Chordie feels just that little bit more complete somehow...

I know how you feel. The guys were saying to me - OK, Al now you have to kiss it and put it back in the water.

I think not! Those things'll take your hand off given the chance. And it wasn't the biggest fish caught that day...

I understand you want as many people to see this as possible but I moved it to "songwriting" where I feel it belongs.

I don't do much fishing, in fact pretty much none, but we were invited out a few weeks ago and I got this....

We had a really good weekend.

In the 80s there was a band from Glasgow called Love and Money. On the release of their 2nd album they toured with many artists including BB King. During this time, as far as I know, James Grant, the bands' singer and guitarist was given a guitar by BB King. Not a bad gift, eh?

I'm going to refrain from all Deliverance jokes because that impressed the heck out of me.

Fantastic, young man.

Now if you want to be a CLASSY professional you need a stool to sit on. The pros are so fickle.

And aint it funny how you sometimes just plain old don't notice the treasures we have til they're almost gone.

The midgies love my wife. She swears by skin so soft. Even standing in clouds of the blighters in Skye she never got bitten. And she usually gets eaten alive just hanging out the washing! I must have too much poison in my blood cos they've never bothered me.

If it is using a version of Windows then it's sure to have Windows Movie Maker on it. Although this can limit the kind of movie file you are using.

I love the different perspectives in the last two posts. Lovely.

Something New Under The Son by Larry Norman has lived with me for a LONG time. It was the 1st album I ever heard that told a story, from start to finish, from the perspective of a lead character.

Green Day's Dookie also made an impact on me. They were the 1st band I'd heard for a long time that had something to say. Agree or disagree, they said it, when most bands of the time had clammed up.

Hi daiz11, I'm no expert and please don't take this as gospel, and also England may be different from Scotland, but I seem to remember something about being able to play 3 instruments. As I say, I could be wrong but that's what's ringing bells in my head.

Good luck with the lessons all the same.

Intro and solos?!?! Are you kidding me? Try doing all that sitting round a campfire or at a party with a good few beers in you. You're just starting out; make things easy for yourself. If I start to play intros all I get is "Ah get to the bit we can sing!"

One step at a time, eh?

Thanks guys, and will do. I've been practicing every day for about an hour for the last two weeks. My only real problem is that I'll play one song (such as Broken by Seether) and then I start to practice other songs (like I'll Be by Edwin McCain). Is this a good thing, switching it up some, or is it better to stick to one until you have it down?

I do this all the time. It's the main reason I still have a lot of difficulty in playing even 1 song from memory. Or maybe I just have a really bad memory. There's nothing wrong with this, it's all about having fun. A friend told me to carry on as I was doing but to keep coming back to the same song over and over. Then at least I'll be able to play 1 song. But I have too much fun and get distracted with other songs all the time. I suppose sticking to the one song til it's perfect could drive you very quickly mad.

It's a hard road isn't it? Sometime we get distracted very easily when things start to get a little more complex. Try and substitute complex for... interesting.

Sounds like you're doing ok just now. Keep practicing your chord changes, even if it's just the same two or three chords over and over. Try not to get ahead of yourself (I'm very guilty of this) and move on to new things before you really have the current things sorted out.

There are loads of tuition websites now that offer good video lessons for all abilities. I always advise having a look at www.justinguitar.com which is free and has loads of good videos on topics like strumming, chords, picking, reading tab, finger exercises, song lessons and ohhhh so much more.

Most of all, don't give up. Always leave a guitar out, in easy reach, so that you don't get out the habbit of picking it up. Pick a song and play it every time you pick up. Play it as often as possible.

I wish I could follow my own advice.

Welcome to chordie - the biggest group hug around.

Newton Fawlkner has done the full version of Bohemian Rapsody live on one acoustic guitar. It's on youtube somewhere. I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

You might like the Ibanez Talman. It comes in 3 different models ranging from $170 to $300. They have an electric sized body and the neck feels just like one on an electric. The tone unplugged isn't very big but when it's plugged in it really comes alive. I almost got one once but i'm 6'4 and large framed with big hands so a small guitar is more of a hassle for me.

I got one of these for my daughter. Nice guitar. It's a very girlie model with a lovely big rose and other lacey type markings on the body. Needless to say she has hardly looked at it. I sometimes play it just to get in touch with my femenine side. lol:lol:

Too much information, I think...

Hey, Roz. I moved your topic in here so that someone with more know-how will have a better chance of seeing it. There used to be an edit option on all the songs on the index, which allowed you to chop and change as you wished, but this has had to be removed because of technical problems. It's a bummer but there's not much we can do but trust the site admin to do his best to keep the site alive. As it is I can only suggest copying and pasteing into word, or something similar, and then re-jigging it in that.

All the very best, and welcome to Chordie.

Mekidsmom, have a look at some electro/acoustic guitars. The body on these tends to be smaller than regular acoustics. I have a Yamaha - take a look at some of my other videos by clicking on the website tab to the left of this post. I am not a big guy (5'6") and also have small hands and find that the Yamaha suits me very well. Well... I like it anyway, and that's all that matters.

This is my biggest problem. It's also why I started to record myself singing and playing. Not only does it point out where I go wrong but it forces me to learn the song well before I record myself doing it. It also means several takes before I can get it all right which also helps me learn the song better.

I guess I try to learn too many at the one time. I keep telling myself to take it one song at a time but I'm so very easily distracted.

Man, I was grumpy yesterday. big_smile

Hi pwk, I moved your thread in here so that someone with more knowlege will have a better chance of seeing it.

As far as I'm aware, as long as you have highlighted the appropriate songbook before you go to the song you are about to add it should be ok. I'm in a similar position with one of my songbooks and this works for me.
