I had a strange idea last year. It occured end 2006 and at  that moment I didn't know the existance of chordie. Why do I mention this: because of the structure of the band members. A singer was NOT present.

The group existed as follows: 4 guitar players, with 4 very nice voices, 1 guy who played bassguitar, also singing, 1 very complete drummer, handling all music styles and 1 keyboard player, having a lot of possibilities in his keyboard, playing stuff identical to big band music, or organ, like in church. This strange combination, had also a percussion section.

Why this combination, and 4 guitarists: a complete different sound. To be more specific, trying to play, and to sing in harmony (singing like CSN&Y, Bee Gees), to give some examples.I don't have to look where this idea started I was thinking of my best concert I ever saw: Carlos SANTANA, supporting act Paco de Lucia. After the last note Santana had squeezed out of his guitar, they started again with "flamenco", first Paco, followed by Carlos in the second song and at the end 10 (TEN) guitar players, all playing the same song, in a different way. That's why I am convinced that one can form a band with 4 guitarplayers, using all kinds of different chords, or acoustic, or electric, or a combination. You need a real good rythm section too.

All members can sing and the point is, what do you find of this composition of a "pop- R&R - blues" group.

You will have a fantastic 4 guitar harmony, and voices.

Well, I didn't think about these people. That's one of the more important reasons for this topic, share your knowledge and to learn what other people think.

This is the main reason. It feels really good to listen and to see what other participants, I baptised them as "CHORDIANS". I have to admit, that my knowledge is improving.

Thanks

I didn't think to have such an amount of answers.

Yes there also other famous dead artists, I saw LYNARD SKYNARD, same thing: JOHN DENVER, STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, THE PLANE WITH BUDDY HOLLY, RICHIE VALENS, THE BIG BOPPER, all died in a plain crash - ELVIS PRESLEY, addicted on too much "drugs" both legal and illegal. I know also a lot concerning this problem, because I had a very good, big source: my profession. I might be create a topic CONCERNING drug USE + drug ABUSE

I still want TO KNOW WHY IN MOST OF THE CASES, THAT ARTISTS ARE SELLING, AND EARNING THE MONEY, GOING HAND IN HAND WITH THE RECORD SALES. Strange fact: a lot of them wheren't still yet SUPERSTARS. Even JIMI HENDRIX wasn't at that time, and to be more specific, in the USA. That's why he spend so much time in England, where they saw his talent. Combine talent with the LENGHT OF HIS FINGERS: they where very long, he could reach and use chords, where other guitar players dreamed of this. I am not kidding, he had real very long fingers. He also scared some people with a solid guitar name, CLAPTON, PAGE, BECK and others. Same thing with JANIS JOPLIN, she was known, but not that much, and I have to say, they started to have a name, in the WOODSTOCK concert in '69.

BUT THE BIG MONEY CAME FROM VERY, VERY HIGH RECORDS SALE

and THIS IS SOMETHING I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Who, meaning "chordians" has a theory or a ratial suspicion?.

I like THE WORD " CHORDIANS", of course derived from CHORDIE, is it a nice word moderators?

There are guitar players, playing quit clean, but with the speed of sound. I don't need "the BEST player"

One of the fastest world wide guitar players is for sure: Yngwie MALMSTEEN. In the same speed category, we can probably add, Joe BONAMASSA. And last but not least MICHAEL ANGELO

Has anybody experience with "speed"players, VAI is ok and Satriani, but this topic is about speed.

This song performed by the beach boys, should be a straight copy of or problably better a cover of chuck berry's sweet little sixteen.

Talking about chuck, the well known beatlessong "come together" is a copy of "you can't catch me" by chuck berry, even better: The beatles hit "back in the ussr" is also from a berry song, named "back to the USA"

I forgot one thing, go to the artist/songside on chordie, look for the song something, add or transpose the song you see, starting here with C, with -3 semitones, and you will see what I wrote you

You know that I always liked to be a lawyer, but I choosed finaly to become a medical doctor, you know my dad was a doctor...

