OK.  You might convince me to buy a Triumph.

TRIUMPH ROCKS   I have had mine for 6 years.  Its my 3rd bike and I cut my teeth on a used 85 Yamaha 700, then a Kawasaki 1000 Police bike.

If you own a Triumph,, you steal the HD  guys attention, and sometimes their girl!

Coming from a novice, there are some brands that just plain reek of cheap and uncool. Epiphone, Alvarez, anything in flying V, and pretty much everything Japanese or unfamiliar seems second rate. The Japanese acoustics do seem well crafted though.

I have to DISAGREE COMPLEATLY!  I have always had budget guitars.  Epie's are GREAT guitars,,, your statement makes me wonder If you knew how to set up your guitar,, and how to set your amps.  Dean flying Vs are the same. Axl Strats sound good but need a definate set up and fret file.  I could go on, but I will stop with the examples above.

THE MAIN THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT AFFORDABLE GUITARS (under 500)  Is quality of pick ups and electronics.  but for most ppl, they are great.  The cheaper woods, the fact that one company in japan makes 15 different names in guitar, really only matters if your a pro in a studio.  On that note, many pros use what were once bargin guitars (Silvertone, Harmoney, Airline, Danelecto, also made by silvertone).

If your just starting, get a guitar you can afford, learn it, then its like a hot rod or bike, change out a pick up, tweak the pots.

You will have become attached to your AX and know what you like better.

Roger,

It took me 16 of my 20 military years to get that fender.  I was lucky enough to go on a detachment to Ankorage Alaska for a top gun tye thing for 3 weeks.  We made some very nice PerDiem.  So I found the Fender!  good memories wrapped up in that trip and guitar.

Zurf,

If the girl in WV actually remembers, she told me that both her guitars wold one day be mine.  I am hopiong that she will not have had to die for that to happen.  They would both be very collectable by now I would think since they are of 70s and early 80s vintage.

Well I seem rather Dull compared to this list.

I think what I would have to say that I do VERY WELL is to be a good friend.  sometimes to the point of where my wife wonders why I try so hard to keep up with some  of my less communitive friends.  I will admit that Facebook has made this much easier!

I love to ride motorcycles.  TRIUMPH is my flavor of choice though I have had a Yamaha  and a Kawasaki.

I really like to hang with family and friends and I must say that BEER is my choice of beverages.

I think if it is summed up its like this (Wife and kids not in this list as I see it as a skills  hobby question)

I love guitars, even though Im a strugling 25 yr player, see greeting)
My Bike and traveling around with a few friends who share the same joy.
I like to goof off on my puter.
I call myself a BEER snob and a Coffee Snob.  Though I do consume abundant "Garage beers" IE -Bush, PBR.  My favorite Beers have to be Smithwicks and Shinerbock, With Henerys red tieing for 2nd.

I can maintain cars and bikes but not very confident at very involved stuff.  I am better at my bike than cars.

and I am a great friend.  ( I think and so ppl tell me)

I would highly recomend he check out Guitar Jamz with Marty Schwarts.  I ordered a great set of DVDs from him (Licks tricks and backing tracks). He is also on line and you can see alot of his stuff on you tube.  from basic starter to advanced.  (visti a Library if you need to get a better internet conection to see His lesson pkgs)

Dont know if metal is your thing but Doug Marks has had courses out since the 80s and is great also.

If DVD is what your looking for Mary and Doug shold get you covered.  I have been using Martys stuff for the last 8 months and man HE REALLY TEACHES SO YOU CAN FOLLOW.  also on you tube look up pappastash102  He is a buddy of Martys and leans to the heavier stuff and the Hendrix and funk wah wah.

HELLO CHORDIANS!  (btw I like that moniker LOLOL)

About me:
My Name is Scott and I am 43.  Beamer is a nick name I picked up about 15 yrs ago from my father in law during my very first motorcycle rally. (As you can see “Beam me up Scotty" just fit)  I also have an original style command badge on my vest LOLOL!  So there are 2 of my other interest.
I have been a music fan since the age of 8.  I had a neighbor who played guitar.  She was in her 20's and when my brothers and she would light a camp fire she always would play.  I thought her 12 string Ovation was the coolest thing I had ever seen.  Kiss was my very first RNR band and it went on from there.
It was not till I was 16 and moved to NC from WV that I finally found a person willing to help me learn.
Chuck was infinitely patient.  He was self taught and very good!  I got a book learned about 24 open chords and the different bar shapes.  Let’s just say I have been a frustrated player ever since.  I have never really learned theory, or lead.  I can play some of the basic chord keg rock.  I love my heavy metal (classic, 80’s!  And newer stuff) to this day.  I also love the classic songwriters (Harry Chapin, James Taylor, and Gordon Lightfoot).
Everything I have learned about music has been stubborn determination chiseled into my granite head!  I have almost gotten rid of all my stuff many times over the last 25 years because I cannot make my AX sing the way I want it to.  I let it sit for a bit, then pick up my guitar turn my amp up and hit E5 on the 7th fret.  Start some palm muting and then I forget about how I can’t play Stairway or Eruption.  I remember that it’s about having fun and writing what’s inside.
Influences:  To be completely honest to myself, I have to claim Jim Morrison, Harry Chapin, and E.A. Poe as three of the strongest for my one personality side.  The heavy and punk side sorta followed naturally but I have to say I really dig THE RAMONES for the 3 min hit all and no lead guitar! I will say that the 80s style is my favorite of “hair  music.  Some of my buddies refer to ourselves as “CHUNKERS  ripping the palm muted chug-a-chunk just makes me feel great.

Current equipment (most all budget minded):
Epiphone SG G400 cherry bridge p/u replaced with a Seymour Duncan George Lynch Screaming’ Demon
Fender 12 string acoustic (Dean Markley sound hole pick up)
Kaman 6 string deep bowl. (Was once a parent Co of Ovation) this guitar has been around the block! Love it!
Bugera V5 tube amp
Beheringer 1 x12 modeling amp (65W)
Effects chain—
Yamaha compressor/sustainer (84ish on year)
VOX Wah (Brit flag edition-rare)
Boss HM2 Metal Zone
Ibanez Sound Tank DL2
Ibanez FL9 flanger (80’s original)
DigiTech RP250 w/ dedicated laptop
My boys stuff that we all share (they are 9 and 10)
AXL Strat. Tobacco sunburst
Dean Michael Sheinker signature Flying V - GFS Crunchy Rails in bridge
Dano Fab distortion
DigiTech RP70
Johnson T-15 Hybrid amp.
Rogue LX 200B 4string bass
Standard Jazz bass (Fender knock off, plays great!)
DigiTech BP80
Fender 10 W practice bass amp
Well that about cover it! :-)

@ Russel,

I was at a Navy Exchange in Cuba a few years ago.  Wanted something to work with and found it on the programs shelf.  Its a full studio and number of tracks is only limited by hard drive space.  Kinda a fore runner to Pro Tools.  its complicated for my basic knowledge, So I do like to use AUDIO GALAXY for stuff.  I have just started to get back into using it all.  Have been transfering 25 yr old cassets of me and my basement buddies to the comp.  I did find a great Bass line from a buddy that I have to work on getting my guitar silanced in the back round as much as possible.   I am going to put a bio  on the general page ablut me.  Thanks for the quic reply guys.

While not new to Chordie, I have not looked at teh forum till today.  Big Question.  What format do I need to send to whoever would be willing to mix and add?  I have Audio galaxy tracks.  I also have a cakewalk program I bought and have never learned to use.

If this was the wrong section of the forum  to post this question, sorry Ill get it all sorted out. THANKS!

SCOTT.
