It will remain always a point of discussion, talking about effects. I have a zoom 8080 (I think) age already 10 years, and he is still super.
I have 2 small effect "machines" 1 little Korg Pandora, with this little thing you can create quit a lot of drum and bass patterns and around 40 effects + a bunch of amps.
The biggest is the line 6 floor, with about 100 or more, problem: I have a fender cybertwin, who has already hundreds of different (mainly,of course, fender, like bassman, vibroking) types of amps, and a lot of special effects, a little bit stupid to buy that line 6. I have 3 amps, so I can use it and it is great, but if I should buy a new device, it will be a device who has a lot of amps and effects, but also one CAPABLE TO RECORD, you can play along, by putting a CD in it, or you can burn YOUR CD

Topic: pink floyd top 3 albums (19 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I have almost every pink floyd song or CD.
My top 3 in albums is.
1. Wish You Were Here.(mega super good)
2. The Wall
3. Dark Side Of The Moon
I adore also
- Atom Heart Mother
- Meddle: this one is a little bit, more than a little bit, bluesy, with sliding on a few songs.
I could go on, but one very good album is OBSCURED BY CLOUDS, and I think that after this album, the famous dark side of the moon appeared on the market. You can hear that the songs start more to be "pop" or more "catchy tunes".
COME ON PINK CHORDIAN FLOYD FANS, AND GIVE YOUR OPINION, if possible with a why.
I love wish you where here, because of the real straight from the heart music, more than dark side.
The wall is number 2, also because of the melodies, like "mother" (exists also in duet with Sinnead).
Last but not least, big topic to discuss is: who is the best
ROGER WATERS or PINK FLOYD with GILMOUR. I have the DVD's of both, and my first price goes to ROGER WATERS, live and surrounded by "super professional musicians" which doesn't mean that Pink Floyd is worse. I do agree that the last albums were Waters ft Pink Floyd, but look for yourself the songs written and performed (also in the seventies) by Gilmour.
I hope to have a nice discussion on this one, and the why's are indeed mostly personal taste, but write them if you want.

One of the most beautiful songs written and performed by Pink Floyd is "IF" LP: Atomic Heart Mother" and the best is yet to come, there is a life performance available, where Sinnead 'O Connor sings this song live with Roger Waters. It is a real heart killer.
Of course "shine on your crazy diamond.

Re: any one played sweet child o' mine solo help!!! (3 replies, posted in Song requests)
you can look into the archives of chordie, you will find there also the so called tabs. If you have a lot of patience and time it is possible you will or can play the solo. Other way is more complicated: put in your CD and try to follow the song first, before you try your solo.
I do not play solos, a few "licks" (mini-solos) I play more rhythm and lead, meaning I follow the voice or song, like I follow the Pink Floyd song: THE WALL, more specific the sentences. Like when he sings "we don't need no education, I play that part on 1 or 2 strings, so people will recognise the song I am playing.
Actual I have the same problem as you: I LOOK DESPERATELY THE INTRO from the song "CROSSROADS" by Eric Clapton (CREAM)

hi kilt, is the weather good up there. I love Scotland, and the Greek Instrument is a BOUZOUKI.
Do you like GREEK music? I don't, qk, some songs are good. But Greek music sounds very similar with TURKISH music and that music is related to EASTERN music, like INDIA. For us it is very sober and monotone, I better close my mouth because talking about things you don't really know is wrong
I asked once a question about plagiarism, of course a lot of songs are similar, just take the BLUES, and there are only 7 chords (basic chords), not talking about minor... This is what playing guitar means to me, using chords and try to put them in a an order, did you know that minor chords are almost always used in SAD songs.
I will make a new topic: why guitar, and what are your dreams and knowledge.
Let's see if people answer this. I wait for your opinion: 2 give more than 1.
Have a nice day.

