I just wanted to tell that a chat corner is a chat corner, we use it for facts gossip contacts, building and working to have the occasion to meet everybody, and talking with "cyber friends", who I like to meet one day in real, and having a gigantic jam session.

How many of us still remember the controversy when their album ABBEY ROAD came out.
After all those years almost 30 years, people still doubt.
Was it PUBLICITY?, well it had at least an impact on everybody.
Remembering the picture on the sleeve, and seeing indeed a more unusual sir Paul the mystery remains. At that time I was about 13 years old, so I hope to get answers from other chordians, who were huge Beatles fans, or who can explain how this "incredible stunt" started.
A lot of people also believe that Elvis is still alive, and watching movies, I admit that it is a little bit funny, at least when living in Europe, the expression "Elvis has left the building"

I am more or less familiar with punk music, like the SEX PISTOLS, back in 1977, when I was 22 years old. It was a kind of music movement hating people like Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and a lot more. Their slogan was NO FUTURE, because as far as I know, they were afraid of the future. But on the other side, except for their music, WHAT WAS THEIR CONTRIBUTION, and 30 years later, they are having reunions (like Johnny (Lydon) Rotten) to have money.
They were against the so called "establishment"against the rich people, and I have only 1 answer they cheated us all. Did they ever burn money, or refuse money? A very interesting fact was that the Sex Pistols received a lot of money by a label to terminate the contract, they are still holding the record of best paid artists to be kicked out. At least one man got rich here MALCOLM MC LAREN, I also don't believe that they couldn't play an instrument.

BUT THIS TOPIC IS ABOUT WHEN AND WHERE THE PUNK MOVEMENT AND MUSIC STARTED.
Iggy Pop and the Stooges, the New York Dolls (not you old doll) are considered as the founders or fathers of punk.
Where did it come from, is it an EVOLUTION of a music style, and is it still there? Green Day?
I would really love to share opinions.

They still write that Elvis is still alive, like they also wrote that Paul McCartney was dead, because of the sleeve of the album abbeye road.
To conract spirits, I don't know, and I am very interessed in a lot of things who are called "paranormal." You have to admit that there are a lot of (strange) facts you can't explain.
I wanted to ask something, about haunted places. If you watch a movie, or read articles, I have the impression that the most of them are in England. I confess that I never visited a haunted house, and it is not because you see nothing that there IS NOTHING. Can people see a virus, using just their eyes? NO, but still it exists, example AIDS virus. I admit that I am open 100% for this very interesting item, and sometimes, when playing guitar, I have the impression, is it real or not?, that suddenly having a deceased artist in my mind, I start playing more in the style he used, and MORE, I have the impression that on some moments, I play twice as good, asking myself why. I hope to see more answers on this topic.
Greetings

well, this word kill switch is new for me, I don't know what it means or what purpose it has. Can you tell me more about this paranormal? Also talking about guitars, which is your favourite, and especially WHAT is a kill switch. On this one I am completely ignorant. Do you mean, a switch, like a 5 way switch on a fender? What kind of music do you play and what kind of guitar do you have, last thing, do you play for a public?
Thanks

Thanks chewy, I love this site everyone is equal, the older generation like me (52 y) have maybe more experience, and playing for years, we learn a lot from youngsters, who have another style. But 1 important fact will always return, THE LOVE FOR MUSIC AND GUITARS.
I don't know your age, but I admit, that my first guitar was a Gibson Les Paul Studio, in 1994, got it very cheap, and if you go to websites like www.music123.com or www.zzounds.com, you will really discover the guitar world. As it always is, you will find a lot of instruments, from cheap (but quit good) to expensive. There is no need to buy a new one, but it gives you a pretty good idea about all different instruments. Don't forget to visit the website of the guitar goeroe Gruhn, in Nashville.
www.gruhn.com. THIS ARE GUITAR SITES and not HUMBUCKER sites.
I have the luck to own a pretty nice collection, starting with changing the studio in 1997, for a PRS custom 24 full option. At that time here in Europe only a few people knew PRS. Until today, having Gibsons, Fender Tele (sounds incredible) in a light, dirty green colour, California Beach was the name of these kind of guitars, and only available in Europe. You had 2 strats and 1 tele, in limited production, and sorry for writing about this, my tele is a reissue from a telecaster 1952, and if you see the simplicity of the construction, I am still amazed hearing the sound.
I am more a PRS man, I have also a PRS SE Tremonti, and the SE series are affortable and the sound is real great.
I should give you also an advise to see what's going on, on eBay. It is still possible to do nice bussiness and you will also find humbuckers.
I hope that, if you love music and guitars, that you like these sites.
Keep looking for humbuckers, and as far as I know, on the Gibson site, you can hear the sound, and differences from a few humbuckers.

