Happy NGD Roger! Your new baby is beautiful... probably even more so than the one pictured. I wish you two many years of making much beautiful music together!

Very good Ray! It does have a lighthearted feel to it like T-Rex said... and then the empty letterbox. I said good, I meant GREAT! Many of us find a doosy the first time around... then we learn the hard way and don't travel that road again! Thank you for sharing this piece with us!

Re: Beatles lyrics (3 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Hi Lario - Welcome to the Forum! I'm sorry you're having a problem with this. It is a reoccurring question, discussed many times on the forum (you can do a search within the forum and type in "Beatles" and you'll find LOTS of people talking about this block, as well as some suggestions on where to find Beatles music/lyrics). For now, here's my "stock" answer:
The website admin has had legal copyright problems and has had to remove/block some songs. Here's a link to a thread with some more information. It's not necessarily the answer you're looking for, but a discussion of what's been happening with that issue. Apparently the code placed to block the appropriate parties is a little haphazard, as a lot of folks out of the UK have noticed being blocked from time to time. I'd suggest trying again, or checking out some of the other links given. Maybe try without logging in, try again with logging in... or my BEST guess is that you need to edit your TIME ZONE. I'm not sure how admin has the code written, but I'll guess it has to do with time zone!

It is lovely indeed ... will you be singing it at their wedding Phill? What a nice gift, even if it's just a song and recording for them!

Very cool Toots! It's so unique to see a guy standing there just playing acoustic with a TUBA accompanying him! I think I liked that better than a bass on the side Thank you for sharing... it was nice to see you peeking out around behind there!
For Mother's Day I received a new steel string guitar as a gift - I've been spending lots of time toughing up my fingers working on playing that thing... then going back to my nylon only to find that I'm now beating the heck out of it when I play (I need to change the strings on it too). I've got a few songs in the works... but no time to record lately. It's the end of the school year, my teen has regents, my 5 yr old has pre-k graduation and dance recital. Hopefully in a couple weeks once the kids are out of school I'll be able to find a little more quiet time. OR... maybe I'll just set the video camera up, forget the "quiet" and do a little playing around while the kids are being nuts and call it "youtube" worthy! LOL!

Re: Some songs dont match tab player (3 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi Deedsy and welcome to Chordie! I've found that happens only if the song you're looking for isn't available on the tab player website. Then you get directed to another song by that artist (or something similar). If the song is available, then it does take you to the correct song.

Whoops... I'll delete that post asking for any suggestions. THANK YOU Roger for making it a sticky!
Nom - The order they are in is the same order that circle of fifths are in - It's all about keeping the music theory in mind I suppose.

Topic: Capo Conversion Chart (0 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Special Thanks to NELA for sharing this Conversion Chart.
Other open shapes also work with this chart as a guide. An E shape with the capo on the 5th fret is an A;
if you play an Em shape with capo on the 5th fret you will have an Am - an E7 will be an A7
You should be able to save the picture by right clicking on it, then "save image as" - once saved to your computer you can print it by itself without printing this thread. Or you can go directly to my Picasa web album by clicking here and click on "download" then "download photo".

Gerhard - I see you've been enjoying Chordie for a while, so welcome to the forums! I don't know that there's a way for you to do that, unless you were saving everything into another file and then editing it and printing. That's a good suggestion however for the admin. I'm sure he'll take a look and take it into consideration. Don't be disheartened if you don't get a response from him as he's a very busy man in his personal life, and of course Chordie is more of a hobby I believe. THANK YOU for the suggestion!
Keep on strumming!

Re: Question re: Avatars (5 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Nom - my thoughts are that by using a guitar company's logo as an avatar you are sharing your love for that particular brand. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. "unauthorized advertising" comes into play when you are linking to other sites for the purpose of advertising them (get more hits, gain google page ranking, direct to a "buy now" site, or a commercial site that is more of an online storefront than has information). You won't be using a link, just a photo. As for "copyright materials" - I believe that most companies (at least guitar companies) are proud to have folks sharing the love for their brand and would not feel infringed upon if someone was using their logo as an avatar.
I'd wait for a couple more replies from other mods just to be sure ... but my thoughts are that it will not be a problem. I think it's really great that you checked in first tho Nom, to make sure you weren't bending any rules by doing so! Once you get a couple more go aheads, remember that the avatar has to be a picture that's shrunk down in size considerably (60X60 pixels I believe). If you need any help with that... drop me an email!

