Weddings are wonderful!  Best wishes to the betrothed!

I wish I could remember more of my wedding - I was stone-cold sober, but so nervous that it is all just a blur.  In the days leading up to the wedding, my beloved was all nervous and I was telling her, "Relax, it'll be fun."  Then, the day of our wedding she was absolutely serene and blissful - I was absolutely scared to death.

Hi kev25811 & welcome to chordie!

This is why I love the 'Song Request' section of chorie's forum - - - it's fun to learn about all sorts of songs and artists that are new to me.

Wow - 'Omie Wise' is a traditional ballad with a rich history and multiple versions.  It is one of those tragic stories of murder and injustice that fits so well in the world of traditional music.  It has been covered by Doc Watson, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and many many others.

Can't say that I found exactly what you seek (full lyrics and chords or tabs), but I did find a ton of fascinating info by just Googling 'Omie Wise lyrics chords'.
Here is a little bit of what I found:

Hi Jets/Jeff - Glad you can appreciate this goofy ditty!

A Dixie Beer would be absolutely delicious!  The old brewery on Tulane Avenue in New Orleans was damaged in Hurricane Katrina and is not yet re-opened.  Meanwhile Dixie Beer is being produced under license by some other brewers here and there around the country.  I hope the brewery owners are able to re-open eventually.

Hi Wibble - I like peanuts OK, but the song is mostly trying to be about the absurdity of the a peanut jar label warning that the product contains peanuts . . .

Roger, I shall try to get this recorded tomorrow when I have the house to myself for a few minutes.  This song is a real stomp & howl, twang & growl sort of thing.  I am gearing up to do an open-mic night this summer and this will be one of my selections.  I have lots of originals from which to choose - but this bit of nuttiness is for sure going to be on my list.

Hello VISH-GUITAR & welcome to chordie!

I am moving your posts to the Song Requests section because that is better place to get what you are looking for.  It would also be helpful if you could provide additional info such as artist, etc.

I have no idea what a Wholow guitar might be . . .

A fellow chordian once observed that a container of peanuts had this message printed on the label;
"Warning: Contains Peanuts"

Seems silly, but I know some folks have severe allergies to peanuts.  Anyway, here is a new & improved version.

I first posted this bit of goofiness in January of 2007.  Maybe it is somewhere in the forum archives, but I can't find it . . . shall record it soon.

Lovely!  Very much enjoyed listening.

Arkady, are you familiar with The Paul Winter Consort or Oregon?  Both of these groups do delicious instrumental compositions - really fine musicians.

These guys were doing 'world music' and 'ambiant music' before those names were invented . . .

Hi Zurf - My day started with an Excremental Tri-fecta . . . one of our big dogs (170 pound 5-year old English Mastiff) must have eaten something very nasty.

Urine, vomit, and diarrhea artfully splattered all about.  I couldn't face it right away . . . poured a big cup of coffee, went outside, read the funnies, got my courage up and then went back inside to do battle with the elements.

The poor dog is doing better now - - - he slept all day and was able to eat a little food this evening.  I'm not giving him full rations until I know he's better!

Hi Zucko & welcome to the Songwriting forum!  Don't worry about your English - it's qutie good enough and your song tells an interesting story.

Roger Guppy encouraged me to start recording my songs a little over a year ago - - it is a great way to hone your skills, so take the plunge and start recording.  It can be frustrating and scary at first, but the results are worth the effort.  James

Hi seriousfun - this is a dandy blues number.  Love the idea and what you did with it and want to hear some more of your stuff.

I took the liberty of fixing the 'voodoo codes' so it 'looks all purdy like' now.  You can open up your song with the 'edit' button (bottom right of message box) and see what I did to the coding.  James

Hi Karp & welcome to chordie!  I like your term 'catalyst phrase' - quite apt.  After I decided to write songs, I realized the world is full of song catalysts - noticing all the potential ideas is a state of mind.

I usually start with a lyrical idea and the music comes along later (or not).

I write alone - nothing against collaborating, it's just easier to do it on my own schedule.

I am never really 'totally done' with a song.  Most songs I work on in little bits and pieces over several sessions - I go through lots of pages of notebook paper.  Even after a song gets 'finished' I probably still add another verse or make alterations at a later date.  I find that re-working my old songs can be very helpful if the new ones just aren't progressing.

Being a "Songsmith" takes deliberate, daily effort (and paper, pencils, erasers, and a wastebasket).

This hymn's lyric is a powerful statement of faith.
The message touches people deeply and speaks to their intellect and their emotions.

The hymn tune is 'New Britain' and "Amazing Grace" is not the first or last lyric set to this melody.  Interestingly, the tune is a waltz (3/4 time) but most popular versions treat it as a common-time (4/4 time) song.