The TOMCAT, better TANGLEWOOD guitars, look really nice to me.
Is your guitar looking like a Gibson Les Paul? I am not aware of the wood they use, and not at all about the coils or Humbuckers. I and maybe other fellow chordians, can probably give a more correct answer if your description is better, concerning the type of your TANGLEWOOD. I just look to the Tanglewood site, and I was really amazed, those guitars are really beautiful. Never sell this guitar, and if you do, contact me first (joke). They have quit a choice. I am honest, I know that Tanglewood produced guitars, but I never looked on their website.
If your guitar looks or is like a Gibson (les paul style) I suggest to take a look on www.gibson.com, where you will find their models, also their humbuckers. You can even listen to the sound of some humbuckers. Remember that when they put other humbuckers, you get the old humbuckers back.
There is also EMG, DiMarzio. On the DiMarzio I found this: Evolution neck and bridge humbuckers, with the follow comment:  with the right sound for a very demanding player: Steve Vai and his Ibanez.
I think, it ain't easy to find the humbuckers you have in mind. Gibson humbuckers have a more fat sound.
I own a few Paul Reed Smith guitars, I also have a special PRS, in fact 3 guitars, only produced in the USA for a short period (1990-1992) and the have LINDY FRALIN pick ups.
www.fralinpickups.com, you really need to see these humbuckers.
There is one member, who really knows almost everything about humbuckers: bootleger. Try to look after him, he knows really a lot. But at the end, you can maybe be confused about all those humbuckers, so my advise is, look on the sites I gave you, and MORE IMPORTANT, see EMG, GIBSON, LINDY FRALIN, DiMarzio. It is almost impossible to find a humbucker that wouldn't be the one your looking for.
You can even do what I did on a Gibson Les Paul Custom, 1 single coil, one double coil; gives a spectacular sound.
Good Luck, I hope I could help you.

Hi again paranormal,  I am afraid that I had a similar problem. I never get farther than , at this moment, and 30 years ago. Did you know that somewhere outside, and I talk about  big names, that A LOT of musicians start getting very, very nervous, they have almost the same kind of stress we had going to college when the time was there for an exam. I was blessed, thanks to my profession, to be "backstage doctor" and only for the artists. I had the honour that I was invited ON STAGE, to see the professional music groups. Before I knew, did the job about 15 years, AND, every year, I had a real nice experience. BUT THERE WERE RULES
- DON'T DISTURB, was the most important rule.
I can only tell what I saw, before performing, they were so nervous, that it's almost impossible to perform. BUT once on stage, there was areal metamorphosis (= they all changed) and they played a very, very good gig, a lot of times I was invited by the artist, so YOU CAN TASTE A LITTLE BIT, on stage, when they played. Some groups had more than 50 guitars, and they had a special technician, who tuned their guitar too, wish I had taken one. But on stage it affects you, it is/was an experience, better experiences, and your body is full of adrenalin it is like YOU are a member of the band, and once when it was already quit dark, with the CURE.
Imagine, 60000 people a lot of lighters it feels, even after all those years I still think about this.
Don't panic, I think that if you compare 10 groups, 9 of them will be nervous. I don't lie or exagerate, once on stage you get a kick. Even after 40 years, the rolling stones are nervous. Fact is, I saw it with my own eyes, because they changed very quick into a situation which is not healthy ONCE ON STAGE: a metamorphosis. I saw so much artists, and I was for a long while in contact with Dave Grohl, he told me too, that since the foo fighters, he is more nervous than in Nirvana. Often you can see the drummer, more difficult, he didn't suffer a lot when still in Nirvana, and Cobain got all the attention.

