How is the neck set now? Flat or with some relief (curve)? Sight down the neck and you want a "very" slight up bow. How much of an up bow depends on how level your frets/fretboard is and your style of play so it's impossible for me to say how much. You can run a guitar at 0 relief (totally flat) with low action but it has to be a perfectly flat fretboard... Chances are you'd need to get the frets professionally leveled. While you're sighting down it be sure to look for any twists or any high spots like where the fretboard meets the body. Examine your frets real closely and make sure they all are flush and tight all the way across the board.
The truss rod is only supposed to be used to set neck relief, not as a way of lowering the action. The action is adjusted at the saddle. Hmmm.... Speaking of the saddle, there's also a chance it's uneven... Measure the action of the 1st and 6th string at the 12 fret and lets see how that looks too.
These are real simple videos I did quickly for tony when helping him set up his guitar. They're very casual but you may find some helpful info in them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjXMH7Uw8G4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KdBZ3vL5ZY

Lucky Pix! The Shenandoah usually fishes well on a rise. It stirs up the bottom sediment, which contains a lot of nummy little insects the fish like to eat.

We must have had a misunderstanding somewhere along the line. I had mentioned making a week of it and we were/are considering staying longer or visiting some other places at a lazy pace back home next week... I'm still in NC now working hard to finish up some projects before leaving. We plan to head out early Friday morning for the 8hr drive and arrive sometime that afternoon. I'd have loved to of left earlier but I need to finish up the job we're on now and get another started up so work can continue while I'm away...
Hope you guys have a great time
Which strings are buzzing? You can take a piece of paper and put it between the string and frets and move it around the fretboard while plucking the string until the buzz is muted... This will usually give you a good idea of were it's originating... Could be that a fret has come loose and risen some causing buzz but it sounds more like the nut slots are too deep if it goes away when the string is fretted... Heading out to work now but will chime in more the afternoon....
It's great to hear from you Rebel! Lil Wing too Believe it or not I was thinking of you just the other day when I was going through some of my old chordie posts. I'm glad your doing well and still enjoying making music. Do you still draw a lot as well? I remember you being good at it... Hope to see you around more often now -Pix
Heck of a deal for $80! Congrats!
We don't have pricing policies on this forum
I'm just carrying a 6 man dome tent. It's mostly mesh unless you put on the rain fly.... I'm also going to carry some percussion stuff for any that don't play but still want to join in Bongos, gueiro, egg shakers, etc...
With a chance of rain I'd recommend getting a large trash bag to throw in the compartment of your case. Comes in real handy if your away from the tent and it starts pouring. Just put the case in bag and tie it off to keep it good and dry. I do this most nights as well to keep the humidity from damp mornings out...
You use linseed oil as a lubricant to help when applying french polish so the two are compatible. I don't foresee any problems if you go that route. I'd try contacting them directly again though to be sure.
I have a contact that works for Godin guitars but it's been awhile since I've talked to him... I'll see if I can dig up his email for you.
The company doesn't disclose the exact kind of polish. They just say custom polish but it's very similar ,if not the same, as French polish. It's a hand rubbed finish...
It's not a hard finish to apply but dries real quick and takes some practice to get it just right... I'd recommed gettin a few pieces of scrap wood about the same size as a guitar top and play with doing areas about that size before doing the guitar itself... As I said before it dries fast so you'll want pay attention and work it around the body from one upper bout to another keeping it overlapped for a even finish.
Welcome to Chordie!!
Just figured I'd share the weather forecast for this weekend for those attending from a distance...
Fri 15th Partly Cloudy high of 82 low of 61 With a 10% chance of rain
Sat 16th Scattered T-Storms High of 86 low of 65 chance of rain 60% (this is extended so hopefully it'll change)
Sun 17th Partly Cloudy high of 87 low of 67 Chance of rain 20%
Overall looks like very pleasant temps with the only down side being a chance of rain Saturday, but this an extended forecast so it may change some...
Thanks! Wife says "Awwww that was sooo sweet "
They are flatwound strings. I used Gibson flatwound mediums when I had my semi-hollow body electric and they always performed well for me. And yes, you can switch to round wound strings if you like I liked the flats for sliding around the fretboard quietly when amped though.
