what was this thread about?
Hey detman, I understand your frustration. A couple of years ago my brother in law approached me and asked if I'ld like to be in his band. Assuming he wanted me to play rhythm and do some vocals I agreed. When I showed up at practice that night with my gear I was told to put it back in my car as I was now a bass player. Surprise surprise!! I reluctantly agreed and figured I could probably learn and possibly even enjoy it. Then they dropped the big bomb. They had a gig booked in three days and I had to learn 20 songs! Needless to say the bass line in the songs was not very close to what they were supposed to sound like. We managed to get through the gig and continued to practice together for a couple of weeks and I tried to find time to practice on my own while working a regular full time job with out making my family feel like I didn't have time for them. My bass playing skills improved enough to make me feel I was making progress but evidently not fast enough for anyone else. At our next job I showed up and found another bass player setting up. That's when I found out I was being replaced. I was'nt so much mad as I was dissapointed that my brother in law of 20 years didn't have the decency or the guts to tell me straight up that this was going to happen. I have played with many people over the years and performed on stage many times and too many times I see good people get a "rock-star" attitude. Now i either play alone or with my 15 year old son and my time in the spotlight is limited to my wife's family reunion( where for some reason my brother in law will not play) I hold no animosity for him and continue to wish him luck in his musical endeavors. Some times you have to make your own road and although it may be a lonely trip at least you can command your own destiny. Keep jamming and who knows maybe you'll find someone with the same mindset as you and something will develop
try doing some hammer-ons and pull-offs or do a simple walk between chords. both of these techniques are fairly simple and can add to a song. just remember to keep your timing and don't get frustrated if you stumble around a little
pretty cool site pix. It's amazing how technology has evolved and that sites like this are rather commonplace these days. Now when I was a youngster.....
I've noticed that there is a demand for songs with strumming patterns included. Here is a site that has a wide selection of different styles of music and some but not all have strum patterns with them. You can also set up your search to limit the number of chords in a song and you also have the option of changing the key. A very good and easy to use site. www.e-chords.com Here's hoping this helps some people out.
I'm looking for Pittsburgh to go all the way this year. They've been here before but could never get it done. Here's to Jamie Dixon for lighting a fire under a deserving team. And by the way Cam, I've got Duke meeting Pittsburgh in the semi-finals. Go Pitt!!
I spend a lot of time with my two youngest boys trout fishing on some local streams and perching on the Clarion River. It's become much more enjoyable now that they are old enough to bait their own hooks and take off their own fish. I've had a real passion for fishing for years and I'm glad that my kids share this along with a love for music and other outdoor activities. There are some great spots here for catching everything from catfish to walleye. Any Chordians that happen to travel through western Pa give me a hollar before you come through and maybe we can hook up

I was browsing through my bookmarks and came across a series of links that I had forgotten about. This link will take you to a variety of places for lessons, guitar setup, chord charts and other assorted goodies. Go to www.igdb.co.uk/pages/links/guitar_lessons.htm Also here is a link to a site that has rated lessons www.smartguyreviews.com/guitar.html With the number of people asking for links for lessons and other info I hope these can be useful
I probably cover more Neil Young than anything, followed by Eagles,Lynyrd Skynyrd and CCR.
I had a similar problem several months ago with my phone and internet provider. No service one day,the next day I'd have service then it would dissapear again. After several heated calls to the repair service and struggling to talk to an actual person they finally admitted that something was wrong with the line but they weren't sure what as our neighbors hadn't called. They told me it was obviously a problem with the house wiring and if they sent out a tech I would be charged a minimum fee of $50.00. I informed them the house connections were fine and the trouble lay in their line to my house. They said they had replaced my line and that couldn't be the problem( the line they replaced was neither buried or suspended on a pole, it was laying on the ground). After several weeks and many heated calls they finally got a tech out and he said" Do you know your line is on the ground and appears to be chewed on by some animal?" It took two more weeks to do a study as to where to put new poles in (They had removed them several months before to bury the line, which had never happened) Finally after all this they reinstalled my line and restored my service and sent me a bill for the repairs. I called once more and informed them I did indeed have my service but was not paying for repairs that I had nothing to do with in the first place. I eventually talked to a manger and got the repair charge dropped and also a refund of a months bill. Makes you wonder..
just wasting some time and came across a very difficult Beatles trivia quiz.Follow this link and see how you do http://www.123facts.com/play-quiz/Name- … -1715.html Here is a link to another site where you can find the answers if you do a little digging htttp://lennonchords.info Also at www.123facts.com are a lot of other music quizzes. Check the home page and see what you find. Lots of luck and enjoy
Let's not forget Dick Trickle, a not too successful NASCAR driver (now retired)
I've heard it said that Pennsylvania has only two seasons, deer season and road construction/repair season. Personally I think the first is too short and the second too long. The only good thing about it is when you see the orange barrels and a new crop of potholes popping up you can be certain that summer is coming soon.
a former roommate had a cheap yamaha and a book of CCR songs. I picked out a song that I was familiar with and started making noise. Fast forward thirty years and I'm still making noise but I got to admit I can now make noise with confidence
I saw this on another forum and people seemed to be having fun with it so I figured I'd start a thread here. Looking for quotes from musicians or about music in general. I'll start with: Music is everybody's possession, it's only publishers who think people own it- John Lennon
Hey Pix. Great idea and a daunting undertaking. Here are a couple suggestions almost anything by Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Marshall Tucker Band- Can't You See; Bob Seger- Night Moves; Willy Nelson- On the Road Again and Lynyrd Skynyrd- Sweet Home Alabama. Lots of luck compiling this book, can't wait to see it
who'll stop the rain-CCR A great song for any beginning guitarist
Let's see how many songs we can come up with that have ROAD in the title or in the lyrics. I'll start off with The Beatles - The Long and Winding Road. Have fun
I don't believe there is any "progression route". Each person learns at a different pace and assimilates knowledge differently. Continue on the way you're going and be sure to listen to the songs you're trying to learn. I'll listen to a song anywhere from 4 to maybe as many as 20 times depending on how hard it is to pick out the part I'm working on.Keep adding new challenges for yourself but make sure you don't get discouraged if they don't come easily. There are tons of sites out there to give you basic knowledge but you can't beat hard work and dedication. Keep on practicing.
pretty cool link southpaw. mine is "love letters in the sand " by Pat Boone.According to my one son they had to call the song that as paper hadn't been invented yet. LOL And I have to agree with ozymandias, I never cared for Pat Boone (or his saccarine sweet daughter) and am totally amazed that he had the following that he did. Oh well,ya just never know.
Hey, thanks for the correction guys. I don't recall where I got that specific piece of info but now I've got no idea where he was going with those lyrics. And upyerkilt, Neil along with Crosby,Stills and Nash wrote some of the best songs of the 60's and 70's. Everything from ballads to crank it up rock. To hear some of their earlier stuff check out the Hollies and Buffalo Springfield. All great music. And if anybody has the answer to the Johnny Rotten question, lets hear it.
Go to www.gibson.com for a history of the Gibson and Epiphone brands. Also it's just a real cool site
You can buy single strings on line at www.musiciansfriend.com They have a wide variety of gauges to choose from. I would look closely at where that string is breaking for a sharp spot or burr. I usually over tighten a new set of strings to get them to stretch and have never broken one(although I have had strings break during playing). It could be that you are maybe using cheap strings or that the sweat from your fingers and possibly dirt on your fretboard are causing the high E to corrode faster than the other strings.
