Good luck, Good luck, Good luck!  Stare into the bright lights, then you will be temporarily blinded and won't be able to see all the people and their presence won't bother you!  LOL!  Just be careful not to fall off any stage and actually "break a leg" while blinded!  SAD part about this is, as funny as my suggestion is, it actually does work!  (Of course, a drink or two might not hurt... but not too many or you run that risk again of possibly falling off the stage.)

Yup, used to HATE realplayer... but now, it loads fast (faster than windows media player, itunes, and even Quicktime)... you can drag and drop your own video or sound clips into it and they'll play right away... no long wait to load.  That's on top of the free downloading of vids.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread Zurf!!

Well, anyway.  That's life.  Nothing good comes without something annoying to go with it, and just about everything annoying blesses someone somehow.

So VERY TRUE!

Yeah well to add insult to injury... I did a lot of searching online today about this, and come to find out that you can't do a cover anywhere without a license to do so from the copyright holder of the song.  Well, you can in your home with your friends and family... but not in a park where the "public" can hear it for free, or online anywhere (free or paid), Yup, all those bands doing covers in bars are technically illegal (unless they have permission they've paid for).  I don't know how seriously they're going after this stuff, but it seems anything owned by that PARTICULAR company (Warner) is going to get more heat due to their fight with YouTube.  I assume the other major labels have deals with YouTube.  Eventually, I think YouTube will ban covers, but that's just my opinion.

MrJay - I don't think they'll ever come to their senses.  Maybe they'll lower the cost to get a license to play their songs, but I doubt they'll just give free reign.

Thanks Phill!  I'm trying not to bombard Chordie with all that stuff, it's all that's been on my mind lately.  Love truly is eternal.

I agree with you on the whole instinctive thing.  When ever I can't understand why some people do what they do, I try to throw it to the instincts and compare us to animals.  It usually makes sense.  But, sense doesn't mean sensible in our civilized world.  Again, very good song!  Let us know if you re-record at any time.  I don't think it needs to be personally, but then I feel everything I've done should be re-recorded too... so I get the feeling!  LOL!

I appreciate your response and you are absolutely right. That is what I normally do, but I accidentally clicked on the ad. It is not a big deal to open it in a new window, it is simply a matter of including the tag TARGET = "_blank". I went back and noticed that several of the advertisers do in fact do that in their ads. I have only found the one ad that seems to be so annoying. If it weren't for the fact that I enjoy chordie so much, I would simply quit using it. I may just quit visiting ads instead, which would be unfortunate for chordie.

I agree with you.  From my experience, ads that rotates automatically are usually not hard coded by the admin, so it probably is the advertiser to blame.  However, since you only found the one, maybe Per can fix it.  I'm sure it's much appreciated by the admin (Per) that you are visiting the links and supporting the site!  Not everyone knows how that works, and considering I'm a moderator here and I do know how that works I will just say, "thank you for visiting Chordie's Sponsors"!  I'm really sorry that your effort has caused such an annoyance, but I'm thrilled to know that you enjoy Chordie as I and so many other's do!  Even if you have to stop visiting the ads, please do continue to visit this great site!  OH... and feel free to jump in on some of the other discussions going on around the forum!  Not only is Chordie great, but so are the people here!

A late, "Welcome to the Forum" to you Zzap!

Ok, I did a little research on this guys!  Apparently Warner Chappell, a major record label, has been fighting with YouTube for a while.  Pretty much, if THEY find it then they are going to tell YouTube to take it down.  Fact of the matter is, while YOU are not making a red cent off of your cover, the record company feels that YouTube IS and therefore YouTube needs to pay them royalties.  Since YouTube isn't interested in doing that, they are simply taking covers down... deleting accounts... etc..

An Excerpt from the Wiki on Warner Music Group regarding YouTube:
"WMG was the first major media company to form a strategic relationship with YouTube, effectively embracing a business model around user-generated content. The arrangement with YouTube required that royalties be paid based on the number of views that videos featuring music from WMG artists received. However in December 2008, negotiations between the two companies broke down, and as a result, clips on YouTube featuring WMG music recordings have had their audio removed or blocked completely and replaced with a message indicating copyright infringement."

Soooo pretty much that means people doing covers too.  Warner is going nutty trying to make sure they get their fair share of the pie.  I suppose in a way I can't blame them... the fact that they made the deal with YouTube and then it all went south gives them the right to consider it "copyright infringement" and shut things down.  Will YouTube go to battle in court over this?  Why would they?  They don't really care about you or I, they just want to keep their money too!  I suppose you could put a disclaimer about "fair use" and for "educational purposes only" in your description... but I doubt that will change anything once Warner Music Group finds your video.  MAYBE you could get away with it if you were doing a tutorial on HOW to play the song and not JUST playing it.  This STINKS! sad

I don't know what this means as far as "where" you can put your covers online "legally" now.  I imagine even sites like soundclick will eventually have problems with covers as well.  And how long do you think it will take until the other major labels follow suit?  It seems that in order to legally play any cover you need to have a manager... even if you're not making any money off it.  Unless, I suppose you decided to pay for a website that you made and feature your covers on that said website and have absolutely ZERO advertising on that website so that there was NO possibility of ever making a dime to help pay for that website (and then there are no royalties to give the labels).  UGH!  Stinky stinky stink!