John Newton wrote several lovely hymns.  Here is the text of one he wrote just for weddings:
(Note: This is WAY out of copyright, so I can put full text here legally!)

May the grace of Christ our Savior, and the Father's boundless love
With the Holy Spirit's favor, rest upon them from above

Thus may they abide in union with each other and the Lord,
And possess in sweet communion, joys which earth cannot afford.

The hymn is nice and short - I suspect The Rev. Newton realized that newlyweds did not want to hang around in church for very long.

Hello APPLE55, welcome to chordie & glad you find it very useful.

I understand your comment.  Chordie is a search engine that finds, indexes, & formats material that is already on the web.  Registered chordie users can 'improve' songs in the index by editing stuff to their liking.

As to why some stuff is in chord form and other stuff is in tab format - well, that's just the way the files exist at the source where chordie finds them.  Personally, I don't use tabs . . . so I look for songs that have chords.

You can narrow your searching within chordie by selecting 'show only tabs' or 'show only chords'.  The default setting is 'show both chords and tabs'.  Look in the upper-right corner of the pages in the search index to choose your preference.

Hope this helps, James

I have been reading up on the whole Wikipedia universe and now realize that it is a complex and fascinating community unto itself.  Their articles regarding "What Wikipedia Is Not" and other bits are quite informative.

I'm going to pursue this notion - I think a properly-written (objective and informative) piece would be acceptable to Wikipedia's editing community.

Perhaps an article that focuses on the entire on-line music tabs phenomenon would be the route to take?

I use Wikipedia all the time, but have never submitted any material.  Just the other day, I searched for 'chordie' and was surprised there was no article.

Just checked Wikipedia's deletion log and this what is there:

03:17, 1 May 2008 Versageek (Talk | contribs) deleted "Chordie" ‎ (A7 (bio): Real person; doesn't indicate importance/significance)
21:25, 1 April 2008 DJ Clayworth (Talk | contribs) deleted "Chordie" ‎ (A7 (web): Web content; doesn't indicate importance/significance)
12:56, 6 April 2007 NawlinWiki (Talk | contribs) deleted "Chordie" ‎ (a7 nonnotable website)

Perhaps these editors are not musicians.  Perhaps these editors are being overly critical.  However, I believe there should be a chordie article in Wikipedia.  Chordie may not be most significant thing in the world, but it is an innovative, popular, growing, and very well-designed site.

I shall think about it and look into this - - - maybe some of us can collaborate on a draft and then submit.  A well-written article that addresses the editors' concerns should be possible.

Anybody who wants to help with this idea, please say so in this thread.   James

Hi voltazmiq & welcome to chordie!

So glad to meet another autoharper . . .
I love my  OS110FT 21-chord - twangs real sweet and I love to sing with it.

For me, it is a perfect songwriting tool.
Please check out my "Songs for Human and Autoharp" page:
http://www.myspace.com/r200james

There are always 6 original songs there and I put up a new one each week.
Chordie is a great resource - and the forum has many fine individuals participating.

Look forward to getting to know you better,
James McCormick

p.s.
Hey last_rebel, get that sweet little twanger box out of the closet, tune it up (easier said than done!), and give it some love!

I don't really want a formal funeral - just a really good party/wake as a chance for friends to get together and celebrate my life (not mourn my death).

I would want one of my own songs performed by friends:

Hi Russell,
There are some sound demo clips there for the basses (down the page, to the right).  There is also a link to site that has a video demonstration and review of the 5-string bass.

The company also developing a chambered-body guitar.  Under 'products' you can see the instrument and read a description, but there are not yet any sound demos up for that product (at least that I could find).

I think this innovation is very intriguing and expect that it will yield some more innovations from both players and instrument builders.

Here is an intriguing bit of new technology:
http://www.lightwave-systems.com/lightw … Pickup.htm

Seems like a very promising innovation.  Anybody have any experience with this nifty gizmo?

Hi Chuck,
Good question.  I am not a tech whiz, but I'm sure such a resource would be technically possible.  However, that would be a business decision involving costs, etc.

All of the forum Moderators and Administrators are volunteers who help with the site because we enjoy the resources offered by chordie.

New features have steadily been added to chordie and obviously many people find the site to be very useful.  Chordie serves a specialized niche in the market.

Personally, I don't mind having to go MySpace Music (or YouTube or Bebo, etc.) to share or hear recordings.  MySpace and others specialize in providing this service along with other useful resources.  In other words, that wheel has already been invented.

So, my opinion is that chordie should continue in it's core specialty and let other sites handle the sharing of recordings.  But then again, that's just an opinion of a volunteer . . .  James
