Again a very at first sight easy, but in fact a difficult topic. Because in Latin: THE GUSTIBUS ED COLORES NON EST DISPUTANDUM. About taste and colors you can't dispute.

Every single person is unique, so everyone has an opinion. Some opinions, especially concerning religion, are now a dailey fact. The Koran is very similar to the Holy Bible, but like catholics acted in South America, killing a lot of people is not to understand. This has nothing to do with "my favourite ballad" list, I just couldn't resist to write this.

It is even more difficult to make a list from 1 to 15. So I will not give "POINTS" or putting this song on number one. I think that you may have the same feeling. It can be different from day to day, from your mood. There are songsyou really love, because of memories, marriage (when the groom and the bride start to dance, you should be able to make a list existing of wrong songs, because they love the melody, but they didn't listen to the lyrics, examples: return to sender by Elvis, how can you mend a broken heart, don't forget to rember, both very beautiful songs by the Bee  Gees.

My 10 greatest ballads.

- The Cars: Drive

- Bee Gees: How can you mend a broken heart

- Beatles: Because and more specific from the CDVD Love

- Rolling Stones: Blinded by rainbows

- John Lennon: Imagine

- Queen: Love of my Life

- Righteous Brothers: Unchained Melody

- Procol Harum: Homburg

- Eric Clapton: Tears in Heaven

- Harry Nillson: Without You (info: song is written by Badfinger, covered by Nillson, in my eyes THE BEST, anyway a lot better than the Whitney Houston, I think. He sings straight from the deepest point in his soul, Houston: To Perfect, no soul in it. Badfinger: a poppy tune, I think they are all dead now.)

- Cat Stevens: Father and Son

- The Eagles: Desperado

- Simon & Garfunkel: The only living boy in New York. I love the way they perform it, in "crescendo"

- Dire Straits: Why Worry (there will be sunshine after rain...)

- Mark Knopfler: Title song: last exit to brooklyn.

- Peter Kingsbury: Only the Very best (song title), and I can continue for at least 50 songs.

Hope you like such a list, and I'll be glad to hear your comments and list. But don't forget: a ballad is tricky you will notice that it depends on what you feel right now, deep inside.

That confirms my opinion. You can even plug a headphone to play silent electric guitar.

It is impossible today, to purchase a Fender. What do you think of a RELIC fender, a reissue, and many more like squier, mexican fenders. Do you here the difference playing an exact copy of a genuine USA Fender.

Same with Gibson. I went to visit the plant in Memphis, where hollow bodies are made: LUCILLE's, 335, 175 and so much more. I was surprised the way they make a guitar, people tell it is automatic, but I prefer "automatic people" with their proper skills, starting from peaces of wood, and ending in the store. I was a little bit shocked when they told us that 20%-30% of guitars, they still stay there a couple of months before going to stores, are DESTROYED JUST BECAUSE THERE IS AN ESTHETIC PROBLEM, like paint , 1 drop to much: destroy the guitar. Why don't they bring those out: another name, and on the headstock, where they write custom and other things, they can write Gibson. Did you know that almost every person working there receive each year a Gibson, influenced a little bit by that part of their job, if they were sick a while, their motivation, but it still stays a nice bonus.

Fender is going 100% crazy. Is the Fender Highway, a lot cheaper, a good sounding guitar. Do you REALLY HEAR THE DIFFERENCE between a Mexican strat and US strat. Also a lot of these guitars are made in Japan, China (very good workers and very motivated), Korea. SEE PRS the SE series, they really approach the US PRS, I do agree that it is not so smooth to play it, an SE. And than all those fender models, you need a year to test them to find a good sounding guitar (you have to test it without using an amp, and when you use an amp, don't change the configuration of this amp, and don't touch volume on the guitar. I am really curious to hear what the "chordies"people think. 1 more thing, is there a lot of difference in sound between a "standard" fender and the newer G&L guitars, also co-founded with Leo Fender. What should a player who likes fender, and has 5000$ in his hands, custom reissues, relics. Same thing with Gibson, they have Epiphone, will it sound different?