Well, me too, he had some hard critics, I was maybe part of it, but reading my posts again, I don't think I offended him, at least I hope so, because I always told him that he was welcome.
Some people are sensitive, that's for sure, no names, but I wrote genes, first I thought that it was wrong, but it isn't, and it was interpreted as jeans. Ah, it is just a wrong interpretation, that's why I wrote this topic, and I do hope to have a lot of responses. It is not a topic about "excuse me" or "sorry", just to let the people know that we will never write, or give wrong, or aggresive answers, with a mentality that everyone is different (look just to people having the opportunity to go to college, and others not), and it ain't about being smart, or hey guys, I jam every weekend with Eric Clapton.
It's all about respect, peace, helping each other. Isn't that the purpose of music.?

It is a common thing, borrowing other peoples songs. Or especially in BLUES, a lot of songs are almost identical.
Can we still speaking of borrowing, or is it STEALING.
Don't forget, if you see the chords that there are only 7 chords A  B  C  D  E  F  G, and of course the derivates like Am or A7, if you can play these chords, you are even able to create very good music. That is the main reason, why I have a tremendous respect for Bob Dylan, he wrote pearls of songs, just using 3 or 4 chords and using only A B C D E F G.
But crossroads, can be indeed a "clapton" version, it is more than enough to "borrow" a blues song, to play it a lot faster and just check the result.

Me again, forgot to ask something. I am glad in your place concerning that MARTIN-D42, I smuggled 4 years ago, a MARTIN D-45, from Gruhn, Nashville to Belgium ( I knew the serial number, and a friend wrote me a letter, that he sold me that guitar, with the serial number on it), you never know.
But my question was: is there a difference in sound between those two guitars. I agree, when I come to Canada, we can compare them, but before showing up there we can maybe get an answer and bootleger is a specialist in these things.
WHERE ARE YOU BOOT, we need your opinion

Strange question, but it is something else.
So here I go: what if you receive 10.000$, BUT you HAVE TO BUY A , or MORE GUITAR WITH THAT MONEY, NO BUT'S, YOU HAVE TO BUY, what guitar will be your choice, or maybe what guitars will be your choice.
My Choice
- Paul Reed Smith: I would try them out, from standard series up to special. If I have $ left:
- I would go acoustic, probably a very nice sounding Taylor.

WHAT ABOUT YOU FOLKS?

Hey James, this is a problem, worse than cocoroaches, in dutch it is named kakkerlak, you have to be so careful these days, spam here, spam there, spam emails, these are the worst. If I should react, and if it should be true what they write, I should be lying under the Carribean sun. Once I was victim of identity theft, 50% my fault, on eBay, it is linked on a special email and every single thing concerning eBay appears in My eBay, but just one second of not paying attention, problem.
Spamfilters or not, I receive mails, even the person who should receive it, his name is not mine and yet I receive a mail. HOW TO AVOID SPAM? The person who finds a real good solution will drawn in his money.

Sometimes it is a little bit sad that there are what I call, communication problems.
- the site and forum are international, and sometimes NON ENGLISH members have difficulties to find the right word. Writing a WORD WIMAN IN STEAD OF WOMEN, or WOMAN as example.

I am glad that this is not a Chinese site, it would really problematic, don't they have about 4700 different characters? Some words that we pick up are slang: a VERY WELL KNOWN WORD, WE STILL WRITE A LOT, IF WE ARE WRITING ABOUT PINK FLOYD is UMMAGUMMA, a British SLANG word for SEXUAL INTERCOURSE.
It would sound funny to ask in the UK, and how is your Ummagumma today.

- sometimes, you get answers or questions, written in a more aggressive style not on purpose, but communication is never easy, even in a relationship, NO communication= PROBLEMS.
- Other people like to joke, while others don't.

I am not a moderator, not an administrator, I am just a very happy member, finding people, sharing the same passion: MUSIC.
I am not afraid to tell that I am disabled because of an accident, hit a tree driving 90 km /h =
60 miles / hour. Chance to survive 1/1000.000, and the 1 who did: 80-90% doomed to a life in a wheelchair. I am a very blessed person, I must have a very good Guardian Angel, because it is still possible to walk, using canes (? is this correct?). I have no progression at all, but my days are never boring.
I really own a lot to CHORDIE and YOU ALL MUSICIANS, it really helps me to meet "soul mates", I feel very comfortable here, trying to LEARN and WRITING MY OPINION, or ABOUT certain skills.