But I should have studied for lawyer, following evening classes to learn all about music, notes and as instrument guitar and piano. After the combination studies, I wanted to go to a "music univesity, and more specific popmusic. You can go to Oxford, I know they have that kind of University, because I saw it. After my "OXFORD period, I wanted to go to the USA, to have a special degree, isn't it a masterdegree? which would have cost me another 2 or 3 years. Having all these certificates, be sure that you get and very fast, the occasion to be contacted by major record companies, having a high and very well paid position. More, I even think that a job like this don't exist at this moment, if you see the years you have to go to all those colleges, in Belgium, 5 years to become a lawyer, add 3 more years before you can defend someone, add all the years you follow music class, 8 years in total here, TO BECOME REALLY the best, also arrangements and all things (legal or illegal) related to music. I do play, quit good, the guitar. The piano should be my second choice, why? a lot of songs are composed on a piano, see chordie songs: Elton John, Billy Joel, it is very easy to see if a song is composed on piano, or on guitar. Even the beatles, the more they were busy, the more complex there songs became. Add, besides those 8 years, 2 or 3 years in Oxford, and to be the most complete music lawyer, another 2-3 years for, is it bachelor master's degree in music. Grand total: if you don't need to start over a year will be around 12 to 15 years of study. MONEY ????

You need to live too, maybe you can find in between jobs as a studio musician. And all this was my dream. I am 51 years old, so not for me. The only thing I know is, having studied so long, and certainly if you are good, has to, because of all the years you spend, I am convinced that 1) you can play almost with every group 2) you will be asked for sure to worgk for big record companies 3) you are the perfect match to be manager for top groups, having the extra ability to play together with them. But you will be about 32 years old and than you still have to start

I have a friend, who is a few years ago, for the organisation to protect copyrights. I don't know where you live, but I think that it will be not so different. That friend has already given his song to this organisation, but 5 years ago, you did trabslate your song at least in the chords you used and even more, and taking a lot of time, transpose the song in "notes", you know, the type of sheet, where every single note is written on, and of course also the lyrics. He is one of my best friends, and he told me that even if I change the lyrics entirely into my lyrics, silly example, in stead of Bob Dylan's song, Blowin' in the wind, I write the question my girl is singing in the sun, that I will get money for this, but that I have to pay a lot to the original writer of the original lyrics. I don't know how much it costs, but once you are a member of that society, I think that if you write your own tunes with or without lyrics, it is always better to handle the song to them for copyrights (valable 70 years here) At this very moment, some smart musicians, make there own version of a bliues song, to name one, from 1930. You will be amazed how easy, at least for me, how easy it is to 1) try to play along and 2) once the tune is in your head to modifie the song, shake it and melt it in a new costume.

I was told, and I looked around for a long time on the internet and reading, that when you see the prices of GIBSON LP STANDARD 58-60 are so high because of some "authorities in vintage guitars", drive up the prices.

If you take a genuine fender strat from the beginning up to the so called pre-factory fenders, that at this time it is the best investment you can make. Prices between 20.000$ and 70.000$ are prices you can see, more specific on eBay: JUST TO BUY A PIECE OF WOOD with simple mechanics and strings

I think that, if the finger position is as described, a chord used in a lot of songs is A Maj 7. You can use it as start chords in the song "something" by george harrisson.

Just to show an example, I try to write it down

It starts with a classic A chord (I used F for Finger)

E  A  D  G   B   E

___________________

x  x  F  F  F  x  = plain A chord Second fret

x  x  x  F  x  x

x  x  F  x  F  x  = this is I think the chord you wanted.

to continue the "something" chords, you go to A7

x  x  F  x  F  x = A7 chord.

Don't forget you can start using other chords or keys to play a song like SPOMETHING, but I am convinced that the chord you tried to find is A Maj 7

I just am interessed in a few things. You can buy a gibson flying V, faded, for NON gibson prices. But I know one thing, I have a Flying V, diffucult to play when sitting, and a Gibson SG Menace: also for about 700$, and also naked wood, no special treatement with products to make this guitar very beautiful, using a product, one of the main components is "polyurethan", and let it dry. I had the occasion to see this procedure in the Memphis Tenessee Gibson plant, where the hollowbodies are made, like the 335, or 175. It is more difficult than I tought and they use basily the same procedure when they put a color on a car. In a special room, they do it, they refinish the guitar, and it was in my eyes the most crucial treatment to make a beautiful shiny guitar.