Re: Famous Artists (2 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Thanks for answering kilt. I can't help it, I worked as medical doctor here for the national theater and I directed even some hours, concerning plays where someone was sick or dieing, I had to show them how. And it is so long ago, but "me directing" my television idols, I told them that it was strange to have them as friend, they where even on my wedding, 15 years before, they were my super heroes in all kinds of television "stuff". So I told this, that it was an honor and their answer was even more: We have the honor to know you as man and as doctor, we should be feeling good.
There is only 1 rule: DON'T force yourself to reach the centre of the circle.
Like on that concert, the artists KNEW they were not attacked by paparazzi or journalist (maybe it is easier with a cell phone 5 mp photo's and video. Still al those encounters, are one of the high lights in my live. But those names fade away. If you see our kids, already the next generation, my daughter is going on 20 already;
they don't know a damn thing concerning our music, so did my parents. I just love music, even the most primitive: see ?? the ORIGINAL black betty by leadbelly, no instruments, just his foot.
But I asked that question, just because you are standing eye in eye with a super group, or Bowie, Lou Reed, and telling jokes for 2 hours with Chris Rea, great man, and very underestimated, as was Rory Gallagher.

Re: need easy solos!! (9 replies, posted in Electric)
try to read some tabs, BUT BE PATIENT. I am more a kind of lead/rhythm guitar player, leading here means that using my fingers I can give an extra "schwung" which makes it easier to recognise songs, but solos is not my thing though I can play solos. Best thing is feeling the song and try to find OR people OR a drum/bas device like korg pandora, and for a few $ more you can have 8 to 16 tracks, to record and play.
Other tip: Play with a CD with numbers you like and FIRST once you can play with them TRY careful a solo. PLEASE DO NOT PANIC

hello BADEYE what is that Lobster smoothie? I know you live in the PLACE TO BE to eat delicious lobster's, been a few times in Canada, I love Canada in fact and I always wanted to live there.
I speak Dutch, English (very good) and FRENCH is our second language, you can compare it with the situation in Quebec. I am still desperately looking and I hope to find the chords and lyrics on a day: Kate & Anne McGarrigle: complaint pour St Catherine.
I am also most of the time (lonely") player, but I have 1 nice tool to play with: Korg Pandora, I use the device for my electric guitars and I just follow the bass beat and drum loops, and every week I play acoustic with a friend, mostly starting with an oldie, like The HONEYBUS: I can't let Maggie go but a few minutes later we start to play our own stuff (can be played electric too). My "sparring partner" is a drummer, who has played on some records in a studio, so he is a lot better than me concerning the rhythm, but to play I think we are equal.
One question: I was caught when speeding in Alberta, on the way from Jasper to Edmonton in 2002, and had to face court 3 months later which was impossible of course. So if I come to Canada, Montreal, to drive again in that beautiful Canadian part, will there be a risk for me on the airport, or just in Alberta? Please help me.

Re: Beatles (7 replies, posted in About Chordie)
I have only one thing to say, I think it might be written in F# BUT a song is almost always written in chords for the singer's voice. So if you play HEY JUDE, it is possible that it doesn't match 100% to sing, it will be a lot mote difficult to sing this song in F#. But, for example, if Rod Stewart would perform it, they can and probably have to transpose the same song in other chords. This is also one of the main reasons why I LOVE CHORDIE because you can transpose all the songs, to play and sing them easier. I have a book: ALL THE SONGS OF THE BEATLES, and at least 50% is very hard and difficult to play. Another important factor is that you can see, still talking about beatles, the difference between songs composed with guitar and others using piano.
Piano-written songs are very difficult to play when there was no transposition, I didn't see that you have to transpose these songs, but take a look at ELTON JOHN songs.
Last thing, I have here a book: the beatles and the evolution of their songs. They started with "catchy tunes" and they end with "almost impossible to play master songs".
I hope I could help you

Topic: Famous Artists (2 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Is there a chordian out or inside the forum who was lucky to talk with famous people in the rockworld.
I did, because I worked as medical doc on one of the greatest rock festivals in the world, being backstage doctor only for the musicians. So I have seen a lot, I had a lot of fun KEEPING IN MIND: NEVER DISTURB THE ARTIST(S). Of course you have many interpretations of this rule and the people working backstage was below 15, like 1 friend (now) did or had to look if everything was allright, if it was the right kind of beer, water.....
But in my case, I was called by the artists. And they are really not better than we, BUT please, don't start to ask pictures or signed stuff. If they like you as a person, they will do this spontaneous. I realise now that I was a lucky guy, and the first "meet & greet" is WOW!! I have discussed with a lot of artists, BUT knowing the most important rule, I discussed when THEY called me.
BEST CLOSE ENCOUNTERS
1/ FOO FIGHTERS, in particular DAVE GROHL. He gave me his home phone number, and invited me for visting him in Seattle, he wanted to play together, going to the studio to see REM recording their album. I didn' contact him and I still regret it, because he is a sweet, polite modest & quit man. Why I didn't: duty called me and if you work as independent: no work, no money and just coming back from holiday. I don't like to write stuff like this because it's so selfish like look what I could do.
I was proud, and it was amazing NO REGRETS.
2/ ICE T very nice guy, got a few t-shirts.
3/ Wendy and Lisa, there I saw a lot, very nice bodies.
For my conscience, please write or answer on this topic.
DID YOU HAD THE LUCK TO TALK WITH ARTISTS, more or less famous.

