Isn't the saying, "buy the best guitar that you can afford because you are going to have it for a long time"?  I don't know Pete, this comes down to finances and personal opinion.  I know I can't afford a really expensive guitar right now, and I know that when I was shopping my price range last time was up to $300... I didn't like the guitars that were available close to the $300 range, and ended up with one under $200 because I liked it.  NOW, if my price range had been $500 or $1000 or more... I'm sure I would have gotten a much better guitar than what I picked even if I wasn't completely "ready" for it.  Soooooo.... hmmmm.... I'm not much help.  LOL!

Well, actually I set the webcam up like that because I was using it to video chat with him while he's out of town.  When in video chat, I can see him and myself (or the kids can see themselves).  The typical settings weird me out... I guess because I'm so used to looking at myself in a mirror.  When the kids are video chatting they tend to get too absorbed in what they look like (he's on a slow connection so he freezes up, they are going to stare at themselves instead of him) instead of talking and I have found that the mirror image helps.  I was considering switching it for the video so that I didn't look "backwards"... but I found that while I was doing the video being able to see myself as a mirror image actually helped with not having to stare at the neck so much as I could see it in the camera playing on my computer screen.

Mind you, when I say I'm used to seeing myself in a mirror image that doesn't mean I stare at myself all day long in the mirror... but I kind of do.  I'm a cosmetologist and I generally am standing behind a person doing their hair while we are both facing the mirror.  I use the mirror as a tool and can work as well looking through a mirror as I can straight on.  Putting that image in the standard form and trying to look at it while video taping is "foreign" to me.

I didn't mean to make myself look left handed sad

When I was young asking a million questions my dad would say to me, "Curiosity killed the cat" ... and as a teenager I began to reply to him, "but satisfaction brought him back!"

Jim, thank you for sharing that with us.  Your playing is coming along very nicely... you have good rhythm too!  Your voice also goes along really nicely with the guitar!  Just keep on getting better!

Jim - I'm glad it appeared to be effortless!  LOL!  Some of those chords were actually a little tricky for me (and if you listen close, you'll hear it!).  There's also a Bm and a B7 in there that I fiddled my way through on the bridge - THANK GOODNESS only ONE of each! ha ha!

Toots - You are so sweet.  The hubster was very happy with it.  He says I rock.  LOL!  As for my Dad... It could be a week before I talk to him again, but we'll see what he has to say smile

StranSongs - I think there's another type of welder too for aluminum (which he is qualified in).  I'll have to do a little metallurgy research and see if I can toss some reference into a song I'm working on for him!  That's a good idea!  And you are VERY correct;  I will be complaining about the middle of next week!  It's harder to fall asleep at night without him here, but boy do I wake up more rested without someone draping their big heavy leg across me all night!

I really like this, and can see it (hear it) as a song.  Great job!!

Very nice story... and strange that you would think of that as an explanation.  lol  It's times like these that I almost think I'm blessed that my 5 year old is yelling in the middle of the night in her sleep instead of waking up from nightmares.  At least she doesn't remember it in the morning.

wink  Thanks guys!

Stran - When he and I first got together he worked out of town all the time.  He hasn't been gone like this in a few years.  He helps train apprentices at the Union Hall (Ironworker) some weekends when he's not tattooing, so the hall sent him for personal development and welding classes.  YES... a week IS a long time!  I think the first few days were the worst.  It's all downhill from here... 2 more days till he's home!

I have some lovely Ocean front property in Arizona for sale if anyone is interested... just forward me your social security number, and copy of your drivers license, and ...

I get offers like yours all the time Russell.  I am constantly winning the "email lotto" or some lotto in another country, or someone has decided to name me as a beneficiary and their will was just read.  Yup... gotta love it.  I prefer my spam fried in a sandwich with cheese than in my inbox!  lol

Okie Dokie... so my husband is out of town for the week, so I became determined to finally get this song recorded and uploaded for him (he does have his laptop along).  So this is his request, and good lyrics for me right now because I'm missing him something terrible!

I have to say, I wish he was going away in another month instead of now.  I could really have used another month to work on this one!  ha ha!  I think I may have distracted the buzzing strings and goof ups just enough with the video effects however... so... enjoy!

DM, very very smooth sound.  I don't think I'd describe it any differently.  That actually makes me want to pick up an electric!  Congrats on that purchase my friend (and successful install as well).  I think you have a winner there for sure, and to top it off, it looks super slick!

whoops, that was me.  My son forgot to sign out and I wasn't paying attention big_smile

Wow DM!  Of course, I don't know much of much about electrics, but that's a very unique looking pick up there.  I'll bet there's not to many folks with anything quite like it.  Very cool, custom made.  Can't wait to hear the sound!  smile  CONGRATS on your new PU day!  LOL!

phrases such as 'light ash' and 'tea rose' and 'rosso corsa' are shades of colours by the way

This makes a BIG difference in understanding - and what about "est-ry"?

