I had originally stated that I had a reissue 1960 Strat. I traded this Sunday for a 1995 USA Tele.  So..Its another New Guitar Day!!  Love the new/ old Tele.

Hi Ian,

I'll usually play whatever the chords are in the verse and go right into singing from there.  Sometimes I'll play through the chords of the chorus and then go into to the verse.  Its pretty much up to you.  If you're trying to make it sound like the original version, sit down with it and listen to it over and over until you figure out what the original artist did.  Sometimes, just a few strums  or a couple of finger picked notes of one chord will do it.  Good Luck!

I have a song book.  I use it at every gig (despite Bob Dylan saying "you better know your song well before you start singing").  In the front of the song book is a list of every song I know.  The rest of the book is mostly lyrics. Some songs have the chords written in them, most do not.  For some crazy reason, I can remember all of the chords but not all the words. The songs are in alphabetical order. I once tried to put them in a "set list" order.  This didn't work even once. My book is broken down by Standard tuning, Drop tuning, Open E/D tuning and Open G tuning.

pfk167,

If you are maxed out and bored with these three.. you should consider a different hobbie.

Ok. I'm willing to trade my 1992 Gibson J-200 for a Rainsong OM1000 (classic series). My J-200 is an unusual plum color with spruce top and tiger stripe maple back, sides and neck.  Pictures available on request. Any takers?

There's something about 92/8 phosphor bronze that I really like.  There's a certain depth and clarity to the sound, plus, I think they're easier to bend.

If you're looking for that particular type of guitar (composite body, solid wood top), I'm not sure that you can beat an Ovation with a Taylor or a Martin... Ovation has been building them longer than anyone that I know of.  Give them a try. You'll save ton of money too!

I'm just thinking here..haven't tried it but if you transposed this to Cm or vise versa.. I think Stray Cat Strut would fit nicely in this chord pattern (maybe?)

Oh no!  Here we go again.

Mistera,  there are numerous threads on this topic and just as many opinions.  If I were you, I'd buy D'addario EXL115 Nickel Blues/Jazz Electric Guitar Strings.  That's what I put on my hollowbodies. They're cheap and they last.

I agree with Doug.  I had a headstock accident over a year ago that is still holding together even though i repaired it myself!.  I like Tite-bond glue and clamps. I used wax paper to keep the glue from getting all over the clamps.  After the glue is set, I'd do what Doug says,  Drill a hole through the beefy part and glue a dowel in the hole.  Cut it flush and finish it off with lacquer. Tell people its a plugged bullet hole from when you played that juke joint back in '63. smile

Astro,

Don't let anybody give you any guff for using a capo. I'm pretty sure that we all use them and there are as many reasons as there are people.  The capo is a tool, just like a thumb pick is a tool or a distortion pedal is a tool.  There's lots of tools for guitars and guitarists.  Some of us are obsessed with acquiring them all!  Use them as you want to explore the instrument and find your own path.

I can't say enough good things about the Fishman Solo amp.  The case even has wheels so you can drag it like luggage! The sound is incredible. It takes one minute to set it up. Its a little pricey but I think its worth it.

Roger,

I don't want to be misleading.  Yes, there are serious dangers involved in truss rod adjustment.  The person doing the adjusting never has any idea of the temper or alloy of the metal that the rod is made of.  Any time that the tightening of the rod requires ANY effort, that's the time to stop and reevaluate what your intentions are. Snapping a truss rod on an acoustic or a set neck electric guitar could be the last thing you do with that guitar. I apologize if this is getting a bit off topic.  I just wanted to reiterate and emphasize Roger's point and correct any misconceptions that I may have created with my earlier post.

Yeah,  I've never understood the two tone knobs on a strat and I own two of them.  I always keep them on 10. As for the switching, mekids is correct about the "5" way switch.  Some people count from the bridge. Some people count from the neck but the function is the same regardless.  Variations of the strat are coming out. As seen with the switching systems on the new Telecasters, I would expect the Strats to be coming out with the new "series/ parallel" switching systems any time now.  At any rate, its all about the sound that you like.  You will find a combination you like.