Good name for your group OLD DOLL
ERICA CLOPTAN ft THE OLD DOLLS is playing tonight an exceptional, private concert, in the biggest jazz club in Montreal, I will fly from Brussels to Montreal, and I hope a lot of you chordians will be there too to see and probably jamming after a few beers and songs.
Are there other names you should give to this band?
There will be no problem to recognise the participatin chordians, we all sleep in the sheraton, in the "old montreal" in the centre, we will be dressed as dolls only the administrator will be dressed as a white doll, moderators in broken white, and the rest name tags included, as simple dolls.
If needed, we bring at least an acoustic and an electric guitar, for the BIG FINAL CHORDIE JAM.
Other ideas: give your ideas and suggestions here and now.
Thanks for reading and supporting. Talked about supporting: should Eric Clapton come? maybe if we could arrange a kind of fund raising for his project (alcohol, drugs) somewhere in the Carribean. If we could arrange that, not this week, within 2 years, it would be really INTERESTING and VERY FUNNY, in fact, things like that you will NEVER EVER FORGET, and it will be burned in our "collective memories"

That's why I love all the opinions: see ROBBIE WILLIAMS: SUPER GOD in Europe, BUT VERY SMALL IN USA, sure people will now him there, but a minority.
Oasis: They tried at least a few times to score "great" hits in the USA.
You can compare it with the "IMPACT" of MICHAEL BOLTON in Europe.
DON'T FORGET THAT EUROPE has a lot of potential buyers. BELGIUM: 10.000.000 THE NETHERLANDS: 16.000.000 GERMANY 80.000.000 GREAT BRITAIN 70.000.000 FRANCE 70.000.000, Only these countries together have more or less the USA population. For French Songs; a lot of Canadians buy European music as well. Also don't forget the other countries, POLAND, SCANDINAVIA, see world map, I am to lazy today.
I will add a little "quiz" question. Queen, has got many beautiful songs, they had it "all" hits succes. But why were they twice as popular compared to even Led Zeppelin, and other great names in your southern part: SOUTH AMERICA. Give it a try, it is a very good question to solve.

Re: Selling Guitars (6 replies, posted in Electric)
that's an answer.
We "the European brancce of chordians" charter a plane and fly to the USA to buy guitars, $ < €
1 problem: customs. But if you want a guitar: ebay.com and pick one out. Even when the guitar arrives at your place, it still cost you a lot cheaper. Best way to know the import price & taxes included, your instrument: 1000$ in Europe she will arrive for easy calulation, and you will pay the same price in € still a lot cheaper than in the store, something broken? Never with an electric, but the acoustic guitars: they neck/headstock can give problems. If such a guitar is ordered, ask to remove the strings, or if that's impossible, unwind the strings, so no more tension on it.

In the time, when I still worked, a lot of people called me doc, or Lieven, some (and not much patients) did name name and title. I preferred not, because it is just a job like another.

Well I think I might drive on a winter's day and drive to Portugal.
I noticed quit a few members are from Canada, a country I love so much. Theoretically I should have been "working" in Canada now. I had a place in SOUTH AFRICA, all paper work was finished.
I even had a place to work with another doc from Belgium, but first 2-3 years emergency. A lot of stab wounds, you can see & do 10x more interesting for diagnosis and treatment, I started with this end 1997, (girls!!!) and after a few years I could go to Canada, without doing exams, because together with Australia, they are members of the British commonwealth. So I went twice in 1998, but finally I staid here (again girls, girls, girls) and now I am sitting home because of a car accident in stead of working there (Canada), probably the Quebec site.