BEAUTIFUL lyrics!  Listening again, this makes a huge difference with having the words in front of me.  Just wonderful!!  smile  Thank you for sharing!

Hi!  It is a little easier to understand, I think my only issue now is your accent sad  NOT that it's a bad thing, I'm just such a NY gal.  I have issues understanding southern USA accents a lot of the time too.  I think some of the words I'm not understanding are probably because they are actually words that aren't used here in the US on a regular basis.  I heard "cheeky smile" as an example of a phrase not used here (but I get what it means).  Since this is an original song, you can post the lyrics here on the forums!  If you feel inclined, you could even type out the chords to go with it and make it all pretty (with chopro formatting) and print it out for your love and for others to try their hand at playing and singing too.  I really love the progression and the chorus really sticks in my head!

Bananas (along with a bunch of other fruits) can bother people with latex allergies unless they are extremely ripe (or cooked).  That could have been Dame Vera Lynne's problem.

So sorry to see this Roger! I am really surprised to hear the answers here though.  I wouldn't have thought glue would be strong enough to hold that with all the tension of 6 strings.  Wow!  Good to know guys.  I hope the solution you use works well for you (much better suggestions than duct tape, which would have been my answer lol)

StranSongs - this hits home right at this very minute.  My husband is out of town for a week.  I went out and bought a webcam and he took his laptop with him so we (the kids and I ) could still "see" him.  It's better than just talking on the phone, but at the same time so much worse as I think it makes us miss him that much more by being able to see him but no Daddy kisses or hugs.  Very well written~!!~  Thank you for this one!

Wonderfully written Lena, it tells a sad tale with sorrow and heart.  You are amazing to be able to put this into words that convey the true evil of the best in just a few short lines.

I LOVE that song!

Butch, that is the reason why I don't like electrics so much.  Every time I pick up my husband's, I inevitably mess with everything until it ends up sounding as much acoustic as I can get it (without realizing that's what I'm doing)... then I set it down, say I'm sorry for messing with all his settings and pick up my acoustic instead.  LOL!  Try position 4 or 5... turn the volume on the guitar down, and the tone down... then on the amp you can control the volume and you'll want to keep the midrange dialed down compared to the bass and treble.  As for playing and singing like Dwight Yoakam... a six pack should help your perceptions!  LOL!

I did get an error on the first one, but the last link took me there... then just click on his name to go to his channel and you can view the others.  FANTASTIC sound from that unit... they are awesome Wayne.  I'm sure you must have walked away from that with TONS of inspiration!

Ok, I took mekidsmom's advice and went to justinguitar.com (THANK YOU!). I like his style. I have been following the beginner lessons for about 2 weeks now and I see marked improvement, even over where I was last November. One of my goals is to play one song as well as my father does, so that I can play along with him. My previous goal was to play with him, which I reached last October when I went to visit him in Maine. He is self taught and some of my best memories as a kid are listening to my father play the guitar with our family singing along with the lyrics. My wife and I are going to adopt a baby and I hope to pass this tradition along to our children.

Many of you are probably now saying, crawl before walk, walk before you run, run before you run long distances. I have some high goals, but I will to acheive them in good time. I have applied Justin's lessons to learning one of the songs my father taught me and I am seeing some progress there as well. It adds a couple concepts like transition chords (Technically called a filler I think), and changing a chord to allow for the chords I already know (using A instead of A7). Thank you all once again for your encouragement. I appreciate it. I hope to pop in here more often in the future to chat with you all and update you on my status.

Caromshot, this is GREAT!  I was a bit concerned you were going to give up, I'm thrilled to hear that my advice has helped you out!  When I started last year, my goal was just to be able to play a couple songs at the campfire the following summer (that's THIS summer!!).  At the time, it was the last party of the season and it felt like my Dad wasn't going to be able to play anymore.  I have similar memories as you, and I couldn't "live with the thought" of no more guitars at the campfire.  While I felt like I was taking a big leap maybe trying to fill his shoes, what happened was I actually encouraged him to play more!  Now my father and I will BOTH have our guitars out this year!  I can't compare to him... yet I can now appreciate even more what he's capable of, he's proud of what I've learned and encourages me to do more, and we have something new in common to talk about and be excited about together.  Music sure is fun when you can share it with someone you love, someone who understands and can appreciate what you're doing!

So, I think a goal is great to have... and once you reach that goal you can make another and keep reaching forward.  Enjoy your journey!

It does show Wayne!  You look happy, relaxed and in love smile  I agree, summer is a great time to just enjoy and be outdoors.  I keep saying I'm going to record something soon, although usually when I find a little time I just end up sitting on the porch picking my guitar rather than set everything up to record.  Take your time and enjoy the weather while it's here!

Hi Whannah, and welcome to the forums.  Actually, there is a text search option on the Artists page, and you can search by song name there as well as by artist name.  I hope that little trick helps you out!