I was always told that music was bringing people closer, but there are (a very few) people writing answers in a way that can hurt somebody else, hurt is maybe a big word, because it is almost always a misunderstanding.
So please DON'T interprete some answer, as if you are attacked or under fire.
Every person has his style of writing. We find on chordie all different kinds of people, from a CEO to youngsters 14 years old.
Here I want to make clear that I, and probably the most of us, have absolutely no intention to give critics on a topic, or an answer. If it happens, at least in my case, you should know that one person is writing in a different way than another, I WILL NEVER OFFEND A FELLOW CHORDIAN ON PURPOSE.
Every person is unique, and should be treated with respect, no matter what intentions he might have, and no matter the why they write. Like in music, you will detect talented and performing people, same with writers (I am not Hemingway)
We all have an email, and I suggest to avoid a dispute on this beautiful site, that if someone feels as he is attacked personally, he has to understand that problems, almost all problems can be solved.
I CAN ONLY REPEAT THAT MUSIC IS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, BRINGING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TOGETHER, THAT'S WHAT I LOVE HERE.
I do understand that sometimes, obvious if you know that there are a few generations here, there can be a problem, but is it really worth to attack someone.
I have to thank my profession, because I learned so much when still working. I hope that when
you read this, to have reactions and opinions about this topic.
What I do hope is that this topic is not offending somebody, because that is the essence of this topic.

LOVE YOU ALL

Speaking of musicians, a great talent, great songs, and a kind of virtuosity on guitar is not the way to stardom. There must be 1000ths of groups, out there, even great musicians, who never get farther than their rehearsal place, they don't see a stage, and they, at least a few, are just happy that way.
So, what is necessary to grow, talking about people who play since years together, and who developed in skilled players, what is the missing link?
Do you really need a manager, someone who creates a special outfit? Firing a few members?
If you see the beatles, they changed the drummer Pete Best for Ringo Starr (who had already tasted a little bit of the success cake?
Same happened to the Rolling Stones, I think Ian Stewart, who was in fact a kind of member in their very early years, and who played a lot with them after this decision. He didn't fit the profile, a sentence people use too often.
Or is it a kind of FEAR to play for a PUBLIC?

I didn't know where to post it, so I did it here.
Most of us are guitar players, so I was just a little bit curious about "loving or playing" other instruments. I can play guitar, only guitar, but instruments I adore are for example
- hapsicord: I named it a pianoguitar. The rolling Stones used this instrument on some of their old records, like "sweet lady jane".
I even prefer this instrument above a piano, and probably, if I should buy a very good keyboard, you can play this instrument.
Are there chordians who know more about this instrument.
What is next to your guitar(s) your favourite instrument, and can you play it?

Love ya old doll, I will post some more facts, later.
I love this site, and the people here, sometimes there can be a problem, but I think that this site is very open and honest.
Coming back to your topic about plectrums, I don't know if I'm right, is that long times ago (when the animals were still talking) they used pieces of turtle, not the body, but, I don't know the word, so I write his home.

So genes is the correct word. It was maybe a bit confusing, but it's like I wrote, why are there generations of people, certain families, doing the same job?
I think that what I wrote is very close to the answer on this question.
But bootleger, talking about genes, is really complicated, you have dominant genes, or genes that if both man and wife have, are hidden, not dominant are "popping up"because they both have them.
I do agree with paranormal, but as you can read in my answer, there are more things than genetics. About in your heart and soul YES, just compare a song performed by many artists.
BUT I DON'T KNOW why some people are drowning in talent, and others not. I JUST KNOW THAT IF YOU ARE BLESSED WITH A TALENT: USE IT, I know people, musicians, so talented, but they don't use it.
Para, I hope you have a better idea concerning your topic. Anyway, you receive "genetic material" from AND your father AND your mother. We should have a topic about genetics, it is very fascinating and very strange. If you like more info, I mail it to you. BTW how old are you?
Why this question, because being "chordians" we like to share our knowledge, more specific, we love to learn from young and old.

