Cam and Toots, we've had a touch of your summer this year... high 90's all of July and just horribly humid all summer long. Would you like to take my winter this year and I'll take yours?
Old Doll - Although you have all that rain, you don't have amazingly hot summers, and you don't get too much snow either. I don't know how well I'd fair with rain all the time but I could do without the very extreme 4 seasons we have in NY.
It is an excellent lesson to try to apply to the rest of life for sure!
-- in a completely unrelated matter, and as a friend not moderator, I tried to send you an email but it bounced back to me Tom, if you get a chance can you please update your email address on Chordie and contact me? Thanks!!! -- Amy
Thanks Russell! Yes, I can convert them to mp3's, I was under the impression people preferred to work with .wav files. Thank you for the ideas on websites to host the files. I already have a google account, so I guess that will work! I will look into that. I figured I'd throw the idea out here to anyone that was interested in jumping in. It looks like the lists were compiled a while ago (mostly), so I wasn't sure if everyone was still on board. If I don't get any takers, I'll start scouring the lists and sending out some emails.
Welcome to Chordie Mldennis... and to the forums! I've never heard of that song, but perhaps one of the other members will pop in here when they find time and help you out!
Oh MY! I think I would be scared to ship a guitar even with proper packaging and padding! I had purchased electrics for my boys for Christmas and while they were very well packed, they were ultimately in cardboard boxes. One of the boxes was ripped open pretty badly (everything was safe inside). They only had to come across the states. Very sad to think that this poor fellow can't just "return to sender" and insist on a "replacement". I am assuming this was not a new purchase. I can't imagine the feeling he must have had when he opened that package up! Good Luck Roger... let us know how the repair goes!
Ok boys and girls... I have a song that's in the songwriting forum and I thought it might be fun to see if anyone would like to have a shot at making it into something a little more exciting than just some strumming and singing. It needs some lead guitar, some bass, and some dummmmmmms! Anyone interested in messing around with this? And um... how do we go about doing that? Do I need an account somewhere online where I can share monster huge wav files? I do not find myself to be a "great" guitar player, I generally have buzzing due to poor fretting and all that. Of course someone needs to mess with the mix on this, or just totally re-record the sturmming! LOL! It probably needs to be completely re-recorded, I did the guitar and singing all on one track. So, let me know what you think. It's the song I wrote for my husband and I think a polished up more professional type sounding song would be really cool to give him for our anniversary in September, or if that's not doable, for his birthday in November! Thanks!
Chords, lyrics and now the basic recording can all be found within this thread: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic. … 899#p97899
It has been spooky quiet in here this weekend. Maybe a bunch of chordians were done in by zombies on Friday the 13th?
Being in a sad state myself due to the anniversary of loss, your poem is a reminder for me to love and hug close those ones that are still here... now. Very nicely written Ark, I am sure it will be beautiful once music comes to your words. We will be visiting our daughter and my father in law's graves today. I will be sure to take a moment of thought for your losses while there as well.
Oh Phill! This is beautiful! Yes, it's sad but for all the right reasons with a glimmer of hope at the love felt and keeping the thought of a spirit alive! I love it! A few tears, and the thought that clearly you know loss yourself. I know many (most... all will at some point) people have felt a loss in their lives, this one is like no other... I suppose in good ways as well as bad. I really am honored and just... I guess I can't think of words to describe. In this world where I walk around every day and feel that so many people misunderstand me, I feel at home here at Chordie. THANK YOU so much for the poem, and even more, for giving me a place where I can say, "I'm really sad right now, and that is ok." I am so sick and tired of pretending I am not because the people around me "don't get it" and don't "want" to see or know it. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You have touched my heart (more tears!!!!! but good ones of feeling loved).
Welcome to the forums pfk! I will second what Dino and Ark said! Searching other's songbooks often brings an idea for something that you hadn't thought of playing before... and trying to write some of your own stuff, or just push yourself to learn something more makes it all more interesting too. I love the guitar because I feel that I will never tire of learning, there will always be something new that I can wrap my head around. Theory... styles... different genres... etc! Good luck!
If you go back to the "my songbook" page, then click on the songbook that you made public, on the top of the page, under the title and above the list of songs in RED it will say, "Note: This songbook is public". If you see that, then it's been done. If you click on "view/print songbook" then you can copy that URL and give it away to others to view.