I THINK THAT THIS PROCEDURE HAS TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE, resulting in 2 questions.

- Would my flying V and menace should sound better if a professional luthier, works on this guitar, giving her that special treatment.

- Is that procedure SO important, of course, not talking about the wood, that it will give your guitar another sound, or will the sound stay the same?

I love this answer. I know a lot about this subject, because I did use while, when working. The variety was going from, he so called Benzodiazepines, like valium, up to amphetamines because I "taught that I needed it, to take in the morning, to have a head or brain that worked better, because I worked so hard. I also used to drink, the limit here is now 0,5 pro mille, but 15 years ago it was 0,8 promille. I could say I am proud because they never catched me. I knew all police officers, very good, was even for a longtime medical for the police, and in that time It was like "pill or drugheaven" for me. We got al this, irresponsable stuff, for free as samples. I am NOT at all proud of this part of my life, I told they never catched me: WHY: Because I knew the effects of combination different kinds, and after a few drinks, you were mostly still functioning, almost nobofy saw it and if they asked something about my eyes or behaviour, I told them that I was to tired. The thing with drugs is that in my case I could take 50 times more than compared to the average. I know so much about this subject, consequences, and stopping (never in hospital), sometimes with "cold turkey", if on holiday. Finally I realised that I messed up my life, my EGO, my family relations, only a very few patients knew this. I have to admit, if you put an alcoholic in a bar, very easy to styart again. In my case the same. But I am VERY PROUD that I was able to turn this BAD thing into a GOOD thing because I could share my experience with my patients, and I am also proud that about 20 patients stopped after being followed by me. I want to write a book about this problem, I am sitting here every day, because of sequels of an accident, and I wrote one about depression. I can go on for hours, so if you, reading this, and you recognise yourself don't hesitate to send me a personal email, I know what I did and because of this, I know what to do. This was not so easy to write, but if I can help 1/100 people it is worth to have written this.

I love topics, you can learn so much on this fenomenal CHORDIESITE, I mean it, I don't know how to thank the people behind chordie. You find a lot of information, you can share your opinion, and I am not talking about the songs and the transposing with semi-tones.

2 topics.

- there are more people with a limited budget, than people who don't have to worry, spending money to buy a guitar.

That is the reason I have 2 lists, each with 5 guitars, but you are welcome to add more. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS AND WILL BE, YOU SHOULD TRY OUT IN "ONE" DAY THOSE GUITARS and to COMPARE them. I agree, you can not compare a Porsche with a VW Beetle,(but what you can do is make a list, with the expensive cars you like) and thje cheaper cars you like) So my topic is about guitars you own, your expensive dream guitars, and probably more realistic, what guitar should I purchase under 500$. Don't forget Martin has a affordable guitar, dark brown, model D-15. Don't remember the price. 700$ I think. Don't be afraid to buy on eBay, the only problem is the 0,1% of bad people. But that uyou can avoid: see eBay.

List 1: expensive guitars, which are the best. I have myself 2 brands. A specification, like HD-28 or D-45 NOT

1) Martin

2) Collings

3) Taylor

4) Gibson

5) Santa Cruz. (musicians who play in fingerpicking style prefer this one.

6) All the beautiful and very good guitars I forgot, like Lowden, or a handmade guitar for you. The market value of a personal guitar: no clue!!

You have after this the range between 500$ and 1500$, like takamine, used a lot, not too expensive, but already starting to move towards the more expensive, you see them a lot (endorsement is pushing up the prices), Ovation. Do also remember, that you add at least 500$ for the "brandname", and especially, the kind of wood they use. One of the most expensive guitars on the market is the MARTIN D-50 K2 Deluxe with a price around 45.000$

VERY GOOD ACOUSTICS BETWEEN 100$ and 500$.I will try to add price ranges, and I AM NOT ENDORSED or CONTAZCTED BY BRANDS (it is a pity, they should do it.)