BUT WHAT IF YOU DRIVE LONGDISTANCE: Radio is not very useful, because of the frequency changes a lot, there is great music in the US, but I only could listen to a radio post like 80 miles around a city. If you listen to CD's: COMPILATION or 1 GROUP? By the way there are a lot of "car cd's". I listen to almost all CD's I braught with me, like I told, CCR, DEEP PURPLE. Topic: Facts 7 : yes they are Jewish musicians (0 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
This should be a real surprising subject. Everyone knows that BOB DYLAN is a jew, born as ROBERT ZIMMERMAN. But I was really surprised to see that artists, musicians in this case, so popular were in fact Jewish. I insist that I am not antisemitic, but I was amazed. If you fellow "chordians" can help me to make a bigger list, please do because I DON'T WANT ALL CREDITS FOR THE FACTS TOPIC. I just try to search facts and share them with you, and I do know a lot of music and musicians, from songwriters to performes. So be prepared for some surprises.
Some incredible ones (maybe for me, because I don't live in the USA):
- LOU REED: Lewis Allan Reed born March 2 1942 from Jewish parents in Brooklyn. Who doesn't know Lou Reed? His first recording was as a member of a doo wop-style group called The Shades. In 1963 he started in New York as a songwriter and I think in 1965 he started the Velvet Underground with John Cale.
- BECK (HANSEN) born Bek David Campbell, but in fact not directly. I have heard that jewish (religion) is passed through the mother's side.
- MICHAEL BOLTON (born Michael Bolotin on February 26, 1953) famous country and western
- PAUL SIMON & ART GARFUNKEL: this fact I knew already a long time, BUT WHAT DO YOU PREFER: BOTH TOGETHER, OR PAUL SIMON SOLO?????
- GWYNETH PALTROW: father was a television producer and paternal grandparents were Gertrud Goldman and Aaron Paltrow. Mother was from Dutch descent.
JACK BLACK: (TENACIOUS D, is not only the movie, but also a rock group with BLACK) Judith Cohen, is Jewish, and his father, Thomas Jack Black, Sr., converted to Judaism after marrying Judith
- PAULA ABDUL: Abdul's father was a Mizrahi Syrian Jew who immigrated with his family to Brazil and then to the U.S. while her mother is also Jewish .
- BILLY JOEL: his father was Howard (Born Helmut Joel) & grandfather Karl Amson Joel and his mother was Rosalynd Nyman
- GENE SIMMONS: Born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel, they went to New York I think in 1957
- COUNTRY JOE MCDONALD (Woodstock '69: Country Joe and the Fish)
- "MAMA" CASS ELLIOT: Real Name Ellen Naomi Cohen
- PAUL STANLEY (with Gene Simmons in KISS) born as Stanley Harvey Eisen.
- JOHN DENVER born as Henry John Deutschendorf. I want to tell you this, because a lot of people don't know the fact that there are a lot of JEWISH people with BLOND HAIR & BLUE EYES, they often come from regio's in Russia, and more in the regio of the Baltic States, you can find there really beautiful girls (for the girls: men). I went once to ESTONIA and you should be careful as man not to bump against walls, because I swear I saw there a lot of beautiful women, BUT this is of course about taste.
- JANIS IAN born as Janis Eddy Fink, toke her brothers middlename: IAN as last name.
I have tried to put names in this list containing people you don't expect they are Jewish. WITHOUT OFFENDING PEOPLE of course.
You can also look for actors, or people like Einstein. I hope you liked this one, and again, welcome to make or complete topics like this.

Re: Facts 6 (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Well, this answer from BADEYE, is the kind of answers I like. Maybe, this topic "can" exclude some fellow chordians. That's why I ask the question about car music (I think most of us driving long distances, put more "rock music style" in their CD. I am sure that nobody here will drive 500 miles with JAMES HETFIELD and Co for 7 hours non stop. This is also one of the reasons I am less using mp3.
I could listen, having all their songs, for 5 hours Pink Floyd, Deep Purple. I love songs in the car, I am always singing even shouting with a lot of numbers. But not all of us do long distance. Since I couldn't work anymore, I think I drive MAYBE 30 miles/week, not enough to change always my CD's, BUT when I am busy, like now, I "click" on several numbers (songs), but with that difference that I am even listening to disco, DISCO is COMING BACK, and where I used to laugh even spit on disco songs, they aren't that bad.
