well. It'll help you prevent over-tightening, if that's the main source of the breakage.
there Is a free app on the iPhone called guitar tuna that works pretty good to

sitting in a dark house with the power out playing around with the guitar and thinking about last weekends annual trip to the river with my old friends and well this is the result.
PS I picked up the CD I made today but realized I don't have a CD player on my lap top anymore so I am having the files emailed to me as soon as get them I post on sound cloud. until then have a listen to this one hope you like it
well I finally went into the recording studio this week for the first time . I go to pick up my CD tomorrow. it was an interesting experience. a couple of the songs I felt like I nailed them on the first try and a couple took a few tries and probably could have done better on but time and money, well I was ok with how they turned out.
as a side note I can now say I have recorded in the same studio as Willie Nelson and Chris Kristofferson it was pretty cool hearing from Dana the guy that owns the place telling the stories about Willie and Chris when they were recording there.
I will try to get them up on sound cloud in a few days
as for me I don't know if it is wrong or right but there are artist I will change the channel on and a few I make sure I don't spend a penny on there music, even though I may play one of their tunes on occasion. liking there music and giving them my money are two different things in my book any way

Here's my go at The Weight.
I was going to record Wish You Were Here last month but MOJO1 nailed it so well that I decided to let it slide.
I'm going to pass on Jack And Diane...can't fit any harp into it, so far.
good job on the weight, lol but that is a lame excuse for not doing wish you were here