- Seagull (between 350 and 450$

- yamaha F310 Jumbo: 150$, revieuws say that this is a very good price/quality, special for starters, or (amateur) musicians, who do not play professional, or prefer electrics. It seems a very good guitars for beginners.

- washburn D10S: 250$, described as the best selling acoustic, and a great guitar for this price, having a very clean sound, just like their expensive collueges.

- Ibanez IJV50: price around 100$, and it seems to be again a very good guitar, with a ridicul low price.

- Rogue RA-100D Dreadnought: 80$, comments are also very postive, it has a genuine spruce top, and even active musicians use this guitar.

- Epiphone acoustics going from 80$ (WITH A LOT OF POSITIVE REVIEUWS)to 300$ for the hummingbird and dove,to the Jumbo EJ-200 350$.

- Dean: electro-acoustic between 250-300$.

What SHOULD I DO: I should try more the brand, acoustic epiphone, because of the price range, between 80$ up to $500, and that brand of guitar is popular, meaning that you will find it in a lot of musicstores, to try out.

Don't forget the line 6, variax acoustic, more specific the 700, more expensive, more than 1000$, but easy to play, and containing a lot of acoustic guitar sounds.

For an acoustic amp: take a look, BEHRINGER and CRATE.

And when you buy an acoustic, please take one with a 100W capacity. I have a Marshall 100w acoustic amp, also VERY useful to plug your electric guitar in and you will be amazed with the crystal clear sound.

More info: surf to the different on-line music stores, to have a better idea for your guitar.

I DO HOPE THAT THIS TOPIC IS USEFUL, I really took a lot of time to create this.

I agree, and the mushroom thing is a very good example of comparision. Don't forget, a donkey will not become a racehorse, so if you think you are a great musician, of course a lot of people think this, I just mean that if you play not very good, there are always (probably the majority) people who blame the guitar, so they buy an expensive one, convinced that they will play better, but the only thing that will sound better, indeed, are the mistakes. That's the reason why I prefer, when you start playing, the acoustic guitar.

Well, you gave me an, idea, I will quick add a new topic, concerning the best acoustic guitars, but if you or me create this topic, we need maybe MORE IMPORTANT, a topic about cheap, but good acoustic guitars.

This topic is in the line of plagiarism and yet it is completely different. You play music very fluent, you are travelling with a small recording device, why? because you are a musician and inspiration doesn't depend on time.

You see a few, poor people, playing and singing on the street,; you record a few songs, and finally you make a song from the stuff you recorded, on a trip, played by those people. BEST EXAMPLE: the WORLDWIDE HIT: THE MACARENA, selling millions of records. The street musicians listening to the radio, hear THEIR song, and I am pretty shure that a situation like this happens more than you think, even without a recording device, because of that "catchy" tune that stays, a lot even unconscious, in your head. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS PROBLEM, HOW TO SOLVE IT, HOW TO PROTECT it, because often those street musicians don't have rights on their song. I KNOW THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT ONE, you only have 7 major chords, and even years later, often triggered by another song, you have that tune again. Why triggered: start telling jokes, alone you will remember maybe 5 jokes, but in company you will remember 10 times more jokes.

Well I see a lot of songs I even don't know. That was also the most important reason for this topic. It is very easy to find the best ballads, go google, put: best ballads all time, and you will have a complete list.

But I asked it because of taste and personal mood, not a top 15, those you find everywhere. I liked it but I have seen that already at least 20 songs, I know maybe 10 of them, of artists I don't know one single note.

I live in Belgium, we have a national institute to bring your song in, purpose: Proving that you (or the band) and only you have written a song. By multiple factors, your song sells millions of copies, you have a decent contract, or receive one, suggestion, take always 1 or 2 lawyers when you sign that contract.(see John Fogerty, the man was probably to "euforic", signing with FANTASY, they get probably paid a lot of money at that time, but they forgot, probably to read also the small letters. Result, NO RIGHT TO PERFORM SINGING CCR SONGS. Finally, since a couple of years, he can sing these songs again. His company now: FANTASY RECORDS. They must have given him a very special contract, especially after what happened.