Marcalan - Zurf is a new Moderator, cut him a little slack please. He sent his apologies. I do recall seeing your name on a few poems, although I was a little confused myself at first. If you could please just mention in the beginning of a post that it's a poem written by you, and then go ahead and sign it with your real name, it will save a lot of confusion in the future. I would have appreciated being able to just enjoy the poem, rather than be trying to figure out/remember which names go with which handles. Attempting to provoke discussion or not, this really should have been placed in the poem section. Lots of good conversation does go on in that forum which was made for the purpose of sharing poems regardless if they are related to music or not.
Although you haven't outright swore - you might as well have with your personal attacks on other members/moderators and the anagrams aimed directly at them. Please refrain in the future. This site is NOT about that.
Is this piece about Abby Sunderland? Those were my first thoughts as Old Dolls. Your writing is lovely and haunting as her story is.

Welcome to Chordie HardGround! The best I could find is at musicroom.com you can pay for the sheet music for these individual songs. It looks pretty cheap - but not available in the US or Canada. Not sure where you're from friend. I couldn't find any free chords or anything anywhere on the net myself. Sorry Good luck!

I don't know much theory DM... but I just figured this capo stuff out today! LOL!
There's a chart here I made up today (along with a link to a more in depth one I found on another site): http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14925Awesome-o!!!
Thank you ma'am!
That's just what I needed...now to transpose that song!woohoo!!

Whoo Hoo! Glad to be able to help, and of course NELA's chart is really nice! It's in my binder with my music now! You had the right idea DM, was just a little backwards. So awesome that you'll be able to figure this out now! I'm really thrilled that I'm finally getting this portion of it. As I start to understand what happens with the capo - suddenly barre chords all make sense to me too. Now, that doesn't mean I can barre anything, but they make sense now!

Thanks for the review Zurf. I've been wondering about the Tusq saddles because I'm a little nervous about having to do all the shaping with bone. I will keep an eye out next time I'm in the guitar shops to see if there's any pre-made saddles that fit my dread for sure now!

Re: "F" chord is now outlawed (148 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I am still in "dread" mode. I started playing in August of last year, hit it pretty hard until November, then I haven't played at all since then. The brain is willing, but it didn't seem like I was getting any better. I was supposed to get some guitar lessons for Christmas, but they haven't come to fruition yet. I think right now I am getting in to my own head a little bit and blocking myself from learning. I am also in the middle of a necessary weight loss journey and that needs to take priority over everything else. We will see. In the mean time I will keep checking in on the forums to see if I can pick up some pointers.
Scott -- Hudson Valley, NY
Welcome to the forums Caromshot (Scott)! We both started "learning" at about the same time. I was pleased with my little strides, and the great Chordie members were very encouraging (as well as my hubby) and that helped to keep me motivated. Check out justinguitar.com and walk through his beginner lessons. Of course, you won't get feedback on what you're doing "wrong" or "right" but he really is an excellent teacher! If it hadn't been for him I wouldn't have ever gotten that first song down. As he starts you out with A, D, and E ... try "Leaving on a Jet Plane" as it primarily goes between A and D with an E just for good "measure" Pick that guitar back up and get going. I HIGHLY suggest doing some practice exercises, just switching chords and finger stretches etc. It makes a difference! GOOD LUCK!

Re: Tips and advice for switching chords. (7 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Makes sense Steve! Going from D, E, and A I learned this straight away when I first started out (anchoring). I just started changing the way I finger a few common chords to make an easier transition to the next one. I saw this as a suggestion on one particular song I was working on. It sure makes a WORLD of difference on that song... but then going back to the original fingering to do another song trips me up sometimes. PRACTICE makes perfect! I agree with Pix, for beginners that haven't considered this or been shown this yet, a vid would be welcome (ditto the "warnings"). Thanks for helping members out! That's what it's all about!
