All the above ideas are solid. In your search don't exclude Alvarez. They make some pretty fine low end acoustics

Re: F barre chord (4 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I would always advise getting this done by someone who knows what they're doing. I'm sure your local guitar store will do a "set up" for you for a few dollars. If you explain how you want it set up they can do that all for you. Sure, it'll cost a few dollars but I'm sure you will be more than happy with the result.
I'm also sure that someone will give instruction on how to do this in subsequent posts here but, as I say, I'd always recommend getting it done by a pro.
You could also just remove 6 strings from the Alvrez...
+1 on above....have it set up by a luthier.

Wonderful langourous song, Geo. I take it you have more ?
I have quite a few but most are not nearly as finished as this. Or in the same style. This one is unique in that way. Thanks for giving it a listen.

Did you buy through Rondo Music? He's got the best return policy in the business so at least you're covered. He'll replace or refund with no problems.
Congrats on the new guitar. I've got an AL2500 I've had for a few years...great guitar

i see mccartney hopes that some people will get together and save the studio's, why cant he do it himself, better than give all his cash to heather mills.

I saw a report that's she's officially broke. She ripped through 50 million (US I think) and has nothing but "some" prpoerty to show for it.....
Maybe Ringo should buy it instead!

Thanks for taking the time to listen Phill. We had fun with that voice. I had to re-record the 2nd verse because it was making me laugh! Small things amuse small minds I guess!

Hey geoaguiar
Well done for taking the plunge.
Liked the laidback country feel and the singalong quality of the chorus quite catchy.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for listening!
This home recording thing is very addictive and the freedom to collaborate independently has been very fun.

just play it; you can always fix it later should you have the need. Sounds like the way you're doing it may help in transitioning to bar chords

Alright...been lurking here quite a while especially in songwriting and finally have the courage to put one up. I occasionally collaborate with another musician (with considerably more skill/talent than I will ever have). I write 'em and then we collaborate to finish them. Anyhow, this is the first (and probably the last depending on the comments) country flavored song I've ever written and I'n not even sure why it came out that way. I think it started with a bass line. Anyhow, this goes out to all the aging men who have yet to realize that "the bait ain't what it used to be"!!!!

Sweet Rosalie
VERSE: C F C G
CHORUS: C E7 Am F
C E7 Am C7
F Fm C
PULLED INTO THE DINER TO GET SOME GRUB AND A BEER
SEVERAL MUGS LATER SEEMS I'M STILL SITTING HERE
LUSTING FOR THE WAITRESS IN AN OVERT KIND OF WAY
PRETTY SURE SHE KNOWS IT. I DO IT EVERY DAY
SHE WAS OUT OF MY LEAGUE 20 YEARS AGO
BUT RIGHT NOW MY ATTENTION IS SETTING HER HEART AGLOW
A COMB OVER AND A TIC TAC I THINK I'VE GOT A SHOT
SHE CAN LIKE ME A LITTLE I AIN'T LOOKING FOR A LOT
**********CHORUS**********
LOVE ME JUST A LITTLE SWEET ROSALIE
YOU'RE NOT AS LOVELY AS YOU USED TO BE
NOT YOUR WORST OPTION I THINK YOU'D AGREE
JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES AND PRETEND IT'S NOT ME

I KNOW I'M NOT HANDSOME OR WEAR A SHIRT AND TIE
GOT A BAD FACE AND A LAZY GLASS EYE
NOT BRIGHT, BAD HYGIENE BREATH LIKE A FROG
AIN'T MUCH FOR CONVERSATION; BEEN MISTAKEN FOR A HOG
THE EYE THAT'S LOOKING STRAIGHT IS MAKING IT'S PLEA
IT'S SAYING COME ON BABY HOW 'BOUT YOU AND ME
WE CAN KEEP SIMPLE I AIN'T MUCH TO LOVE
BUT I'VE GOT SOME POISON I GOTTA GET RID OF

LOVE ME JUST A LITTLE SWEET ROSALIE
YOU'RE NOT AS LOVELY AS YOU USED TO BE
NOT YOUR WORST OPTION I THINK YOU'D AGREE

Re: Riffs (28 replies, posted in Electric)
i think i read somewhere that orbison based his "pretty woman" riff on the beatles "day tripper"? by the way he also said that P.W. was his least favourite song! cos he wrote in half an hour...?
top riffs include:
Paperback writer
whisky in the jar (did anyone see the phill lynot tribute, where whisky was played live....X L NT)
parizienne walkways
paranoid
locomotive breath
smoke on the water
stairway to heavenbest bass riff:
drive my car
badge
ad infinitemphill
Smoke on the water...the first riff everyone learns too. Just goes to show that it doesn't have to be hard to be good. Powerful but oh so easy

Start work at dawn, work until night
Working for the man til you get a fright
Realize it'll never stop and no end in sight

Re: Canadian Customers of Musicians Friend (6 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Maybe evil is a little strong but I have several gripes. Even new instruments are used as they are played and beat up over and over. Instruments with cracked necks hang on the wall priced as new; when you point it out a month later the same instrument is back on the sales floor sometimes not even repaired and being sold as new
I have personally had several bad experiences with them. I bought a line 6 product from them which had been registered previously by another user. I returned it and told them they should not sell returns as new product; they replaced my item with another in a beat up box that didn't work at all. On my third replacement, Line 6 informed that serial number was also registered to another private user. I have not returned since. New product should be new. I prefer the independent guys. Might pay a littel more but they care whether I return or not.
