I have a regular office chair, leather with wheels and arms that I use 90% of the time on the computer.  When I want to play and be on the computer at the same time, I roll it away and pull one of my dining room chairs over.

caromshot, check out the recording section here on Chordie and you'll get lots of advice and ideas.  You can keep it as cheap as a handheld voice recorder... to... goodness, the sky is the limit on cost!  There's a free program that will allow you to record more than 60 second clips too... sound recorder kinda stinks when it comes to that!  Good luck!

I like facebook.  It lets me see pictures of Roger's kitties and weird looking bugs... I get to put some faces to names on Chordie... and share some of my music with people who didn't know they were interested.  I've gotten quite a few customers that were former classmates all because I connected with them on facebook (hadn't seen them in 15 years, yet they came to me to have their hair done just because).  I keep a business facebook page for my husband's Tattoo Shop and he's gotten a LOT of customers because of facebook (and retained a lot... as it's easy to update when he'll be closed on there as he tends to forget to put a note on his door several days in advance).

The bonus of course is things like the Muppets!  smile  Plus, it's replaced all those horrid annoying emails everyone used to send me (I don't want to read through 50 forwarded jokes just to get to the email from my bank - although my mom isn't on facebook yet so she still sends them).  With facebook, I can just read what I want if/when I want.  Lately, I haven't been on there tooooo much because I'm working full time now.  It's still nice to check things out when I've got some time though.

As for Deadstring's first comment about the church goers with more faith in horoscopes than the bible... I agree, and actually appreciate that facebook has allowed me to know which ones of those church goers I don't want to bother having a religious discussion with.  My cup is half full!  smile

Good luck Thistles, I hope one of the folks here with nothing better to do... or lots better but still helps... comes to your aid soon!  smile

Welcome to Chordie Lpeterson!  Let us know if you still can't figure out how to do it here and we can walk you through it more.  I think Doug's got you going in the right direction though!  smile

I believe if you click on "import songbook" at the bottom of the page you should be able to save it in your "my songbook" section!  Good luck!  Oh... and I see you've been a member for a while, but his is your first post.  So... welcome to the Chordie Forum!  smile

It sure is fun to play with others that you love an admire!  I've been able to play with my dad a few times recently also.  It's a great feeling!

Thanks Wayne for redoing this!  smile

yes, you can link to youtube and such from here.  Sometimes, if you do, one of the more talented members will take a listen and give you an idea of what chords they're hearing.

Hi there Caromshot!  I saw you looking for that Tom Dooley Strumming pattern that seems to have gone missing.  I didn't want to clog up the strumming thread with a response so started this one here.

Wayne originally did that vid for me a while back.  I was having an issue getting it sounding "just like my dad" plays it.  Anywho... on the vid Wayne was doing a simple bass strum with the song.  When I play it, I will sometimes try that, or just do a simple Down-up-down strumming pattern, and I play it with a simple D and A7.  I like to allow the words and vocal to ring through over the playing.  It's an oldie that's been played a million times by a million different people and I think everyone probably has their own little ways.  Maybe some others will jump in here with how they play it to help you out with some strumming ideas!  smile

I'm not that great either Thistles!  LOL!  I did an internet search and couldn't come up with anything.  Some songs we maybe have to either buy the music for, or wait till we're good enough to be able to figure it out ourselves sad  Maybe a link to the song here in this thread and a further request for someone to help will work!  smile  Good luck!

sad  Sorry, I did a search and couldn't find anything

Ian sounds like you had a great day!  Here's hoping you get the job you want, and awesome about finding a great guitar shop to do business with!  AWESOME!

I have used this one for years.  It works really well.  It comes in a windows version and costs, but well worth it.  You just copy the chopro files in Chordie and paste it to SongBook.  It does everything you want.

It also comes in Ipad format and they are working on an Android version.

I was going to suggest this, but Pete beat me to it.  SongBook is pretty good!  I have the free windows version on my computer - yes they do ask for money, but you can use it for free.  Along with copying the chopro files, you can also create your own songs in it using chopro.  I've put my originals in there to print out all purty as well as edited some songs in it.  It's a fairly basic program but works well.

I don't have any advice, but I did want to welcome you to Chordie!  There's a ton of good folks here.  Compared to lots of other guitar forums out there, it sure is a little slice of humanity and kindness.  Welcome Borderblu!  smile

That's pretty darn great.  To see a bunch of high school boys able to do something like this, especially from the opposing team, is the very best part of it all.  There's a very good lesson being taught that will carry them through life, and Ike gets to feel like a big winner in a world where he will often be left out.  It's good confidence which will also carry him through life.  Awesome stuff there!  Thanks for sharing Toney!

Very cute!  I love some of the things kids say.  In both these cases, I think they were right on target.  Zurf, your daughter clearly does have the funk in her!  And Casey sure does have mojo!  LOL!  lol  I love it!  Now, if I could just get my three year old GIRL to stop shouting out "I'm DADDY'S BOY!" every time she gets dirty I'd feel a little better.  Of course, she really probably should have been a boy... she makes him proud.  ha ha!

Welcome to Chordie TurboTurtle!  The songs that you find on Chordie actually are not uploaded to the site or stored anywhere within Chordie's servers.  Actually, Chordie works more like a search engine/indexing service finding the songs all over the internet and then using it's code to transform the songs into an easy to read and print format.

You can find more information here Chordie FAQ about Chordie and how it works.  You can only post your own unique material in the forums under the Songwriting section.

I hope that answers your question!  Take a look around the forum and read the stickies at the top of the sections, then jump right into some of the conversations going on.  People are quite friendly and ready to help as well as have you help with any questions!  smile

Hi again Ian!  I finally had a little time yesterday and played through your song about 5 times.  The melody came fairly easily to me, and  I really enjoyed playing and singing this one!  I can't wait to hear your intention with it.  smile  I didn't try it with the Bm as I printed it out before you made that change ... I just went to the D7 then to the G (while playing it didn't feel like it needed the D).  Really great job and I love how the last chorus just begs to be played!

Ahhh... a great way to celebrate your 3,000th post - with a lovely song!  The next trick is seeing if the mystery woman that inspired it ever gets to hear it!  Wonderful job Roger!  So sweet!

Zurf I'm with Roger - Record that gal and share!  Oh, and start saving now for voice classes and an excellent music school after college!  smile

Hi Dan (Roger I think you got confused with his signature quote) - As you already know by now, I love this song!  I also shared with friends on facebook.  Your voice truly amazes me, and the point where you clearly get choked up in the song only adds to the true emotional quality of that point in the story (everyone's story that has been there).  I appreciate the true emotion as well as great playing.  Excellent job, excellent song.