Those things are fascinating, and I wrote this topic to share, the more, the better, information, before the guitarist buys a "better instrument", because almost every guitar player in the world like to buy sooner or later, a " BRAND NAME". I have a lot of guitars, but I don't know if you can hear real good the difference between an Epi and a real gibson, I have one Epiphone: Sheraton, increasing in value. What guitar, not TALKING ABOUT THE KIND OF MUSIC YOU PLAY, meaning, ballads, blues to heavy metal. What is so SPECIAL about the PAF humbuckers. 1958-1959-1960 Gibson Les Paul Standards cost more than 200.000$ This is not funny anymore, the reissues like Les Paul, made today but build like Gibson Standard 59, a jimmy page? Even Tokai "Gibsons" become collector's items. Are the 58--> 60 standards THAT better???, more, the Gibson Les Paul Custom, the more expensive Gibson Les Paul Custom, the same period, is about 4 times "cheaper", also with PAF's AND BEING A CUSTOM. I really would love your opinion, as I wrote already, I am disabled due to a car crash in 2000, >I can sit, walk, but it is more and more difficult to go to the store. I also will write an identic topic, concerning acoustics. I THANK you already for participating this topic, or to react. The more reactions, the better. I have a lot of time, I looked everywhere, from harmony central to the fender, gibsonwebsites, but I think that writing this can give me, and especiall new guitarplayers, a decent answer. Don't forget, we may be playing quit good, but a (long) time ago, we were starters too.

I know and love this group. Now it is even "not done" to love pinkfloyd, that's why I find it SUPER that they all sing, the song another brick in the wall, remix, I don't know the guy. So this means for instance that my daughter, huge R&B fan, has to change her idea, when I asked how old this number was; answer a couple of months, I needed to say 30 years.

My SPECIAL interest, goes in fact to SYD BARRETT, the founder of (at the beginning) THE PINK FLOYD. I know almost everything, concerning that "poor" guy. I don't think what they wrote when he died on 7th of July last year. I know that every year, 1 or 2 times, the other members visited him, to pay, and it was still a lot of money, from their first album. a piper..., this is an exemple how drugs can cause braindamage ( also a pink floyd song). Gilmour was his best friend, learned him to play more blues style, because Syd discovered the blues, playing rolling stones songs, beatle stuff at that time They were best friends, but he went to Cambridge high school of arts, where he found a former best friend: Roger Waters and he met also other friends of Waters: Wright and Mason. The Pink Floyd was a fact. They all say he was a genius, might be, but I can give the answer, I liked pink floyd, since the albums Ummagumma, atom heart mother, live in Pompei, I have The Piper at The Gates, A saucerful of sectrets, there is only one Barrett song JUG BAND BLUES also recorded with David Gilmour, still his best friend, who played together with the group while Barrett, still there but in what condition, had to leave. Even after he left he was the source of inspiration of many Pink Floyd song. Songs as shine on you crazy diamond, Wish you were here, and the biggest one, the wall is written FOR SYD BARRETT. (This story remebers me of another SUPER musician, BRIAN , rolling stone JONES, also tormented by the fact that teir manager, had put and locked up, Jagger and Richards. Imagine that situation, he started with the stones, he was the best player, all the women went crazy when they saw his "angelface", if I was GAY, I think I should love him. So I know a lot of musical facts, but are there MEMBERS HERE ON CHORDIE WHO OWN RECORDS MADE BY SYD BARRETT. Prbably there have to be songs. EMI rejected at least 3 songs, still active in Pink Floyd, like scream, vegetable man, thy last scream. EMI wanted songs as bike, see Emily play. I am desperatly looking for the solo albums, maybe 2 or 3, of SYD. Also I am looking and hoping to find BRIAN JONES songs.

Those stories are really sad, and similar. Does somebody has suggestions, or know where I can find their songs?

I am really glad to see all those different answer.

I was a lot in contact with "users" due to professional reasons. I can understand at least 90% of the "why". You start to take something, especially when the stress is high. It starts with innocent stuff, like medication to sleep, slowly a lot of them start with a kind of speed. I tried to avoid these things, but sometimes I had to. Strange but true: a lot of sleeping pills, one of the most known is ROHYPNOL, and our country is "famous" in prescribing drugs, meaning legal. Nobody cares, every patient goes around from one doctor to another. I prescribed at last "caffeine" 200-300mg, it is like drinking red bull's, and I was very engaged with these people, retracting a lot of persons buying "legal" stuff on the black market. Concerning XTC, it is dangerous, and they call it party drug. I admit that about 90% took this drug just in the weekend, and NOT in the week. To stop, it ain't easy, but if are motivated: it will work. But the BIGGEST DRUG is ALCOHOL. I have seen what a destruction this product and you can get it everywhere. This "drug" is so normal, because you can get it almost everywhere, that finally nobody stands still, while they drink a beer, concerning the problems. I have still one thing on my heart: if you start to sell cocaine and/or heroin in a legal way, a lot of countries will have very big problems, because a lot of these drugs are kind of supported by a lot of governements. Young artists take it often for so called "inspiration" to write better songs, and than they start to take more and more: opportunity, tired, flashes and at the end they HAVE to take it, just to function more or less normal. The tolerance is a lot higher and to be honest, if somebody out there has used, you will never get back the same feeling after taking drugs during 3 days.

