Very cool SOT - I'll be looking for you on magazine covers soon!

My first impression of that guitar was if BatMan played the guitar, that would be it!

Hi OLL - maybe The Kinks covered these tunes?

Juke Box Hero? - by Foreigner
Heart of Gold - Neil Young
Rock N Roll Fantasy - Bad Company

You can find those songs here on chordie - Sometimes I find it helpful to search under the "Songs" tab instead of artist - songs are not always categorized correctly, or are sometimes listed under cover versions instead of the originals.

Hope that helped!

hi wight4256 and welcome to chordie!

It sounds like you got right regarding chords and tabs, so you are well on your way! Regarding strumming patterns, I find it best to listen to the song (usually over and over...) and get a feel for the rhythm and pattern used. I also find it handy to search you tube for decent covers and see how they are strummed. Good Luck!

paddycake - chordie has disabled the ability to post pictures here due to posting of porn by a bunch of spammers. You can post your pictures to sites like flickr ( http://www.flickr.com/ ) and provide a link to them here.

Come on folks, I know there's a bunch of good ones out there. I do like southpaw's, such a positive message. Here's another good one I've heard of (I think it's Irish smile ):

hey daddycool, I am by no means the authority here, but I thought I would try to answer your question. I believe you would have to post your song at another web site and then request chordie link to that site / song. Other admins - please chime in if I am incorrect.

From the FAQ:

I am an artist, and would like to have my songs listed on Chordie. How?
Make it available online in chopro-format. Here is an example of a song in this format. You will most likely be able to write this in a text editor like Notepad, but there are some graphical tools available as well. When you've done that, send me the address, and I will include it in Chordie.

I’m sure we all have heard many sayings to help us remember the strings on a guitar. I thought it would be fun to hear others favorites. The one that “stuck"  with me is:

Eddie
Ate
Dynamite
Good
Bye
Eddie

O-N - check the "musicians" topic under the community forum of your local craigslist. I posted a "looking to jam" message on my local list a few month's ago - spelled out exactly that I was a beginner, acoustic, etc. just looking to have some fun. Well....after exchanging a few emails with a bass player, we finally hooked up last night. I HAD A BLAST! He is an older fella and he had a full "studio" in his basement. Drum set, PA, drum machine, the whole bit. It was awesome. I was actually very pleasantly surprised at how good it sounded. There was very little "chit-chat" - he was like "play these chords in this progression", and got right to it. We played for about 3 hours straight. This dude has a few other guys that get together regularly and I definitely will be going back.

FWIW -  Guitar Center, Musicians Friend & Music123 are all owned by the same company. They also own / run Harmony Central.

I recently picked up a Washburn Rover travel guitar so I had something to practice with in the hotel room when I am traveling for work. My 9 year old son loves it and for $150 you can't go wrong. The only drawback is you have to use a strap because of balance. It obviously is not very loud, but that is a benefit is some cases (like playing in a hotel room, or listening to your 9 year old). smile

I'm not with you on the Carpenters (though part of it is my wife's a big fan and from November to January I have to sit through countless hours of their Xmas album) BUT Hall and Oates? I must ask older or newer. I think Sarah Smile is a fantastic song and I feel no guilt saying so. However, "Your Kiss is on My List" will bring on pretty severe nausea

How did you hear that, I whispered smile.
My only comment is that there is no "newer" Hall and Oats - You must be as old as I am big_smile

Ditto what Roger says regarding tempo, and I will add it is helpful for me to use a metronome. Start slow and speed it up as you improve. The metronome is great for me because I can then easily track my progress. Here's the free online one that I use:

Sorry Hoibie, I can't really help you here. My tab reading experience and skills aren't as developed as some of the experts here. Maybe someone else will chime in.

A few things that might help though - I have found that tabs are not an exact science, individuals who share and post their tabs often have their own idiosyncrasies regarding notations, etc. There is a basic "standard", but I find there are many variations to that standard. One thing that may be helpful, is to click on the "Source: original song" link (on the right side of the song page) and sometimes there are notes that will help you decipher the hieroglyphics.