I feel like I'm sitting around the campfire right now... I could sit and listen to you while staring into the flickering flames with a wine cooler in hand.  Lovely!

I assume she's standing at the pulpit?  Hard to see her with that darn door right behind her.  I enjoy watching the sincerity on ones face while they sing sad  BUT that aside, it sounded AWESOME!  Great job playing too DM!!!

zzap62, if you find that to be a problem and clicking your back arrow doesn't let you come back to Chordie, my suggestion for the mean time is to right click on the ad and have it open in a new window or new tab.  I do that all the time no matter what site I'm on.  Just a proactive approach from your end so you don't get frustrated (on this site or others).  That is a good suggestion though, I am sure it will take a lot of work to fix all the ads so that they open in new windows... so I suppose when the admin gets extra time he will consider adding this to the long list of things to adjust on the site smile

Thank you mekidsmom, for replying.  At my age, I am allowed to "asume" things, of course you know what that means.  I will say this, that I think if you like music and songs, that "Chordie" is the greatest internet site that I have found since buttered biskets.  Thanks guys and gals. I will just wait for the e-mail. Have a nice day.

smile You are very welcome Gabby!  I completely followed your confusion which is why I thought I'd explain.  I've been there and done that in "assuming" too... my 14 year old does it way too often and gets the ole "lecture" my dad always gave!  lol Chordie is great, I think it ranks right up there with true handmade buttered buttermilk biscuits!  I do get the impression that you should have gotten an email from them right away though.  So, check your spam folder just in case your email company flagged it and threw it in there for you, and then shoot jamplay an email if you still haven't gotten anything today.  I'd hate to hear that you missed out on a couple days worth of that 7 day access pass due to an oversight.

BTW - WELCOME to Chordie's forums!  Take a look around here, there's tons of people just ready and willing to help out, answer questions, or welcome your knowledge (plus, in the chat section a while back I had a recipe up there for those biscuits we're talking about and one of our ladies from Ireland had a delish brown bread recipe up there!!)  Happy strumming!!

Russ go to real.com and check it out!  It's basically the same idea as Windows Media Player, or Apple's Quick Time ... but faster and it now comes with links that will show up when you're on YouTube and other locations with videos to just download the file for FREE!!!!  Plus, realplayer is FREE!  I too very much love, love, love FREE!  cool

Gabby, I don't think they mean that you have to donate before you get an email... they are talking about two different websites.  Donating at Justinguitar because he's awesome and the free code was provided by him... and then getting the freebie from Jamplay to try it out.  I can't give you any advice about not getting the email though as I'm not a part of JamPlay (nor is Chordie, it's just highly suggested as a good site by the admin here and many of the members).  So... I suggest you do what they say and contact them at support@jamplay.com or go to their site and call the phone number they say is there.  GOOD LUCK!

I'm curious about JamPlay too... although I don't know that I have enough time to dedicate to lessons right now.  Let us know how you make out!

I was just thinking of you the other day when I was at the local music in the park near me.  It's NOTHING like what you were involved in of course (small local bar bands that handle their own stuff).  But still, I was wondering how your "summer job" was going!  smile  I'm glad to hear all went fairly well.... sounds like a LOT more physically demanding work than I would have ever guessed!  Grab some good face lotion with vitamin C in it for those dry chapped and cracked hands... and then relax a little!  You've earned it!

I guess I have to thank Roger for reviving this!  I didn't see it before myself.  I really like it a lot!  It's got a nice fun feel to it that makes it memorable "oh oh Rosie"... yet that sad eternal triangle that so many people get sucked into.  I'm so glad I've found my "guy next door" and we've stayed true through all our troubles.  Very nice Phill!

I haven't had too many freezing or loading problems.  Usually I'm looking up three different videos at the same time though, so I just pause two and let them load while viewing another.  The newest version of realplayer is AWESOME!  I never liked it before, but I've been using it a LOT lately!

smile Thanks Bswyers!  Those folks do come here occasionally, probably more often than the general membership thinks (because the mods are usually right on top of things) and us Mods throughly enjoy getting rid of their junk!  In fact, I just did that first thing this morning before any posts (you didn't really want to know where to get your degree online and get scammed out of that guitar money you're saving did you?).  BUT like Roger said, it is the attitude and behavior of the Members that really make our job such a pleasure (a job with no pay other than the reward of knowing we're keeping Chordie the place that you want to start a post to say how great it is!).  So, THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEMBERS that make Chordie such an awesome place to visit and help out with!  smile

I've done the Telluride Bluegrass festival before, and I can tell you categorically that the amount of awesome there, if combined into a single place, would coalesce into a black hole of cool that would bore a hole through the very fabric of spacetime itself, and spew unicorns and rainbows all over everything.