That's a good one. This is the kind of names, even famous bands, I like to hear. Also bands with a name that means completely a different word in another language.

I liked also, DR HOOK AND THE MEDECIN SHOW.

This is a very difficult topic, and I hope to make it a funny one, watching the names of groups. This is a typical topic, where your answer is on top of your tongue, but doesn't come out of it.

Or bands with a name simular, even synonime, to really dirty name

If you go on the ballad tour, using an original composition, style Bryan Adams, Bee Gees, and you put the right lyrics for your song, she will defenitly appreciate.

GOOD LUCK, with a good LICK

I have a topic, but it is in my eyes VERY IMPORTANT, for new, young artists, and musicians playing quit a while. We pick up music the whole day, commercials, radio and some tunes stay in your head.

It is not so difficult this subject. It is as I said very important to a lot of people.

Does someone has found or knows a website with "plagiarism songs".

QUESTION: If you copy an existing song(s)and you change all the lyrics, is this considered as 50% plagiarism???

Like instead of Blowin'in the wind, writing, the question, dear soldier, is shooting on someone else, the question is what will you do. This a new lyric, created in 10"", on the lyrics of Blowin' in the wind. AM I VIOLATING A LAW when I use those LYRICS???

But that is just me, that opinion, or consider it maybe as a statement

I like to know and learn a lot here.

My topic is: who is the best acoustic group.

I can only give you 2 names: Crosby, Stills, Nash & (or not) Young.

Also Bob Dylan, in the beginning, and later, mixed with electric.

If I am not wrong, also Richie Havens.

I want to know, especially concerning big names in the music world, the group with the most funny or special names. I like the name of the group Marylin Manson. There are also names of pop/rockgroups, who started to live their own lives, for instance ALICE COOPER, started as name of a band, wasn't it a guy named Vincent Fournier, who started with a group, named Alice Cooper?

1) I don't know how your voice sounds, but I do know how a guitar sounds. Like the others told you, continue to improve your guitarskills.

2) It is more difficult than I taught, sing and play at the same time, or better, play and sing at the same time. Try to start a band, drums, bass, another guitar.

Even Mick Jagger, the rolling stones can play guitar, I even think that he composes too, using keith riff richards to play together.

This a weird topic, but it can help people to understand better the drug scene. Probably I mentioned it already, but my profession is medical doctor, with special interests in mental problems, like addiction. It's also a knowledge and very interesting to see, how simple guys show, the younger they are, the more chance to end like this. I would even use the word split personnality.

It is already long ago, but after the dead of Jim Morisson, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin, some music magazines had their own deathlist. On the top, I am speaking of the early seventies, the numbers 1 & 2 were Lou Reed & Keith Richards. The reason why Keith didn't die is like it is with alcohol, and medication, some people taking 1 valium 5mg sleep the whole day, while others can take 50 times more. Alcohol, some people are drunk after 2 glasses, while others are still standing after 25 drinks. I think it is depending on your constitution. Also, the more money you have, the better the quality is. Even when you take coke (classical way: through the nose) you inhale at the same time, from 1gram cocaine, there is maybe left 30%, and 70% real dirty products, ammoniak, it is incredible how they do it. Dealers, making 7 kg out of 1 kg.

If you read a book, like the one BILL WYMAN wrote, they have been through a lot. You know, that there is a theory that the only reason, why Keith Richards is still alive, is because he had always, the highest quality and pure heroin.

I have been MD on the biggest rock festival in Europe, ROCK WERCHTER, and I have to admit that I saw a lot. One example, do you remember the happy mondays?, I had to enter their trailer for a reason, and 10 minutes later, I came out of the trailer, and everything was so funny, and I even didn't smoke, but 10 others did.

I must tell also that there was an evolution in the + direction, most of them are health freaks now.

I can also understand that because of the stress, they wanted to be in a higher level. But aren't there a lot of people, also with a lot of stress. It is sad to see, how talented guys, loose control. Their only boss is king alcohol, with his family: princess Heroine, prince Coke, and they have nephews like xtc and a maid named Mary Huana. What is your opinion on this one?