To start again about old worn out guitars, what is your opinion concerning the, I talk about Fender to be more specific, who designed there RELIC GUITARS?
You can have, matter of speaking, a 100% "replica" of the fender played by RORY GALLAGHER.
What I also would like to know, in addition of those old guitars, paranormal is, can you still use them, to play. And what's your opinion about these "relics", if you see the guitar, you won't even buy it, because most people like brand new and fancy guitars.
There is a reason why the Gibson Les Paul Standard guitars, almost 50 years old (58, 59 and 1960) are so expensive, and sometimes, they look very ugly.
If you have an old guitar, don't change too much, because the price drops a lot.
What kind of guitar(s) you play, do you play already long? The song you mentioned, I have to admit that I don't know that song. I am born in 1955, and I play a very long time, with the classical ups and downs, I know a lot about music, but I am always greedy to learn, or to talk about skills.
My oldest guitar, also worn out, but not too much is a genuine US Fender Strat 1964.
You can still find those guitars you wrote about, in pawn shops, but they start to know the prices, 30 years ago, you could do real good business. You still can because of the low $.
See you later

I love topics like this, as you might know, I have a few similar topics, in Chordie's chat corner too, and they are all titled facts.
- SINGING IN THE RAIN: Gene Kelly, a movie song, end 4ties, or 5ties?
- SPRING, SUMMER, WINTER and FALL: by Aphrodite's Child, for those who don't know this band, they are a band in the sixties, 3 members, having a few real "goosebump" songs, like I Want To Leave and here another song fitting here, a very "PACHELBEL: CANON OF pachelbel to be specific, orientated song RAIN & TEARS. Maybe if I write the name of 2 members: VANGELIS and DEMIS ROUSSOS, a bell start ringing.
- NOVEMBER RAIN by GUNs' & ROSES.
- FOUR SEASONS in ONE DAY by Crowded House
- ITS RAINING MEN by different performers, but I am not sure: Geri Halliwell (ex spice girl)
- WEATHER WITH YOU by crowded house again
- SHE'S A RAINBOW: by The Rolling Stones
- RIDERS ON THE STORM by The Doors
- FOUR SEASONS by Vivaldi (classic composer, a few 100 years ago)
- The RAINSONG, by LED ZEPPELIN
- ABOUT TO RAIN by Neil Young
- ALL I NEEDED WAS THE RAIN by Elvis Presley
- ALABAMA RAIN by Jim Croce
- IT NEVER RAINS IN (SOUTHERN) CALIFORNIA by Albert Hammond
- BABY CAN YOU STOP THE RAIN by Luther Vandross
- HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN by Creedence Clearwater Revival
- I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN by TINA TURNER, there are far more performers
- NAKED IN THE RAIN by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I also add the name of a group, where the late Jaco Pastorius was a member: WEATHER REPORT

If you like I can add a lot more, but it is really a nice topic, please enjoy and continue

The lads didn't destroy those songs, you have to be proud that he performed already. What guitar is he playing on? I think that it must be easier for a kid to perform, than for older young people. They are a lot less influenced by critics, everybody tells them that it was fantastic AND IT IS FANTASTIC. I was convinced that miracles didn't exist, but once you grow older, you start to worry maybe 10% about your gig, but 90% about what "girlfriends" will say, other youngsters, and don't forget the jealousy.
Don't Know if you agree, if yes, answer me, if no answer me too.

CONGRATULATIONS to your son, and THE PARENTS, who made this dream to a reality, it wouldn't work without your efforts, but performing this, I really like to see, or hear them. Don't know how, youtube?

