And occassionally I run across B7/9- 1
I believe you subtract the 1 from the 9 before dividing it into the B7, so it becomes B7 divided by 8 which gives you a .... Just kidding, I have no idea what you are looking at, but I bet if you you gave a link to an example, some of the experts here would be happy to help (not me - I'm no expert!)

You may want to check out the FAQ under the resources tab. Chordie is a search engine, songs and tabs are not actually hosted here, so any chord arrangement / fingering you see is actually from another site. That said here are are few links for you if you find an unusual chord. First, Chordie has a pretty cool chord chart, you can click on any chord for alternate fingerings

Sounds great shedboy - I could really hear the '60s british influence, especially on "Straightjacket Blues" (early Who - maybe my favorite band of all time). Which member are you?
Glad to hear you are ok TStrat. It's amazing how those mountains protect us - I live on just the other side, we've got just a bit of wind, and only a sprinkle of rain. I saw some photos of the storms earlier (the carnage left from the storms really) - scary stuff.

Welcome to chordie watsonchad, excellent first post. I enjoyed the humor.
I played guitar and sax as a kid, probably 3 or 4 years in total. Lessons, school orchestra, the whole bit. That was 30 years ago or so. 6 months ago, I was fixing the ceiling fan in my step-daughters room and spotted her beginner Yamaha leaning against the wall. The guitar she HAD TO HAVE for her birthday a few years ago and hasn't been touched since. I suspect she liked some boy who played guitar at the time, and the loss of interest in the boy plus the finger pain relegated it to a decoration instead of an instrument.
Anyway..... I picked that guitar up and have played it nearly every day since. It sounds great to me and I will continue to play it until I find the right deal on the right A/E guitar. I look on craigslist every day for the right bargain, but until I find it, I am good with my cheapo Yamaha.
One cautionary note a friend gave me when he learned that I was trying to write my first useful song: "Never write a song that you can't play drunk."

Welcome to Chordie clansman. Justinsguitar is a fantastic site and is often recommended here. That's where I went also when I first picked back up the guitar, and still go their frequently.
jerome - thank you very much for that clear and concise explanation. I don't believe that could could be explained any better and of course it makes perfect sense. I printed it out to use for my "theory lesson of the week"!

Now I do realize that theory is important and I work a bit on studying something new every week, but damn, it seems like you theorists want to take all the fun out of music. Reminds me of first year college calculus, and I don't ever want to relive that experience!
There should be some kind of rule, like the sum of the chord fingering cannot exceed a total of 10 or something (barre chords excluded), I mean what the hell is an A13 (575657), LOL
I absolutely agree with netzcoyote - I don't like to get hung up on an exact strumming pattern, listen to the song, feel how it sounds, strum along and before you know it, your rendition sounds pretty good even if it's not exact.
Neat song Midnight, but one thing confuses me.
You had pocket aces, plus an ace on the river. Add that to the 2 kings on the flop and your full house beats his flush. Now if he had a ace high straight flush you do lose, but the odds of that with the other 3 aces on the board in your favor are astronomical - (I bet James could figure it out). Maybe you want to change the "ace high flush" to "straight flush". Still a cool song - and I liked chords too ON.
Thanks for bringing this old thread new life oldnewbie. I know Ray Charles won't get much respect on this guitar themed site, but IMO he was definitely one of the elite great American artists.

D - The admins here are volunteers who do it out of passion for music and the site. I encourage you to read the FAQ in the resource tab. Chordie is a neat story, it was started as a hobby (and still is really) by the site owner, a guitar player, who built a search engine to help him find music. No songs are hosted here, and there are rules against even posting lyrics. When you see a song, it is actually from another site, Chordie just formats them in a user friendly manner.
Wow NELA - That is a GREAT story! would love to hear or see some clips of those jams on youtube my friend.
My youngest son (9 yo) eats his dinner one item at a time, actually rotates the plate as he finishes one thing, then goes to the next. Myself, I like to sample or enjoy everything at the same time. I have even been known to eat potatoes and peas on the same bite - egads!
What I'm saying is it may a personal choice in how you prefer to learn. Like I said earlier, if would focus on just barre chords, I don't know if I (or my guitar) would make it, I'd probably pull a Pete Townsend on the darn thing!

What you are looking at is a "tab" or guitar tabulature. Another chordie member posted a link on how to read tabs that you can find in this post:

Ranger - the difference between flatpicking and fingerpicking, in flatpicking you actually use a pick, finger picking - fingers only. Some also use a hybrid method - but I don't even want to think about that yet!

Thanks for that 5min video you had sent me a week ago or so. I've been working on that pattern for a while, and that video made it "click". I've got it down pretty good now, but that just leads to learning... more patterns!