There are tuners on some guitars, I main the tuning knobs, who are difficult to use. Your guitar is tuned, but it is not staying in tune, I even got this problem with GIBSON's I had a gibson studio and every 3 song, I needed to tune it again and this is not very funny, especialy having an expensive guitar.

The best thing you can do is what the other members told. Buy a tuner, korg has them to name 1 brand. I have a few tuners, like in my amp, a fender cybertwin, also I have a fender tuning machine, I use it a lot, but you just see the letter of the string you tuned. You are better of, if you have a guitar tuner. It is strange that when I tune my guitar with my amps or devices like korg pandora,(cheap and a lot of built-in effects, drum and bass too), and or with a classic tuner, that sometimes everything is very well tuned but that you see a difference between my classic tuner, still with a needle and the tuner in your other devices like the tuner in my floorbord or my amp tuner. You van als maket a bit easier, or simple by using the tone have, if you phone to other people, to tune it. If you are blessed with a musical "EAR", you just need 1 chord, to tune your guitar. Take the big string, and push on the chord on the 5-th fret, repeat this for all chords except for the 5-th string where you have to put your finger on the 4-th string on the 4-th fret, they have to sound the same, that is one of the reasons why I mentioned "musical ear" . I hope this was helpful and if you search with google, tuning guitars, you will all the things you need, there is even a site where they show you how to tune a guitar. If I am not wrong  I saw it on youtube.

Goodluck

I see you have answered the first, the most important in a group, roadie, manager, tourmanager.

Sometimes having a manager looks very bad to me. I have my opinion, you have NOT TO BE A SHARK to be a good manager. You need someone who takes care of business, not easy to find. If I was a prof musician, I should go to an headhunter, if required to increase your chances. Still there are groups with big problems with their manager, and through him with the record company. There are more GOOD managers than bad. I also do understand that there will always be programs on the web,for free like napster was, and audiogalaxy. Even these days are gone, you still have big and important music sites mp3 and no money to pay, and if you pay you pay only for $20 (to be legally) for a lifetime. I am sure it harms the record sale, but studies have also proven the opposite. For starting groups, put your song on youtube, and look the reactions. What I should do is give the people only 50% of the song. If you are and there are already rock groups, that have thanks to that site, are projected as stars. I just don't understand, that you can create a site and not asking money for it, like napster in 2000 and 2001, that when they sell this product for big $$$$$$. Where do they get their money: publicity?

The most terrible joke is the "john Fogerty" case. Young and enthousiast they signed contracts that among other hidden traps, contracts who told that songs written by CCR were property of atlantic. It is disgusting on 1 hand, but if you are a painter you make a beautiful painting sold for a lot of money as a unique piece, you are completely wrong if you paint the same for someone else. All those rights are so difficult, see the case of Michael "wacko jacko" Jackson, who purchased every beatle song, which I still can not understand how this was possiblle. I would say that if you can obtain the rights from a very popular hit, only one, should be enough to live a good life without working. I still don't get it that a record company, like sony, can spend millions and millions of $ to sign an artist, who is supposed to bring out 5 full cd's. To come back on music download for free, check the ticket prices, who are now very expensive, mainly because they sell only 5.000.000 albums in stead of 8.000.000 records. You can discuss about this subject for weeks often without finding a solution <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_eek.gif" border=0 alt="Shocked">

I think this can be an interesting topic, like RAPPERS using samples, but to be more specific, I had based this topic on some interessant cases.

- One of the most popular songs, always ending in the top-5 of best songs, is the falous "stiarways to heaven" by led zeppelin. Search for the group Spirit with there song TAURUS, you will not believe your ears when you hear the begin tune.

- George Harrisson with MY SWEET LORD, is supposed to be "stolen" from The Chiffons: SHE"S SO FINE, but personally I hear some similarities, but a real plagiarism incident, well concerning this song I have my doubts. You can go back in time, (I can be wrong about the time, that the rights stay in hands of the songwriter for 70 years), and compare the following songs: THE CANON by PACHELBEL, and the amazing fact that at least 2 songs I know are copies, but LEGAL. Rain and tears, Aphrodites child (demis roussos and vangelis) and try to sing this together with Ralph Mc Tell's : Let me take by the hand and lead you through the streets of Londen, you will have almost a perfect match.

Concerning PROCOL HARUM, the funniest thing I heard was in a live performance that he thanked their major songwriter: Johann Sebastian Bach. In this topic, you can write about influences, see also BLACK BETTY by Ram Jam and the original performed long ago, just with a guitar and tapping on the floor, or BOB DYLAN, starting with THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SON.