That story please use it to write a song. I am pretty sure you will find very easy a song about this, like you wrote, very rare situation and the odds are very much like you wrote.
If you feel the music IN YOU caused by this event, if it went straight to your heart, if it touched your emotions: PLEASE WRITE A SONG, and I think we would be pleased if you like to put it on chordie.
Some things are so rare, and almost, I said almost, not always, impossible to imagine, and I didn't have much luck the last years, and this give questions, that no one can answer.
WHY, HOW, WHAT is there a coincidence or is it planned? I've been through a lot. But
I had a patient once, where a daughter gave birth on exact the same day, as her own mother. This is also difficult to believe, but there was a situation, meaning, her father and mother gave birth to the daughter, at the age of 17, and so did the daughter, 18 years old, they were in the same hospital, and at almost EXACTLY the same time, officialy the time they had to report was the same, the daughter gave birth to a son, and so did her mother.
If you start thinking in words like brother, sister, you loose really your mind.
But there are facts who go straight to your heart, leading sometimes to beautiful songs.
I can giove you an example, but this is a very sad one: the song that Eric Clapton wrote, when hiis son felt down from an appartement is "tears in heaven". It should be a song, where people should think about. I have got a cardiac arrest a few hourds after a car crash. Following the statistics, driving 90km/h and hitting a tree (aquaplaning, very nice road, but a pool of water in a corner), there is a 1 in a million chance to survive, and if surviving a 1 /100000 to be NOT in a wheelchair.
I am thinking and I see very often in my dreams things like a crash, or that I can run.
Every day is different, even if things go wrong, try to make the best of it, and it is not easy, I just have to consider my situation: always in (terrible lower back) pain, no more walking, no more .., name it. I am very happy that I found chordie, and you are all great, and that is a FACT THAT MAKES ME STRONG and helps me to pass my day. Also weird is, I lost my father too, he was 44 years old, that at "exactly at the moment he died, we, my mother and me, were standing in front of an undertaker, waiting for a red traffic light, I said to my mother, this must be a real difficult job, make a living where others are dead. The moment I spoke these words, I remember me watching the time, was the same as written in Rotterdam (Holland) 15:01
Sometimes, I'm asking myself is THIS reality, is this coincidence or not. And paranormal, I wrote a song about it, I also still remember me every chord, and most of the lyrics, 33 years later, but at that time composed on a 50$ guitar.
Playing it now, gives me a kind of inner peace, and finally, only the good and sweet memories stay.
We should discuss about this on a day.

I knew it.
Those things happen, and certainly in my case writing kilometres of mails.
I really love jokes, which bring me on an idea: is it technical possible to have, like the different topics, a new ITEM: jokes in the music world. Why: there are thousands of jokes about musicians (drummers on top), but it would be very confusing to put this somewhere in the "chat corner."
I know, sometimes I go far in my enthusiasm to answer a topic, especially when the solution is sometimes more scientific, even trying to give non-scientific answers. But concerning this topic, I am convinced that genetics are involved, but also influences (if the whole family is playing an instrument) and you can find it ;: there is a centre in the brain, not only for artistic stuff, but for everything, you should read it, VERY INTERESTING. Even the fact that brain specialists know a lot, they are busy to put the puzzle together, this is just the beginning. It is a fantastic, unfortunately not for chordie, topic, very fascinating.
So, if it is not asked too much, I am sure a lot of people would like a "joke" site.
Goodnight, going to see tv.

Sorry if you didn't understand what I wrote. Maybe I mispelled the word and genes is not the correct word. I just tried to give you an answer on your question, and I will never give an answer if I am not sure. More, why should I do an attempt to make it sound like humour, we had even contact before. If there was a topic about jokes, I even wouldn't participate. I tried to HELP YOU, is this a crime? Every word I wrote is based on TRUE information, more it took me over an hour to do some research. The fact that you wrote, who has music in their blood, is a very interesting topic.
And I will be short: when I wrote about GOOGLE, I gave you articles where you can find, what I tought (probably wrong) to try to answer why there are families who play and sing and are so talented. I just wrote that it is probably genetic determined, but more influenced by the environment. If you grow up in a musical family, it is obvious that there is an influence, and also important is that in the human brain there is a centre, as I wrote, responsible for our artistic abilities. I hope you understand that I was absolutely not JOKING, but trying to give an answer on a very interesting topic. If I read who has music in their blood, well, maybe this was not the answer you wanted to hear, but anyway this is a reason why some families have music in their blood.

Surfing on the internet, brought me on a site, where, despite the fact we all think that the ROOTS of the guitar are found in Europe, a couple of 100 years ago, so I was very amazed to see, and to read that article.
The roots of the GUITAR seems to come from INDIA. But changes, wars, invasions, made it disappear. What I found was quit amazing, and I ASK YOUR OPINION, about this fact.
The instrument had the name: kachhapi veena a bit later: Geetar.
Geet + Tar means an instrument with tar or strings that can be played for any geet or song. The word ‘Geet’ is an Indian name for song in Sanskrit.
This makes it not so easy, but we have a fellow chordian from India. I hope to see what he thinks.
