It's quite a catchy tune!  I too would love to see the lyrics, this Yankee has a hard time with accents... and that's my problem of course not yours!  smile

the answer is yes I am trying to dump the cable but now I dont know if the wireless is that much slower I could grow a beard waiting to upload I'll have to give it a little more thought thanks everyone for taking the time to give me some answers not sure yet what I will decide on.. hmm smile

Well... if it's just because you're mad at the cable company - and not a matter of money - you may want to look and see if the phone company has a high speed plan available in your area.  Verizon now has FIOS service here in NY and it claims to be just as fast as (or faster than) cable.  DSL is also a choice (again, via the phone lines) and from what I hear it is slower than cable but not too bad.  Then there's also satellite service which uses a combination of downstreams via satellite (pretty fast) and upstreams via either DSL (pretty fast) or traditional dial up (you'll bake an entire loaf of bread before you get that 5M file uploaded).

If you can do what Doug_Smith suggested and check to see if there is an open wifi connection via your laptop (or a friend's) and see how the speed is, that might be a good option... but again like he said, you are then subject to having zero connection if the owner of the wifi decides on a whim to lock it up or turn it off for any reason.  Plus, if it is a place like Starbucks, you're subject to slow speeds during their peak usage.

Good luck!

Hmmm... are you trying to lower your bills by completely dumping cable, or do you just no longer want the computer where it is connected to the cable? I think you might miss your high speed connection if you completely dump it (uploads will be super slow, downloads not so bad). Do you know if there is an open free wifi hotspot that you can pick up a connection?

Very nice poem/lyrics there!  Right away I heard a tune in my head, but I'd love to hear what you come up with.  Slow and easy and country for sure!  smile

Welcome to the site and the forum Wickersley!  Yup, jump right in on some discussions.  There's lots of folks here to help you out, and who would love your input as well!  smile

I am still amazed at how wonderful this came out!  Of course, I knew that choosing talented musicians to help make the song come to life would make a huge difference!  Thank you everyone for your kind comments.  Ian - I am quite honored by the compliment smile  Thank you very much!

BTW ... JJ was on the finger picking rhythm, I did vocals and rhythm strumming, and Russell did everything else!  Russell and I both did a portion of the mixing as well.

Toots, sorry to hear about being canned...  All worked out in the end, you got your ballad gig back and there aren't too many hard feelings.  The bonus is you have a good story to tell and Casey does too!  I can hear him at school now, "yup, me and the Popster got fired for rocking out the old folks!  They just couldn't handle all our awesomeness!"  LOL!

A NEW update to this song!!!  I am excited and pleased to announce a Chordie Collaboration on this song has been completed!  Special thanks to JJ Akerman (aka kajima) and Russell Harding!  If you enjoyed my acoustic version, you're going to LOVE this collaboration!  This was completed as an anniversary gift to my husband, Jim (our anniversary is this coming Tuesday the 14th of September).  He was BLOWN away by the surprise and completely in AWE of Russell's lead steel!  Thanks again guys... I hope you all enjoy this:  http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9527920

Hi junas and welcome to Chordie and the forums if no one has welcomed you yet!  One of the trickiest things (after learning chords) is to learn different strum patterns and apply them.  The more you play, the more you'll start to hear the different patterns.  There are so many different pattern possibilities, and while that's the beauty of the guitar, it helps to have something to start with.  Remember that MOST (not all) songs are in some type of 4 beats per measure so try what you can to fit a pattern into 4 beats (tap your foot and strum).  There's a few ideas here:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11132 - when I started I did a basic down-up-down to four beats... some do down-up-down-up as it fits easily with one strum per foot tap.  If you have a song in particular that you want help with, you can ask here on chordie or even go to youtube and search for the song along with the word "tutorial" and they will usually include a strumming pattern along with chord progression.  Above all... practice!  Good Luck!

Great job Russell!  Thinking outside the box sure does make a difference, add a few good skills and you've created something quite unique with lowering the action on that one!  smile

I didn't see anything about duct tape, a must for any true redneck luthier.

Ha ha ha!  So true though  lol

I was reading a book.  My husband had been working in NYC the week before that, but he was in Albany the day of the attacks (we weren't married yet). His mother called me freaking out wanting to know where he was. After I told her, and asked what was wrong she told me to tun on the news and promptly hung up. I watched the second plane and DC and PA all live on TV... it was just horrifying.