I prefer to know your opinion, using ACTUAL ARTISTS playing ACTUAL songs, even if they exist 40 years, using their names as composers, while in fact another one composed this song. You can change lyrics and not the melody, so you avoid more problems. IF YOU FIND PLAGIARISM, please let me know, because this is an important and useful TOPIC. Remember some are not aware of stealing someones idea, there are only 7 main chords. Also the famous hit MACARENA, was an existing tune, they picked up listening to a streetmusician.

Share all these things with me, but even more for CHORDIE and the future stars among us

You are even more guitarfreak than I am.

Do you sell guitars, or do you have a store.

If yes, I would be pleased to contact you, I've learned a lot from your answers. I also see in lists, like best electric songs that I still have to look around even more, I just surf to amazon.com and check these groups. There are so many good songs, and even a lot of underestimated groups. You can even find songs plagiarism. Do you know the song stairway to heaven (stupid question) versus taurus & spirit? The zeppelin song is completely Identic to the other.

I think I'm gonna create a topic about plagiarism.

Thanks a lot

I have 2 fender's, I like them a lot, but my favourite guitars are PRS (Paul Reed Smith). They do have a "splendid" serie, s= single coil and h= humbucker.

They made those guitars, except for one, only erom 1990 till 1992.

I have all cominations of the coils.

s-s-s a real attack on fenders, and everybody who hear this huitar in action, tells me that this PRS is sounding a lot better than a fender strat. I also have s-s-h and an h-s-h configuration. These guitars are amazing, the sound, the way you can play on it, fast...

But since PRS started only in 1985, they were put on the market too early. Concerning FENDER Stratocaster: In the end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies, you had two kind of fenders: stratocaster and telecaster, I don't mention jaguar and a few other models. The only thing you could change was the color. Now it is IMPOSSIBLE to cghoose a fender stratocaster, you have:

- squier from korea, I think, and real cheap.

- mexican strats (don't know if they are better)

- US strats, highway for instance is good and cheap, but a lot of strats are better but more expensive. It is in my opinion impossible to find a strat, because there are to many strats: reissues, custom shops, relics. I am glad that I have a 1964 original strat, I can sell this one for around 20.000$, but more my PRS single coil sounds better. I am sure that there are still a few "super fenders" but THE problem is there are too much strats. It is and I mean it a very good guitar, but it is easier to choose a gibson: a lot less models

There is 1 thing I can not understand.

You purchase let's say a gibson SG standard with 490R neck and 498T bridge coils, with cover. They throw another gibson SG on the market, like the menace with also 490R and 498T BUT they call them SMOKEY coils, without cover. I have to admit that there is no special paint on it, just wood you see. I visited once the factory in Memphis tenessee, and it is, I think, quit expensive to put the nitrocellulose on the guitar, taking a lot of time.

But my question was more: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 490R and a 490R=Smokey coil, 498T versus 498T smokey coil. There is quit an important difference when you purchase a gibson sg, and I haven't yet got the occasion to compare.

well, thanks already for your opinion, there will be singers in this kind of poll, I don't know at all. I like really to learn on this forum, and others. Like best singer(s) if you see my list, I should better move up Joe Cocker.

I wass thinking something about the program: IDOL 2007.

Amazing what some people can do with their voice. Tell me If I AM WRONG, I think that a classical formed singer, can do a lot more than others, because of there specific "breathing" techniques, but like it is for everyone, you need a gift. The only thing is that a lot of gifted people can't handle it and don't use their gift.

This is a very hard one to tell.

I think concerning influence: THE BEATLES.

But the strange thing is that all important BRIT-POP bands, were definitely influenced by the "neglected, because of black performers, they started to play blues and rock & roll, bands like The Animals, Fleetwood Mac, in the Peter Green years, with songs like Dust my Broom, Oh well, and same with the stones if you take the time to listen to their first albums.

So BEST BAND: The Beatles.

BEST INFLUENCE: USA blues (boomerang effect)

BEST SOLO PERFORMER and inspiration of every guitarplayer in the world BAWB DYLAN.

The most important musicians in a band are, more important than most people think, the musicians playing the rythm section, DRUMMERS, BASS guitar. If you play electric or acoustic, you might be important, but even "finger pickers" use the low strings to create a rythm effect.

It are those 2 people who have to be the most attentive players. If the guitarist is starting with a 30 minutes solo, the rythm guys have to follow, BUT if you work with a drum machine basloops included, the machine will not follow you, but you have to follow the machine. That makes the difference between a good rockband and a VERY GOOD rockband: follow the rythm