I rode my motorcycle from Seattle to Telluride, camped on the infield for the whole time, and have been doing nothing other than trying to get back ever since.

WOW!  Your explanation made me click zguitar's link... and now I'm sitting here feeling the music that started playing on their front page.  My husband really needs to get his motorcycle ride ready and take me to Colorado.  Yet ANOTHER reason for me to want to head west! WOWIE!

Thanks for sharing the link Z!

I can't say anything more than T-Rex has!  Very well put so I will simply second it all!

Glad to hear things are working out Phill!  If it makes you feel any better, the month of August is very emotionally taxing on me remembering the loss of our daughter... my poor husband, who I often forget does have feelings too, has to bear the brunt of my horrible mood swings as I try to fight through so many different emotions about it.  An unexpected loving hug goes a long way when the words won't come out smile

I think it's normal, and I don't think it ends.  You are beginning to appreciate things that are more difficult and individual.  The problem is when you start getting to critical with yourself because you aren't capable of reproducing what you love, well that's my problem anyway!  smile  I still enjoy singing opera type, Italian Arias more than anything else because that's the only "training" I've actually had and that's what I do best.  No one I know likes to listen to it though!  ha ha ha!

SwankyHank, it sounds like you're scanning from printed pages?  If that's the case, when you print go into your printers settings and choose to print in all black and white (after hitting print on the website you should get a box pop up for your printer and there's usually a button called "properties" to hit, then adjust printer settings specific to your printer) - that way the chord symbol will be in black and your scan should come out better.  smile

WEIRD!  I access Chordie from my cell phone and can view everything just fine, songbooks all in place.

Hmmm... I looked into some stuff in your profile.  You do have this checked, "Save username and password between visits."  BUT, it looks like your ip address changes regularly.  I wonder if this is muffing something up.  Does that even work for you, or do you have to enter your username and password every time you come to chordie on the computer you usually use?  So, suggestion one, uncheck that and save.  Log out.  Log in on the laptop.

Next... did you ever make another username that was similar to this one?  Is it possible that you logged in on the other name?  Of course, if you posted this while on the laptop, then that question is out... but if you didn't, it makes me wonder if just maybe you were actually logged in under the wrong account?  I hate to even suggest it, because I feel like you probably already made sure you were logged in properly as you said you logged in "using my usual information" ... but hey... just to be sure ... try again with the laptop, check to see if your songbooks are there, and then come to the forum and update us on this thread.  I've accidentally been logged in under my son's username before and not realized it!  I've even posted under his username... then had to go back and delete it and repost as me.  It's a pain in the tush when he doesn't log out when he's done!  wink

Hey Jim, I just read my reply to you... and I'm assuming I had been getting frustrated that day because I've answered that question soooo many times.  I am sorry that I sounded so harsh!  I don't usually sad  Or... maybe what was edited was still there when I replied and I was insulted at how harsh it was and I was harsh back.  I frankly don't remember.  Again, I am sorry regardless of the reasons for my harshness.  You're right on a few points here!

Here is a thread with some information:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14960
and a link in that thread takes you here to a discussion about the whole thing:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11720

Sadly, none of this really answers any questions.

I don't handle this section of the forum, but I do pop in here from time to time just to help people understand some features and things like that.  Only the moderator in charge of this section, and the administrator of the site are allowed to edit members posts in this section.  I personally do not have that power in this section (when here, I'm just like you a member.  I only have "editing power" in the song requests, chat, and marketplace sections).  I do not know nor do I have access to whatever was written there that was edited out by the moderator of this section or the administrator.

The moderators of this forum do not have access to editing anything else within the Chordie site.  The administrator, username admin, known as Per, is the only person that can make website changes.  Moderators are only in charge of the forum.  Our "job" is simply to "moderate the forum" - make sure people behave while posting publicly.  With that said, if you want to make sure that your message is being sent to the person that can actually make changes, the best place is actually not on the forums.  If I went to the administrator with every issue that ever came up and every suggestion or question I didn't have an answer to from a member, I'd need a paycheck lol  Please, contact admin@chordie.com

Honestly, I really thought that the coding had to do with making sure your time zone was correct in the settings.  It may be something that he has to hard code as far as entering known domains that are not in the UK and perhaps the email address you are using is causing the issue.  It may be by ip addresses known to be in the UK or not.  It could be anything that's not known just falls under the clause of being excluded.  I think that you are  right... it seems that it could be improved upon.  You make a valid point about my comment on "perfection".  Like I said, I'm sorry my response was so harsh!  I assume that our fantastic website owner/admin/coding guru has done what he can as well as he can and next step would simply be to block everyone (of course, we don't want that!).   BUT... I could be wrong!  roll I don't know.  Again, I suggest you contact him directly.  Perhaps he can work his magic and add whatever he needs to - with the help of information from your email domain or ip address - to fix things for both yourself and many others.
