Titanium strings? I thought he was joking. I've never heard of such a thing. I bet his lawn mower has got a plastic flywheel!
I started another "wood" debate about 7:30 this morning. What a hoot and I am learning new things.

Launching a daughter off to college and a son to the Governor's Honors program. I have a fair amount of busienss travel. i suppose my wife will be home seeking inspriation from the movie "Risky Business"!
So far I've been lucky: I love it!
When I'm away from my guitar due to travel, etc. I miss them and can't wait to get my hands back on them. Like I said, just lucky I guess.

You'll find no shortage of good advice, support, and sarcasm here. I love it!
Zurf,
I too have found iTunes disappointingly difficult to use. IMO, surprising coming from Apple. Yes, Apple's seem to be expensive but, at least in my case, the darn things works every time i open it.
My original goal was to divorce myself from Microsoft. i am over their bloated, always-needing-a patch software but I was forced to load MS Office on my MAC so I could be compatible with the rest of the word. It was a bitter pill only offset by the fact I bought the MS OFfice Suite for $79 at a college bookstore. I would have never paid the $300-400 to buy the retail version.
When I first got the MAC I wanted to throw the thing severals times as i couldn't figure it out - I'm NOT a teen-ager but alas I conquered the differences and now i love it.

+1 Garage Band
I've never used Applecare but I love my Apple. I switched my personal computer to a Mac Book Air about a year ago. I was tired of having to "tune-up" my PC every time i wanted to use it. It was like owning an MG (car) - I always had to be tinkering with it. I'm at a point where while I can tinker I'd rather just drive. My Mac Book Air just works. Simple.
Now I am trying to convert the family through an insurgency I devised (with the help of Apple of course). First, introduce the family to the iPod & iPhone then the iPad, then computers writ large. We have 4-5 iPods in the house, two iPhones, and hopefully Mother's Day will bring my wife an iPad.
Before you know it we will all be speaking Latin and we'll never know what happened. Darn Romans!

I have experienced the "flip side", very rewarding.
"I'm PRETTY SURE it's REAL, because it's heavy."
This is hilarious...and sad.
I could cue up another Monty Python quote regarding the "She's a witch!" scene but I'll leave that to your imagination.
p.s. I've wanted to intervene in other people's purchasing decision so many times. It pains me to see them shopping with NO knowledge of what they are looking for.
l never thought I's see this:
Zep "freak" may not be the right word but I do consider them among the my favorite and very likely THE favorite. I still have all their LPs except one. They haven't been played since the early 1980s as I do not have a turntable or a stereo for that matter. Today it's the iPod.
The trick to that song is to learn the G and D shapes really well. You never really come out of it.
Jerome,
I'm pretty sure I understand what you are saying. I am using You Tube (and Marty Swartz especially) to learn this song. It is not for beginners so it is a big stretch for me but I do love the song so it's worth trying and it will get me out of my comfort zone.

Sorry about "cheating" on Chordie but I do occasionally "drive by" other forums. I thought M.B. - the Chordie wood scholar - would find this humorous:

Yet another lengthy discussion on sapele versus mahogany. One could spend a lifetime debating woods, scale lengths, strings, picks, nut widths, fretboard radii, solid versus laminate, spruce versus cedar versus mahogany. It is so easy to get wrapped up in these debates, and while sometimes amusing, what a waste of time when we all could be playing.
dj
p.s. THIS is what I mean when I use the phrase "all wrapped around the axle" or my abbreviated version "axle wrappage".
I'm talking about a 25.4" versus a 24.9"
Can that small amount make a tangible difference?
I'm also comparing between 1 11/16" nut and a 1 3/4" nut which might have something to do with equation.
Is a short scale guitar any easier to learn hammer-ons and pull-offs with? I am trying to learn Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills and Far Away" which is full of these techniques and more. I am having an easier time with my 000-body than my dreadnought. Real or imagined? Same string brand and size.
Thoughts.
Thanks,
dj
Well, i repaired the washing machine over a week ago, I've been out of the country and no reports of it misbehaving. Heading home in a few hours but it takes 24 hours of travel to do it. Someone give me a sharp pencil so i can gouge my eyes.
...or maybe TWO of these.

I'm glad I'm out of town.
J3,
The ONLY way I know to play two guitars at once. Enjoy!

M.B.,
Excellent. I am impressed...and stand corrected.
Another foul temptress:

p.s. Leaving for the U.S. in a few hours.
Trivia question. Can anyone tell me where this post title comes from? Hint: one of the BEST movies of all time!
p.s. Don't be alarmed by my funky posting times. I do sleep. It's just I'm back in eastern Europe for the week. Sans guitar I'm sad to report.
M.B.
I apologize for not commenting on your EXCELLENT research. In the acoustic guitar world - on the Internet at least - there is no shortage of debate on this very subject. I usually avoid getting involved but I will say your comment/research is the first ever rational, thorough adjunct to the conversation. I rather enjoyed reading it.
M.B. et al:
I have knowingly owned at least two sapele guitars. One was a gem and one was not but this conclusion had more to do with the overall construction, etc. then it did the wood. I am attracted to the Martin 15 series guitars and I see one in my future. It will be mahogany, most likely a 000-15M or 0000-15M although the ubiquity of the D-15M could make it a candidate. I wouldn't rule out a 12-fretter either: 000-15SM or D-15SM.
Therefore I will pass on the Craig's List opportunity.
Thanks to all especially our algebra student and wood scholar, M.B.!

No doubt in my mind this is a sapele model. I usually look for the paper label to read "Mahogany top". I read somewhere Martin typically would not mix sapele back/sides with a mahogany top so if the lable says mahogany I think it's safe to assume it's the real deal.
The 15Ms are also the real deal as indicated by the $1100 price tag. Used one can expect to pay $900 or so depending on many things.
i don't have problem with sapele. I do have a problem with Martin's game of semantics. I think it's bordering on being disingenuous.

A nice Martin 000-15 for $500. Of course I am traveling and cannot seize this excellent deal. Good luck someone.
If it's still around when I return in a week my wife may not get a new iPad after all! Or the iPad will look a helluva lot like a mahogany guitar.:)