There are really SOOO many public songbooks that it's hard sometimes to find just the one you're searching for. New ones are added everyday. You can also go to the public songbook page and do a search based on the name of your songbook (hopefully it's unique!!). I tried to search using your username, but there are sooooo many that come up with the word "Chris" (in the title, membername, song name, song author) that yours can't easily be found that way. "mekidsmom" doesn't show up anywhere else, so it's easy to find mine by searching just my username.
Let me know how you fair with this! You could always rename your songbook if you need to make it easier for someone in particular to find.
Sounds like it will be an awesome time Badeye! Have a BLAST!
Thank you very much Roger. I am pleased to know that the song moved you, even if it was just for me
Hi Chris. Click on the "My Songbook" Tab. Choose the songbook on the left that you would like to use. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for "Make songbook availiable to everybody:" then click on the button that says "publish"

Time and beats? Leads? AHHH! ha ha ha... yes, when just reading the words and chords to a song it's very difficult to try to figure out what the author had in mind for the actual sound, until you hear it. In fact, I was working on someone else's song (that they never got recorded) and I uploaded it to YouTube. I'm nervous as heck for him to hear it, because of course I have NO CLUE what the original intent was for the sound.
Thank you for your comment
With that said, I am editing the original post with the two links to the recordings... that should help people find the sound better!
Hi Ian - I've heard others with this same issue. Seems to be a glitch in the system, once a song is removed from the chordie index... it gets stuck in people's songbooks and can't be removed. So in the mean time, yes you're stuck. I think! Do a little searching in this section and see if anyone else has found a solution to this. I have seen this same problem, but don't recall seeing a solution yet.
In the mean time, you could make a new songbook and move the songs you want to KEEP into it. Then at least you'd be able to print out the new songbook, or whatever it is you want to do with it (or at least not have to see the songs you don't want anymore as they'd all be in the old one).
That was very entertaining... Even the hoax portion was quite entertaining. Ahhh... the simple things in life like a simple dry erase board, a woman with incredible facial expressions, and a little imagination. Better than any one liner comic strips I've seen in a while
Finally, 10-11 months later I have re-recorded this song. It took learning a bit more on the guitar, and some more tears to get this done. Courtney's birthday is the 21st of this month and my plan for the past year has been to get this song recorded in a way that will do a bit more justice to her and the song before her birthday came. Quite a few friends and family have asked me to play this one for them, yet it's difficult for me to play it with the memories it brings back. So... a bitter-sweet happy birthday to my angel that would have been 7 this year... and a new recording can now be found on my new account on soundclick here: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9513804
For anyone NOT familiar with soundclick, you can listen to the song by clicking on either the "play low-fi" or "play high-fi" options. There is no requirement at all to purchase the song.
Oh DM... looks like Pix removed that video. He did just kinda throw it together quick for me. Sorry! Like Phill, I use the heel of my hand pretty much across as many strings as it will span... but I tend to just mute everything out fairly heavy and strum heavier while muting (on the down strokes and not strum so hard on the ups which are "fairly open"). Also, I'm using an acoustic and that probably makes a big difference!!! I'm still working on being able to do this AND not lose my rhythm through an entire song. I inevitably get sidetracked somewhere in the song while switching on and off muting more so than when just strumming. Practice as usual!
It's interesting to get a little more history on your life Wayne (and glad I'm not the only one that spent a little too much time in the Bar in my youth! LOL). I'll be thrilled to hear this one when you find the time. The words to me have an old folk song type of feeling to them, or possibly just a serious down home country flair. No doubt with the way you play, it will feel far more country than old folk. Although, I bet this one could be played either way! Round the campfire, or all filled out with some bass and lead! NICE JOB!
Wild... interesting how it's an even split... some looked better then, some better now, and some exactly the same with their 80's hair still worn proudly in place! LOL! Thanks for the link, that was fun.
Cudos to you for getting on stage and attempting it... sounds like you did quite well! Had you played a third song, I bet you'd have gotten everything together perfectly! Now you're ready for next time... don't be surprised if those nerves come back... but you'll be better prepared for them! Good job and thank you for sharing your story with us!!
Beautiful! You know, it could go for more than just a hopeless romantic. It could be for one that has said goodbye already forever... either through the death of love or life.
"We'd spend the hours cuddling close
Holding memory near
And before I left, I'd shed for you
A never ending tear."
Simple, yet powerful! Thank you Bill for sharing, and welcome to the forums!!
Phill, I would be HONORED! Of course, if for some reason while you're writing you get a tune stuck in your head... feel free to to put it to music first as it shall be your work. Just try to keep my low level guitar playing in mind so that I might play it! LOL! Thank you very much!
