Well Cytania, here I am. I tried it once myself and it took me hours, regulating the amps, and it is possible, but it's not easy. Hendrix started as a very shy and modest guitar player, who turned into one of the most famous guitar player. BUT LOOK his fingers, they are 50% longer than my fingers.
I think that's why he could play better and more difficult pieces. A couple of 100 years ago, there was the virtuosity of PAGANINI, he had very long fingers and still now, there are pieces of music nobody can play, but and here is "the doc" again, he suffered from a disease known as the syndrome of Marfan, look on the web for the disease, but one of the major symptoms were very long fingers. I don't know about Hendrix. I just know that the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, could play almost the same songs ( best Hendrix songs) like the master himself, and concerning the tooth-thing, I think he could do it, but more as show, meaning certainly not a nice melody

When you start playing guitar, you play to learn and learn to play. If you know even only 3-4 chords, learning chords is in my opinion more learning HOW??? than from the heart. First the techniques followed by your guitar play. BUT once I am playing, even a cover: right from the heart. Sometimes you can hear a "very sterile song", just compare a song like "without you.
Harry Nilsson's performance, better tormented performance is a good example, and what almost nobody knows this song is written and performed by BADFINGER, but the Nilsson cover was on the market a couple of months later and you can hear very clear that this song is deep from the heart. The last famous version was performed by Withney Houston (I am not sure for 100%) and to my ears it is NOT AT ALL a good performance, if you compare it with Nilsson. It is not from the heart, more a little or big excersise for the vocal chords. If you love to play guitar, you will automatic play straight from the heart. I am just asking myself: rolling stones, are they still playing from the heart? or the REUNION tours, like the police, heart or wallet? anyway there is something I don't like

I read a few times: CHRISTIAN ROCK, and also BADFINGER HAS A CHRISTIAN rock album.
I don't see this kind of music here, so I am very interested in this kind of music, and if possible some names of songs (I prefer more famous songs, because the chances are better that I have heard that "music stream'

Well, I am glad to have so many reactions, and I think still, putting the ages on a graphic paper that we have the age I tought, I PREFER TO BE YOUNGER, BUT WITH THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS I HAVE NOW. "wishful thinking".
I hope we can help everybody, in our way, by giving advise. This is an important fact for everybody. I am sure that even guitar players, playing maybe for 40 years will learn, even very young guitar players did add information, I read and I use.
I HAVE ONLY 1 QUESTION: IS LEARNING MUSIC, PLAYING, READING NOTES IN THE USA INCLUDED IN THE EDUCATION, LIKE SCHOOL, COLLEGE, OR IS IT FREE. They should teach every student to read notes and play an instrument. I do regret I didn't, and now, having time...

Go see a concert: "the rolling stones", yes THE STONES. Or watch it on dvd.
Although they are playing for centuries, it takes at least 15 minutes before they don't play together in an harmonious way. When they start with "start me up" Jagger will always sing start me up to soon, to late and or false. And KEITH "RIFF" RICHARDS is not longer the super guitar player, since he felt down from that tree in 2006. Still, (I love the music) I have an admiration for those guys. Who among all the chordians has not a relative around 63 years old, sitting the whole day in a chair: it is amazing the way JAGGER still jumps and is running on stage. I am convinced that every gig he is producing so much adrenalin to do this. I know, from standing on stage behind the curtains in front of a crowd like 100.000 people, that I get as non player the same adrenalin shot (probably not that strong) and I admit that seeing and feeling it, seeing so many people in "fire" for their idols, it affects you entirely, even so strong that you start dreaming and thinking: I wish it was all for me.
I just tasted it several times, and I swear the feeling you experience is impossible to write it down in a correct way.

I would rather say, blues is easy to feel, but difficult to play.
Listening music: 'till December 2004, I listened at least 10 CD's in a week, driving. This is finished now, but I like a lot of different kinds, depending on my mood. I can switch from Metallica to the Bee Gees

When I play guitar, together with a friend, we always have a discussion, concerning putting your fingers in a certain position. I know a significant number of chords, but I don't have "Jimi Hendrix" fingers, so some chords are not easy to take. But our discussion is always concerning chords like C  D  E, he takes these chords using a different setting of his fingers, and he can not understand why I take the same chords with another position, different finger setting.
Maybe he is right, but when you play at least 25 years you take the chords like it is more easy for the player. It is sometimes difficult to take chords, like Adim7 for instance. But for every even very difficult chord you can find a similar chord that is less difficult to take.
Practising is the name, and not because you have a guitar since yesterday, everyone wants to play the same day, so chord 1 then chord 2 ...
The hardest chords you will find in jazz, sometimes in blues, and to be honest, a lot of times in a song, you can try that difficult chord, but like I wanted to tell, you can skip them often. But for me the most difficult songs to play are 50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER (PAUL SIMON) and QUEEN with BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, very difficult chords.

I have paid for a very good 'music download" site, having the cd already. And it is certainly not bad.

There are of course other instruments to compose like piano. Someone wrote conga and drums, I like to know how this works in "musiclife". I did write too that you can be inspired by a lot of things, CONCERNING RYTHM, like sitting on the train, and try to remember this rythm and converting into a song.

Where is THE WHO??? tatatalk about my generation: if this is not VERY "heavy metal" style, I don't know it anymore. I do agree 100% with the musicians I could read in this topic.
Has somebody heard the music of the easybeats? You can't say for 100%: this is heavy metal? You can put some songs in this category, but they fit maybe better in hard rock, which bring me to the question: what is "today" the difference between hardrock and heavy metal?
Metal is a word that contains too the sub-categories: trash, death, nu metal, in this kind of music, the singer sings with a voice sounding like deep, more shouting than singing, like sepultura.

