susan,

I might be wrong but you could try the band " me first and the gimme gimmes", they do punked up versions of slow songs.

I know they do this but dont know if it is the version you are looking for

Nice looking guitar and for only 130 dolla, about £75, not bad at all.
My advice since you say you are a complete novice and self teaching yerself is not to go spending too much money on a guitar.
I know if it was me I would spend maybe about £60 on one, but over there in USA ye get things cheaper than here, so I am not sure about prices to advise you on.

have the amount yer prepared to spend then look round shops and try them out in the shops, even if you are not great and dont want people to hear you play in a shop. I done this for my second guitar and I was awful, a few chords strummed, got some funny looks. But I never saw these people again so no need to be shy.
If it feels good for you and you can afford it, buy it.

then when you progress and get better upgrgade your guitar.

heard of fantasy football?  well here is your chance to name your fantasy band.

Can be living musicians or dead ones.

rules...... Name 1 song then name the band.

the band must consist of  1 singer, 2 guitarists, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, one keyboard player. you can name two backing sogners ( even if they were a main singer in a band)

you cannot name a song and have any member of that band named in your selection.

my fantasy band and song.

Song: freebird

band: singer..........james hetfield ( from metallica)

      lead guitarist..JImmy hendrix

rythum guitar...Pete towsnhend ( from the who)

     bass player......Mark King  ( from  level 42)

      drums............Keith moon

      KEYBOARD PLAYER...Michael Kamen

      backing singer 1...freddie mercury

      backing singer 2...robbie williams

dampen means to play the notes but not to let them ring out. a fw ways to dampen the sound, using the hand you strum with once strummed or about the same time you mute the sound with the hand, or the fingers you use for the chords, lift them up a bit so the sound is not ringing.

hmmm, hard to explain on text

the only thing i can think of right now is the voting sytem for the song books. Whenever someone votes that is the vote. It doesnt seem to apear to be done on averages of votes. i.e if I go in and gove mysefl one star, I will go to one star, the nI vote again and give it 5 stars, I will be a five star.

It doesnt really reflect on what people think, only the last person that voted.

apart from that, i love everything about the web site, no complaints from me.

oh yeah, one thing. I have 3 song books. when i want to add a song i can only add it to the book that i had opened last.

can we not have it if you add a song you can choose what book you want to put it in?

cheers

When i saw this topic I thought it was going to be the chords for the beatles song HELP, lol, na, just kidding.

I play hotel yorba, I have never wrote down a strumming pattern for any song though. I just do it and seems to be right,

but try start strumming the chord G on the word "watching"

I also find that I dampen the some of the strumming on the chords C and more  definetly D chords.

sorry this is the best I can give and hope it helps.

I am not very good at writing down strumming patterns, if I tried I would be here all night. I can read music a little which is a little better than paul macca when he started and look how rich he is <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">  so there is hope for us all  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">

( rpobably not, and I was not bringing down his abilitlies for songwriting, he is a genius, especially that he could not or cannot read music)

this link tell you nothing, you cannot go anywhere apart from registering. WHo would register for something they have no idea what it is? All the links dont work apart from the register.

it has a box to tick for "agrreing with the rules etc", but there are no rules to be seen.

why put a link on if there is nothing you can do apart from register?

people, steer clear of this until the person has something you can read.

I was on a web site a while ago and saw corrs songs and some chords for some of their songs. Sorry, but can't remember what it was. But if it helps I was searching for scottish irish folk music. I know I was looking thru a lot of web sites and clicking on links. But there is something somewhere.

good luck finding it.

I have a book in the house with a couple of their songs on, I will try and find it sometime and let you know what songs are on it.

hi roy,

dont know if it is the same song or not but I know a band called Cinderella had a song called "falling apart at the seams". They might have covered it.

I cannot recall marmalade doing a song called that though.

If yer going to vote, make sure ye vote kindly and give me 5 stars even if ye think my songs are rubbish,

hanx,lol

Ken

well watching "Walk the line" lets you know a little bit about Johnny cash. But there is a book about his life which I am told is a very good read, even for people that dont like his music, he was a true hellraiser.

I have still yet to read tha book.

The others you mention, i have never heard of. I grew p with Punk, rock, heavy metal and....and.....lmao,,,,, Abba

And I would just like to say, since I am a massive fan. if it were not for STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, green day would not be as good as they are. They regard SLF as a big influence on their music, and no wonder.

is this a bug?

im off for the weekend now, play some guitar in a bothy ofr a few days while lubricating my throat with a fine malt whisky.

yeah, some good advice from alvee there jason,

and I was thinking,

I have been playing for about 10 -15 years.

I am self taught. I decided on what songs i wanted to do, ones that sounded easy. Tehn I found out what chords were in them, then found out how to play the chords for that song.

some, or lots that I chose at first were too hard, so takes time to find the songs to suit you.

But with chordie, there is no need to go looking up chords, it shows you the chords for the song on the same page. Something I really like as I am still learning new chords every month. I might not remember them though if I dont carry on playing the song all the time.

When you learn a new chord or 2, start by just learning to chnge from one chord to another. like G to C.  C to D  D to G G to D etc.. .then when you learn A ( another basic chord) try changing from A to D, A to G G to A C to A etc etc.

I spent a long time doing this and still do sometimes when I find an unusual chord I have to learn. And sometimes I cheat when playing chords. I have quite stumpy fingers and find it hard to play the chord A, so I just hold down the string wit hone finger and try not to play the High E string. Doesnt sound as good as playing A properly but works for me and my style of playing.

good luck, hope some of this helps

Hi Jason and welcome.

There are quite a few posts on this already. I think they might be in the songwrtiing section? or maybe in this section.

if you look thru you will find plenty of ideas.

but if you like white stripes, hotel yorba is just G C D all the way through.

knocking on heavens door is mostly G D C but wit hevery C you play, you play Am. look up the chord section in chordie, the chord chart. there are a lot more easy chords to learn.

campfire songs?

now yer talking, ( set the scene)

6 or so round a good campfire, flames about 3 ft. A good heart in the fire, glowing like it is a traffic light stuck on amber for the night. Green and yellow and blue flames dancing away.everyone having a whisky or 12, no ordinary whisky mind, a good malt whisky ( I recommend "the glen livet")

then, wait listen, who the feck is playing that guitar? what great songs I hear, I will huv tae sing along.

in no order whatsoever but you can copy and paste and use this as your set list for the fire.

Doors..... light my fire

floyd...wish ye were here.

animals, house of the rising sun

knocking on heavens door

johnny cash....ring of fire

and any other 3 or 4 chord wonder that is easy to play and that everyone knows at least the chorus to so they can all sing along.

I dont do much camping now, I tend to visit bothies now, just camping but indoors.

And BEWARE when playing near the fire, watch your varnish on the guitar does not blister. And also you might find the guitar goes out of tune a lot with the heat from the fire then cooling down. used to really annoy me that did.
