And here's another one about coal mining.

With the momentum behind the global movement to ban coal, this dirty & dangerous job is all but extinct. Here's Rita MacNeil & The Men of the Deeps singing her song about it. They're from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (Badeye's place of origin), which historically had an economy largely based on coal production, and a coke-oven fired steel industry ... all gone now:

What a terrific thread idea, Peatle ... good on ya!

They're not quite defunct yet, but the flag people who control traffic around construction zones are now being replaced by technology. Here's a comic take by the inimitable (I've always wanted to say that!) "Buddy Whasisname & The Other Fellers" :

And here's what their robotic replacements look like:

So raise a glass for the dearly departed Debrah ... she'll never have to shivver in the cold & wet a again! big_smile

Lots of insight and introspection in this one, Beamer, and some very positive hopes as well. You've been "baring your soul" in a lot of your recent work, and that takes courage. Adding courage and hope together is a powerful mix for better days ... nice work!

This is absolutely, bar-none, no-contest, the creepiest album cover of all time:

Very nice ... he's got Scotty's palm-muting technique down pat. Really enjoyed this, and that Gibson ES-175 with the P-90's sounds fantastic.

Hi Bill ... good of you to pop in and say "hello" to all of us. Been missing you, dude, but we know you and your dear Dondra have had some challenges lately.

Y'all come back, now ... y'hear?

The Mellotron was an early attempt to bring a string section along on tour (or into a recording) without having to hire a string section. Other keyboardists who used it extensively were Tony Banks (Genesis), Rick Wakeman (Yes), Mike Pinder (Moody Blues), and Manfred Mann (Earth Band). I heard an interview with Wakeman once, and he commented on how poorly they traveled, and required constant setup / adjustments to keep them working.

This is full of warm feeling, and great performances by everyone. Susan's voice reminds me a lot of Bonnie Raitt, and that's meant as a supreme compliment. CG ... I really like the direction you're taking with your weekly Blues Page. Keep it up, man!

Most will remember Pink Floyd's "Umma Gumma" cover from 1969, with the guys changing positions in the inset photos.

Frank Zappa had a lot of crazy album covers, and this one from 1967 is hilarious. Frank made a career out of pushing the boundaries of "good taste" ... with his album covers, his music, his public commenatry, his lifestyle, etc.

Believe    "AA"    Katowicz, Poland, 2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEyzr-f8tcY

This beautiful song is taken from Believe's 2009 studio album "This Bread is Mine". Believe's founder Mirek Gil (formerly of Collage) has been a brilliant guitarist in the Polish prog rock genre for many years, and this "temporary experiment" has ended up producing 6 studio albums to date. The young singer Karol Wroblewski is just 18 years old in this video, and his voice sounds far more mature than his years. Backed by haunting violin work by Japan's Satomi Watanabe, this is from their 2012 DVD "Seeing is Believing".

Dunno if it's relevant to this conversation, but I've never understood the profound effect that music can have on the emotions. There are numerous purely instrumental pieces of music that reduce me to tears, but there are no words or a message associated ... just the music. The final movement of Camille Saint Saens "3rd Symphony", the guitar solo at the end of David Gilmour's "In Any Tongue", Rawlins Cross "MacPherson's Lament", etc. How or why that happens I don't know, but they always elicit tears of joy or sadness.

Very good, UJB! I really got a kick out of the various comments left by other viewers, i.e., "Is mayonnaise a musical instrument?" lol

Uriah Heep's 1972 album "Demons & Wizards", drawn by the amazing Roger Dean. Several of us had a long discussion one evening, trying to figure out where the water was originating from ... one of those wasted nights.

Great article, DE ... thanks for posting. This isn't the first time these things have been observed, but it never hurts to get reinforced on something this important from time to time. Music is so good for so many reasons!

Roxy Music's 1975 album "Siren" featured this beached Atlantean princess (played by model Jerry Hall), whose facial expression can be interpreted as either sad, sinister, or seductive ... a modern day Mona Lisa:

a cover that comes to my mind is the Blind Faith album
when i was a teenager i think the naked girl on the cover was a great selling point.

I remember that Blind Faith cover, EB, and recall that she didn't look more than 12 years old. Roxy Music also used attractive women on their covers (and in their stage shows) to catch a person's attention when browsing the vinyl bins at the local shops. We're all drawn to "pretty people", so it's tried & tested marketing to use beauty to get someone's attention.

Hello, Meame, and welcome to Chordie!

As far as I know, we don't have any members from the Philippines, but there are lots of members who log in regularly but aren't active in the forums. Here's a link to our "map" for you to view, and the link for you to add yourself to it, if you would like to:

https://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic … 34#p167634

As you can see, we're heavily represented in English-speaking countries, so it's a real treat to have you on board. I'll invite you to tell us a bit about yourself, such as your favorites kinds of music, favorite guitars, etc. We've all become better informed musicians by taking part, and we invite you to be a regular.

The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" cover is also iconic ... full of historical faces, including younger versions of themselves. Looks like something Monty Python's Terry Gilliam would put together.

What a name ... wow. It would have to be a terrific product, for someone to have the guts to label it like this. I loved Beamer's distinction between polish & wax. Nice to have the perspective of someone who does extensive auto detailing.