As to improving the sound quality, It's hard to say... They could just be old strings but generally flat wound strings seem a little duller in tone to me than round wound strings. It really depends on your whole set up, the sound your looking for, and the genre your covering. I like the flats for blues but round for most everything else.
I only ordered a limited amount for those that asked when this thread was active a few weeks ago. However, I did order a couple extra just in case Let me sort the orders for those that spoke first and then I'll drop you an email letting you know what I have left. I should have a blue one for ya though...
mekidsmom wrote:I have never in my wildest dreams imagined a 40 pound catfish! HOLY COW! That is amazing, but more amazing is the fact that you were able to catch him on a 10lb line! I once caught a 12 pound carp by the tail on a 10lb line (in fact, using a kiddie zebco... of course I was 10 years old) and THAT was quite an experience. I am just in awe at that fish you have. Nice canoe too!
It's just a baby I pull them out of Cape Fear river around 60-70 lbs fairly often and almost never fish with anything over 14lb test. It's packed with real nice blues and flatheads and they love about a 18 inch live eel or the head half of a big cut shad. I've spent many years mapping out that river bottom with sonar to find good spots though...
Light lines makes it sooo much more fun This was from the Lumber and it's a decent size for there. The biggest I've pulled out of it is only about 50 lbs.
Noodlin' cats is also a lot of fun if you have the nerve for it!
I believe NELA has caught some in the 80lb range if I remember right... I've never broke the 80lb mark myself though
All emails have been sent so if you don't get one please drop me a line!
I didn't send emails out to Zurf or MKM as I figured I'd just carry yours to the jam next weekend...
Thanks Zurf! Fixing to Google map the area now and get a lay of the land....
Fought that cat for about 30 minutes.... Had to ease him in on 10lb line and he was about 40lbs. He straight pulled drag for the first few and then I thought I'd lost him cause he just set on the bottom and I couldn't budge him an inch. Just knew He had me wrapped! He was finally beached though. Was fishing with a hand size bluegill for bait, set about 2 ft off the bottom... (That's a friend of mine holding it up so I could get a better pic) The Largemouth were biting really good to but I'll have to get my buddy to send me some pics of those.
I've been shopping around for a new canoe for a few months now and with the Chordie gathering right around the corner, I had an excuse to splurge a little... Went to BassPro this evening and picked up a Old Town Saranac 146XT canoe Now I can recline while floating down the river
Don't think the wife's too happy about me moving the couch and love seat out of the living room tonight to make room for it though...lol Got to clean out some room in the building for it tomorrow...
Sorry it's took so long guys. They came in 5-6 days ago but I've been swamped with work and haven't had the chance to email everyone yet. I'll be in touch tonight or tomorrow with all of you via email
More can be purchased in the future if you like but the price may vary slighltly. I'm trying to do these as a bulk order to get us a little better price.... Individual orders could be done later by signworks (send me an email for his contact info) if you wish.
Doug, the easiest way to pay would be through paypal or I could take a check or US Postal MO if need be. No need to worry about payment at this time though, I'm covering the initial investment myself. We can arrange the payments once I have them in hand and ready to mail out I'd guess about a week from now...
I'll be submitting this bulk order Monday so anyone else that's interested should speak up before then
Well the ribs turned out GREAT Some of the best I've had!
I slow baked them for 2.5 hrs @ 300 and then let them sit for about 30 minutes before smoking them for about an hour and a half over some Hickory. Then it was sauce time... Sauced them up and threw them directly over the hickory coals to caramelize them good and then moved 'em back to the smoking section for a little more smoky goodness to stick to the sauce. After about 30 minutes of that we had these babies
Highly recommend any of you rib lovers to give these a try! -Pix
dino48 wrote:Try a little orange marmalade the last several minetes when you are grilling chicken,it comes out like orange chicken you get at a chinese resturant. just baste the skin areas..
I'm going to try this sometime How do you season the chicken before basting? I Imagine this could make some killer wings paired with a honey & chili dipping sauce.... Man I'm gettin hungry
I think I'm going to try some whiskey grilled baby back ribs I was looking around online and came across this recipe http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Scott-Hibb … etail.aspx Think I'm going to give it a try... Going to skip adding the liquid smoke to the sauce and instead smoke them in the smoker with some hickory for about 45 minutes before they go directly over coals for the sauce to caramelize. Will report back with results and maybe some pics. I'm bored today lol
Now what to go with it.....hmmmm