What and how, are the rules for, maybe the best choice here is a "coverband" or a "tribute band", no records, no CD's just performing for sometimes a lot of people. They can mix it with their own songs. Who and what kind of rights do they have, and how to control it?.

Do me a favour, something else but very related to this topics, look for a band called THE RUTLES, a super good movie, very good songs: members: MONTHY PYTHON. If you have songs of these guys, you will be convinced that this are REAL BEATLES SONGS, never before on the market.

It is amazing. I just wanted to know, again, if they are violating laws, they just did this as a kind of respect, but really a complete parody, on the beatles, the songs the hype, the screaming women. GO FIND THE RUTLES.

well, Ken I am not so sure about that. There many artists, who are breaking the law. TAKE the SONG: MY WAY.

Originally written by a French singer/writer/performer with the title: comme d'habitude. The translation into English was done by Paul Anka I think, but I do not know if they had to pay money for the rights, for the music YES, for the lyrics: no clue, but I still think that you don't have to pay at that moment for lyrics. A song can be either only music, better "instrumental", or existing, classic form: music AND lyrics. The point is that I really don't know 1 thing about it, maybe laws are different in the different countries. One thing I do know, you can contact the artist, manager, but most important: the international or national company where you have to give your songs, often even translated in notes and/or chords, same with lyrics, and where you get the rights. That is the main reason I wrote this topic. Maybe the song "MY WAY" is the best song to discover how it works. I think of songs, very famous now, that you can make an agreement with the record company, about how much. A very sad example is JOHN FOGERTY, who wasn't even allowed to play 1 song from the CCR period, even a new song "the old man down the road" seemed to have enough similarity to pursue him. By the way, if you here Susie-Q (written by screaming J Hawkins) and listen to the song green river, very similar. I have an old PETER GREEN period, Fleetwood Mac CD, I thought, sh** I have this song twice, but after 1 minute only, you could hear that it was another song.

In fact that is what I tought, I think that David was maybe not present, on the first album, but after a while they played all together, because of the instability of their so called friend Syd. And the drug part: My profession is being a Medical Doctor and it is only when, a healthy person takes drugs, like LSD for years, that he can suffer from braindamage. But if your mind is already very instable: STAY AWAY from LSD. That can accelerate the process very fast.

I do agree 100%, but still I like the sound of these guitars. But I am 100% sure that somewhere out there, there are brands who sound super.

Very, very hard at first, but better now, THANKS TO 3 THINGS.

1)I ask myself everytime to find a decent answer, about the "famous Gibson Les Paul Standard produced in 1958, 1959 and 1960. The price of 1 guitar is at this moment, for a guitar in a more or less good shape, between 150.000$ and 250.000$, you will have more succes if you buy with that money an Astor Martin. There were some new things: PAF humbuckers.

2) What about a reissue of these models, same material, also equiped with PAF's, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN SOUND?

while you don't see those guitars, between the original 1959 and the reissue 1959.

I am really in a topic mood today, you can't imagine how I enjoy this, being disabled after a car crash, to hear and to inform what other people think. I admit to have plenty of time, to create topics, and tell/ask stuff concering music.

What is at this time, I will complete this, when you should have enough money, THE acoustic Guitar.

Taylor, a brand I don't have, better than Martin?

Santa Cruz, Gibson Acoustics, and a lot more, like a luthier who made an acoustic guitar special for you.

Most important question, and I hope to reveive a lot of opinions, is WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN a HUMMINGBIRD, made by Gibson, so the "real thing" compared to the Epiphone Hummingbird, much cheaper. I went already to a few big music stores, they sell Gibsons Acoustic guitars, but no Epiphones, except the Epiphone LP standard for instance. I am really curious to know what you answer.

Gibson Hummingbird and Epiphone Hummingbird have the same wood, they look like twins: so what makes the difference, price excluded. Also the same thing with the Gibson SJ 200

compared with the Epiphone EJ200, they look so similar, and if you read comments, like harmony central, some people say: EPIPHONE EJ200, others GIBSON SJ200
