Hi Vico, I taught myself. I've been playing for about 18 months now and I'm as hopelessly addicted to it as the rest of the Chordians around these here parts big_smile

Practising and listening to the song you're trying to play closely are the only real tips I can give in my relatively short experience.

G'luck!

Baltus, thanks a lot for your kind words, much appreciated. I'd even think about knocking 10% off the price of the CD for you after that tongue

Hey Jeff, really like your song.

Don't know why, but the lryics got me to thinking about "In the Ghetto"....rspecially the verse about the son dying. In the ghetto is one of my all time favourite songs so anything that inspires thoughts and comparisons with that ain't half bad in my book!

Good job!

Very kind words Roger. Thank you very much...for once I'm speechless!

If anyone else fancies a listen I've now stuck the song on my Myspace page. The link is

Ok, been a wee while since I've posted anything here so figured it's time to get back on the horse, so to speak. Please note: No animals were hurt in writing this song.

Also, where it says C* I mean that you should slide the standard C fingering up 2 frets....but I didn't know the chord name. Hope it makes sense....

Chordpro error: This is not a valid artistname. You will have to specify an artistname in the form {st: Artistname} in the beginning of the code.

haha, for "ambidextrous" please see also "Stupid and a bit slow to figure out the new webcam he bought"

Thanks all for the kind words.....very encouraging to someone who was just lumping away at his guitar rather cluelessly 18 months ago.

.....and if I can do it.....sheesh!

I would be worried that you'd get too into the way of only playing one strum pattern. Mix it up and try to get used to playing different patterns.

It's a real pain at first, it doesn't seem long ago at all since I was having the same struggles. Just stick at it and keep on practising....it DOES get better honest!

Thank you very much, you're absolutely right about subscriptions / comments / views so feel free to keep 'em coming.

Definitely very motivational getting feedback from people about how you're doing so it's all very welcome and much appreciated. In my head I still sound like the same tuneless oaf as I was 18 months ago......or maybe I've always thought I was better than I am.....either way, a 3rd party opinion is the best way to tell how it's going tongue

P.S. Roger,  I'll get Fearless up there at some point. Got a bit of a sore throat following a slightly indulgent weekend / BBQ sing-song but once I can sing it properly I'll post it. Glad you like that song as it obviously means fair bit to me....

Hmmm, must try harder to upset Roger's sleep pattern.....

Ok then Roger, there're a dozen videos up there now. I'm fairly confident that one or two of them will prove distressing enough to keep you up nights. If you get bored or have a half hour you want to kill then feel free to have a peek. Usual disclaimers apply tongue

Very kind of you to say, although I'm sure you don't sound like an old toad...there are different songs to suit everyone's vocals. God knows I've murdered many a song simply from not having the right range for it...or sadly the guitar skills to change the key!

Anyhoo....I've now stuck another couple of videos up there (another busy day in the Wiser household tongue ) so if anyone is as bored as me then feel free to have a nosey.

Cheers!

Afternoon all......

As my uncontrollable ego grows ever bigger I've been searching for more ways to feed it. Thankfully I stumbled across Youtube and decided to stick some videos up there.

My first one is on now and it's a cover of Advertising Space by Robbie Williams. Not the best sound or image quality I'm afraid as I'm using a ropey webcam for the recording process but what the hell!

If anyone wants to have a look at it the link is:

No liability will be accepted for nightmares / hearing damage inflicted by what you may see on this video tongue

this seems like as good a place as any to mention:

www.myspace.com/marksmoosic

hehehe

I think Myspace is a great place for people to show what they can do, especially as you can only post original music on there. I don't think they even let you do covers, unlike youtube. No doubt it's a bit saturated now though, but either way at least it gets your tunes out there.

Guys, this is probably really old but on the off chance you haven't seen this then I'd suggest checking it out. Especially if you're a fan of the Verve.

I thought I could play this song quite well....in fact, I can play it QUITE well, but this dude plays it brilliantly. I haven't quite learned to play it his way but I'm working at it. Think he explains it all pretty well too.

Anyway, have a look and good luck!

I fear I may have misled slightly.... <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_rolleyes.gif" border=0 alt="Rolling Eyes">

I'm not suggesting that I'm up for performing to an audience as yet...family and friends is fine. In fact there's an impending barbecue that has me practically filling my nappy at the mere thought.

I'm just curious how the transition between the two works and when you make the call to have a bash. The thought of having a go and getting booed out the place isn't so great...but then maybe that's where the buzz of performing comes from, from pulling it off.

U2 at Celtic Park, Murrayfield, Hampden...all brilliant

James Brown at T in The Park

Primal Scream at the Barrowlands, what a venue!

Oasis, many times..Loch Lomond, Hampden, Murrayfield, SECC

Most recently saw David Gray here in my home town of Paisley playing an acoustic set in the town hall. Surreal venue but absolutely spellbinding performance.

....gotta love a live show!

Here's something that's been bugging me.....how good do you need to be to play a gig, say in a local pub or the likes?

I'm not necessarily considering it, nor indeed am I beating away offers on a daily basis. However, the appeal of playing to an audience is considerable in my opinion but when does someone decide they're ready??

It'd be interesting to know from any of you guys that do play gigs (or anyone else with an opinion, for that matter) how you arrived at your decision to finally make the step from the privacy of your own home to playing for an audience. Was it based on number of songs you knew, time you'd been playing, confidence, or indeed another factor that I've missed.

Maybe a silly question....but hey, that's what I'm here for  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_razz.gif" border=0 alt="Razz">