Bob Dylan blues, the song, I have this somewhere on my PC, and it is really strange that he tries so hard to "imitate" Bob Dylan.
I paid for "limewire pro" and it is unbelievable the songs you can find, I found about 6 songs of the charlie watts quintet, jazz with a big J

I am glad for all the answers, people (singers) I don't know, well I make it easy for myself, I look on the internet.
The question was like written pop-rock-metal. Why metal, I like the style and it can calm me down, or a ballad: same thing and my preference is, not the "sweet voiced ballad groups, but if you hear a song like "more than words" by EXTREME, and you discover the other songs, same thing with Guns&Roses: November Rain, Knocking on heavens door, listen to the voice, like axl or not, but you can't tell that his voice is bad. He can sing a lot of things. I just ask myself how they take care of their voice, especially with the lifestyle of some of them.

I have downloaded (paid for it about 19,50$) the 100 greatest guitar solos.
I agree, it is only a list with "of course Led Zeppelin, Queen and other famous guitar players, like ERUPTION by Eddie VAN HALEN.
I have to admit that half of them, I don't know.
But it is very interesting, there are other lists, top 10 is not that different from the 100 greatest.
ADVANTAGE: I do not find this list in on line buying programs, but it is worth to look it up, especially for young and older guitar players.
It is a very good list and like always, to give us an even better idea, they should make a top 500 ranking. Weither you like it or not: IT IS AN OFFICIAL LIST, in total I used more or less 10 CD's.
Probably you can buy them too.

you are right, I didn't think on "the mood".
Sometimes when I feel down, I like to listen to mellow songs, like bee gees,(their harmony)cools me off, or metallica and stuff: no line. I have a lot of songs, none on paper, I should like to have a 10gig device as big as the biggest coin, you can stick on every guitar, the guitar takes the vibrations, you know that your riff 5' ago was the best, but.... difficult to play "that" riff again. If you have it you can save it on PC using a USB, and you need a program to change your notes into mp3 or wav

DON't GET ON THAT PLANE! An artist like PHIL COLLINS perrformed twice on the same day for LIVE AID, but the plane is also responsable for some of the greatest losses of popular music.
Glen Miller  Buddy Holly   The Big Bopper  Richie Valens  Patsy Cline   Jim Reeves  Otis Redding   Jim Croce  Ronnie van Zandt& Steve Gaines (Lynyrd Skynyrd)  Rickie Nelson  John "I'm leaving on a jetplane" denver    Aaliyah   in a helicoptercrash: Stevie Ray Vogan

dear mr E, the platte rivier I know is in South Africa, my all time favorite country.
Are you from there?
Or are you music reporter, or reporter, or writer of books?
I got a beautiful "JOBAGREEMENT" being MD on a cruiseline, starting in the Carribean, but finally rejected: "there might be some medical issues" probably when they contacted my hospital, because I had just written in my CV that I had got a very bad car crash, a vertebra is exploded and 32 fractures in my left foot, this was a dream coming reality and ended at the end in a nightmare. I still live can "walk?" and drive. But I miss my beautiful trips in the USA, here in EUROPE, South Africa. At least I was able to do them, because memories like this are forever in your head.

WISER or BUDWEISER.
If you look at the age of the members, I expected more younger "kids" but on the other hand the age 40-50 was the age I was thinking of.
You can easy "spot" experienced people, and for everybody, 14y - 77y (if you don't have arthrosis in your fingers) we can teach eachother.
The topic itself looks a bit funny, who doesn't like fun, I didn't expect so many answers, but the topic is important, for almost everyone, concerning gitar, acoustic & electric.
Is it possible to add next to guitars, a piano or syntheziser, also about effect processing, homerecording, because here the older chordian can learn from the youngsters

I have 3 main brands:
- PRS = Dr P
- GIBSON = Gibbie
- MARTIN= Martini's

I realise already a longtime that, concerning songwriting, you have a lot of "things" you can use. I rememberd me one day, I think in a themapark, like DISNEY, I adored the noise of a little train, and just the rythm was so inspiring, that I went back on the same attraction (I have priority, because of being disabled after a car crash) and I recorded it with a cellphone, the rythm and because I had a good recording, I used it to "create" a song ON GUITAR.
But what I wanted to say, that I like to know more or less the % of using the electric or acoustic guitar to write a song. As I told, I have a big opportunity that I live and own a "STAND ALONE" house, and I am able to play VERY, VERY loud electric guitar. Being alone, not in a group, I use at what I call my electric period, a small device: a KORG PANDORA TONE WORKS PX4D for electric guitar, because getting a correct rytm, because you have a bass and drum loops, even more funny with all the possible guitareffects.
On the other hand: I love to sit in front of my PC, and like to play along with existing numbers, and just my acoustic guitar and me and chordie.

I wrote about the fact if it was possible to create a new index-topic: spinal tap histories, concerning "bloopers" if this is the right word, I mean stupid thins, or funny things, like a drummer who falls down, caused by a bad chair in the middle of a gig, AND secondly, silly facts stories, like the story of the name of a group, like fleetwood mac especially, the sexual escapades in case Jeremy Spencer, who braught a lot of trouble in the group, by having relations with women of other members. A kind of everything you always wanted to know, but didn't dare to ask

SHOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO OPEN A NEW TOPIC, CONCERNING "funny" things, things you can't believe but happened?

Already nice, but I forgot 1 thing
- the ones playing acoustic to write a song, a minority starts composing immediatly on electric.
I exclude piano or synthezir