My three year old gets in the way of what I'd like to be doing from home (having a client in my chair getting chemical services on her hair while the 3 yr old is dumping an entire bag of dog food on the kitchen floor is not cool).  I miss being out and about, though for the most part I've been the sahm or wahm.  I feel your pain... and gladly await the day when I can either afford a babysitter or she is in school.  I guess the bonus to my situation is that I do have real live people that come to see me.  I hated making cold calls from the house while selling, partially cuz I hated it, partially because friends and family would just come knock on the door and not respect my working hours.  I usually either hid my car, or drove to the town I'd be making appointments in and made calls from my cell so that I was away from the house.  I like Butch's idea best!

Hey Jim, glad to hear that you had a blast!  Being inside any recording studio would be a fun trip for me, inside one that many of the greats have recorded in would just be icing on the cake!  Awe inspiring I am sure.  Please do post some pictures for us!  Here's a thread on how to do that if you need some help :http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14150

Mike, while I'm thrilled to pieces that crime scene's haven't corrupted my mind on big cities... I have been to NYC.  The first few times I was there I was quite grossed out.  Hookers, graffiti, homeless on the dirty streets, cart vendors that looked like they hadn't washed their hands in the past year.  But, the last time I visited I actually stayed at my friend's father's house on the Island and we road the train into the city.  I saw an even dirtier (crabbier) side of it all on the train (my friend kept warning me not to make eye contact with people, we don't talk to strangers here! What?  Here we are on a train with people, TONS of people, they're bumping into me sharing my personal space and I am not supposed to make small talk? LOL... geez, if I can't make small talk I might end up feeling like I have to punch that guy if he bumps into my hip again with his bike!) ... with all that said, I learned WHY people in NYC are so crabby, and I sat back as I wasn't allowed to talk to people.  I made a point to just take in and try to enjoy the sights.  Graffiti suddenly had beauty, stations echoing had tone, and on our way back out, while driving over the bridge I actually envisioned the smog as a protective dome over the entire thing.  NYC is unlike any other city I've been in.  It sure is NOT Buffalo or Syracuse!  I realize I probably was just far too high from all the fumes, but if you try you can see the good in just about anything you put your mind to!  wink  I'll bet if you were visiting Nashville with the PLAN of VISITING (and not checking out a crime scene), you'd find a way to enjoy it!

Mama says, "clean your room" ...
Clutter in your physical space and in your mind can cause the type of feeling that you won't ever get anywhere.  It's not a good feeling to have.  Sometimes you need to sit back and take a look at it, make a reasonable list of things that you can get done and scratch them off.  Having a list of things that you KNOW you can accomplish will give you something to strive for.  Actually scratching them off your list will help you feel accomplished.  You have the right idea with making a list.  And I don't know where you play your guitar, but if it's in your room, maybe having a nice clean (uncluttered) space will help you to enjoy it more.  I do know that having clutter in the way can make doing nearly anything else a frustration, and like I said that goes for clutter in your mind as well.  (that mental list of to-do's is mind clutter).

Remove the clutter from your space, you will remove clutter from your mind, and have freedom to enjoy the things you want to enjoy.  Just remember, IF you are going to make a list, it needs to be one that you CAN accomplish in the time you give yourself.  Don't go on a 5 hour cleaning/decluttering mission.  Sit down and make a list for 5 minutes, take 15 minutes to do each task and see what you can get done in an hour.  You'll be AMAZED at yourself Taylor... remember, some of the things on the list could be as simple as "Call Grandma and thank her for the cookies she sent", or "clean out that drawer which is just collecting junk"... and then you may just be inspired to see what you can get done with the guitar in the next hour!

wow, you want ALL the variations for EVERY chord?  That sounds like a lot of printing.  There are lots of chord books out there that you can purchase that will show many variations of many chords.  I suppose if you wanted to try printing each one from chordie you'd have to open up each page (click the chord shape, variations page will open) and print.

Interesting, I was having some carpal tunnel symptoms when I was typing a lot more... the guitar doesn't seem to bother me at all however.  Hmmm... then again, I also don't play as much as you probably do.  sad  When I type a significant amount, I do still get some flare ups.  Have you tried some compression wraps while playing?  Also, since carpal tunnel syndrome has to do with the wrist/hand carpel bones pressing together, I have found that gentle massage pulling the bones away from one another (pressure middle of the hand top and bottom and gently pull and massage toward the thumb, repeat going in the direction of the pinkie) seems to help a lot with easing the pain before putting the splints on at night.  Of course, the surgery is an option... but my mother had that and her hands/wrists still bother her (waitress).  GOOD LUCK!
