When the pickups need a look, you can probably get something at Guitar Fetish that will work well, and cost little.

Good stuff, Easy ... an alternate title might be "Keeping Up Appearances", something we all do with varying degrees of success / failure.

Is this what you're referring to, Beamer?

I know you really liked that thing, as per an email you sent me several months ago. Those micro circuits don't handle a lot of heat, and I'm sorry for your loss. Will there be a memorial service? lol I certainly haven't regretted getting my Boss ME-80, and I think they're just under $300 new ... just an opinion.

Bill...

I certainly agree with your estimation of the talent within the Chordie family, and I'm sure that talent spans the whole range of skill levels. The common thing that bonds us is that we all love music and guitars, and this site celebrates that union in a non-competitive, inviting atmosphere. I think we can each recognize great work as it's posted, without making it a contest. In the end, it is the effort, creativity, and the love of song that 's being recognized and rewarded. If the writer enjoyed creating it, then it's mission accomplished.

Just my 2-cents worth.

For some time, I've been looking around for an all-solid-wood guitar, with a Spruce top and Rosewood body ... hopefully in the $1,000 range. My frustration has continued to be with neck width, which is typically 1 11/16" at the nut for the majority of acoustics. Since I also play classical (2" nut) and 12-string (1 7/8" nut) I find myself jammed up on a standard 6-string, owing in part to my hand size.

So while visiting the luthier I use this week, he asked if I've ever heard of Cordoba Guitars. They're based on a Flamenco-style build (Spanish heel) and have a 1.8" nut width, almost identical to a 12-string. He endorsed their build quality, and they have the wood combo I'm looking for just under $1,000. Does anyone on Chordie have a Cordoba, and if so, what do you like / dislike about it? I'm going to have to order it on-line without playing it, and although the seller has a convenient return policy, it would be better to have someone's feedback first.

I found this thorough review at Acoustic Guitar, but would like to have one of your opinions if possible:

Porcupine Tree    "Time Flies"    Chicago, 2010

Time for some more PT. In typical fashion "Time Flies" features some characteristic musical twists in the song, and some fantastic use of effects by guitarist John Wesley. My brother (a fairly decent drummer) told me that this thing has a weird time signature, and that Gavin Harrison's riffs in this would handcuff him badly - especially during the cacophonous middle section of this piece. Gavin's timing, concentration, hand-speed, and co-ordination never fails to impress me.

Good job, Mojo ... love the rhyme and the contrast between "serene" and "gasoline".

Windows 10? I'm getting along just fine with 8.1 ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yup, there's a dark humor to that one. Kind of like putting a snooze button on a smoke alarm.

I have some memories from the distant past that echo your lines. At least I think they're memories ... can't seem to recall.

You're too kind, TIGLJK ... thanks for your comments.

So I started thinking about a 4th verse as you suggest, and am drawing blanks. That's a funny thing about poetry / songwriting. It either "happens" or it doesn't.

Also guilty as charged. I might jot down an idea for a poem, and not develop it for months, if at all. Other times the whole thing comes together in a few minutes. I usually keep a note pad within reach, just so I can jot something down when it comes to mind. Creativity is a curious journey!

Really like to tennis analogy to their use of "Love". I've never understood why that term was chosen to mean "nothing", but there are a lot of unique sports terms that don't seem to make sense.

Been there, buddy.

Feels like everything that can go wrong is going wrong, and it's like suffocating in your own despair. Yup, been there. But the happy report is that it does not last. At the end of that long tunnel, you'll come out into the sunshine with a whole new & broader perspective than you can imagine. There are life lessons we learn through hardships, that equip us in ways we can't otherwise learn them. Experience - though often painful - is the best teacher, and you will come through it stronger than looks possible in this moment.

In the meantime, as Bluejeep says, prayers and kind thoughts go out to you.

Try Googling the Artist and Song Name, as there a couple places where this comes up. I had a quick peek but wasn't comfortable with what I found. Forgive me for being prudish, but I'd rather not pass along what I found.

There's a book about G.A.S. that I just found out about:

Perhaps we should pitch in to buy JJJ a copy, before he bankrupts his entire future ... hmmmm?

Welcome to Chordie, Markeden!

I note on your website that you're from Leicester in the UK, and we have a number of very knowledgeable members in your country. Mekidsmom (or MKD as we often refer to her) has given you some great tips on how to benefit from the collective know-how on Chordie. In addition, the Music Theory forum is useful, if you're looking for depth. There are also two on-line series of very good guitar courses that many of us have made use of, which you also may find helpful:

www.jamplay.com (based out Ohio, USA)

www.justinguitar.com (based out of London)

As MKD has already said, please feel free to use the various Forums regularly. We'll all be eager and supportive to follow your development as a guitarist, and to also learn from you as you make progress.

That's a very thoughtful and appropriate gesture on your part, TIG ... hat's off to ya, mate!

That does it, JJJ ... you've crossed the line. I'm proposing we all pitch in a get you this sign for your front lawn:

The chord logo on the the Chordie T's might make a good flag. I've got a couple of them, and they always draw positive comments:

There are 3 pieces of music which nearly always move me to weeping like a baby, and they're all instrumental:

Ralph Vaughan Williams'  "The Lark Ascending"

Camille Saint-Saens   "Third Symphony, 4th movement"

James MacPherson's   "MacPherson's Lament"
