Just thought I'd update the forum here with the response I got from Elixir. In the future, I will try to keep a spare set so if I do have premature breakage, I only have to change the single string. It's worth knowing and they kept me as a customer. Their reply is below:

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your interest and support in Elixir® Strings, along with taking the time to write us.  I apologize for the experience you are having with our strings.  Although, our strings offer long musical life, occasionally guitar strings break prematurely and we understand that this can be a very frustrating experience.  That being said, it is our policy to replace any string that does break prematurely. As a one time courtesy I have entered an order to send a replacement set of light gauge strings. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Thanks and Regards

Thanks crowellb, I'll give the polywebs a shot. I must say, so far I haven't been real impressed by the elixers - that was my second or 3rd set I think. I sent them an email and suggested they send me a new set if they want to keep this customer - I'll let you know if I get a response.

So far, Martin strings seem to be the best for me. Long lasting and they seem to stay in tune really well. I've got a set of DR's on now, we'll see.

Great thread etc_04, I just printed and played that Leadbelly tune - Great choice fun to play and belt out as you said!

I can't say I have any favs at the moment - been practicing a few Clapton tunes, but I don't have my arms around them yet!

Thanks Pix - good tip on the graphite, I'll give it a shot. I may have to also settle on a specific brand of string and buy some extra single "G"'s. In my search for the "perfect" guitar string, I have multiple different brands, and since I don't want to mix them, I end up changing the whole set. I am getting faster at changing them anyway!

Ok, so I was at this gentlemen’s club…..No, seriously I have popped 3 G-strings in the past 3 days. Is it me or just a fluke?

Thursday  Night, I’m strumming the Yamaha with maybe a 1 month old set of Martin “Clapton’s Choice† strings. BROOING – The G string pops at the nut. No big deal, the strings were getting worn and needed to be replaced soon anyway. I actually thought it was kind of cool – the first string I ever popped.

Yesterday – I bought a used Takamine and the strings were obviously used also. No idea what brand, but they had visible wear. After playing for an hour or so – SPROING – the G string again! OK – used strings – new guitar (for me anyway), so it deserves some new strings. So I put on a fresh set of Elixer 80/20 nanoweb lights. Sounds good, for a while – after strumming and picking for a couple more hours SNAP – the damn G string again – this time at the bridge.

3 G strings in 3 days – Just a freak thing or am I banging on that G string too hard?

Thanks all for the recommendations and advise - I'll check them all out.

Pix - I'll try to get some pics up on flickr if I can figure out how later today. If I can't figure it out, I'll email ya!

No Anchovies, Please - J. Geils Band

I don't know why that popped into my head, but it did big_smile

I just picked up a used A/E guitar (Takamine EF508C). It's pretty sweet - solid cedar top, mahogany back, sides & neck. Sounds beautiful and the action is sooo much better than the "beginner" yammy I have been playing.

Anyway - Now that I have an A/E, I feel the need to plug it in! I noticed they sell amps marketed specifically for acoustic guitars and was wondering if there really was any difference between electric and acoustic amps or is it just marketing. I don't envision ever playing out, so I was wondering if any Chordians could recommend a decent, but inexpensive (say under $500) that I could use just for playing in my den/office/music room. I think I would like to have one with a mike input in case someone wants to sing along (or for when I have enough to drink to actually sing myself big_smile )

southpaw51,

You can probably just bring the bad components to your local radio shack and they will likely have (or can order) replacements. Be sure to label or draw a diagram (or take a photo) of the wiring before you remove them to ensure you install the replacements in the right place!

Dave Matthews - I'm pretty sure it was from his solo effort - not DMB.

LR - I love Willie, but I honestly didn't care much for his version.

I rarely visit the songwriting forum anymore because I struggle in "reading" what a song sounds like - I prefer hearing them, but I'm glad I checked this one out and I really enjoyed the recording. Well done Russ, good quality and your breadth of styles never ceases to amaze me.

(That said - I'm with Zurf - I ain't gonna even attempt to play it smile )

No prob Russ - FWIW, it seems your problem is in viewing your videos - the upload speed does not impact that at all. A faster upload speed will only make the uploads faster - it does not effect viewing whatsoever. For viewing, the download speed is what you are concerned with. But... before you pay for a faster speed, it is definitely worth testing - If you are getting 753K for a 768K connection, that's pretty good and I would guess that an upgrade would be worth it (only $5 more per month to double your speed). That said, test your speed after you upgrade (if you choose to do so) - if you still get in the 750 range while paying for 1.5Mbps, it obviously isn't worth it.

I have earthlink through time warner (the same cable they use for RR) - for about the same price as RR lite, I am getting 4,920Kbps down / 367K up.

Russ - You may already know this, Road Runner is available in multiple speeds - and the connection you have will certainly have an impact on video downloads. And as someone else said, the amount of use in your "node" will also have an impact. Here are the different speeds available in my area from RR:

You can test your actual speed with this link:

Welcome to Chordie KBblake7! I suggest you search the forum for topics on strum patterns and you will find numerous topics and suggestions. This is most definitely a FAQ smile . Here's a link to a search I just did:

Thanks Ben and welcome to chordie. I am really a newbie myself and this site - the songs and forum combined have helped me tremendousely! Although I played a bit as a kid, this wonderful thing called the internet has helped me re-learn exponentially faster.

Friendly is the right description of Chordie - Musicians of all levels sharing their questions and successes, that's what it's all about!

I live in North Carolina and the signs of spring are just beginning to show. Chin up - no doubt Spring is headed for Minesoooda soon!

Russ - I tend to agree with Tibernius. The problem most likely is the bandwidth speed of your internet connection. Even if your service is top-notch (cable broadband, DSL), the infrastructure in the US is slow and has considerable bottlenecks, especially for uploads.

What's the decision then? Can we post if it's only a small amount of the lyrics (say, less than one verse) or not?

My intent was not to end this great thread, just wanted to put out a warning and make everyone aware of the sticky note on the song request forum. IMO a line or two of the lyrics should be o.k. - if you want or need to post more, I would suggest providing a link to one of those lyric sites, or a link to the actual song here on chordie. I know, silly, right,  - damn lawyers.

I thought about beginning a similiar thread a couple of weeks ago, but was concerned it may turn into trouble. So, just as a reminder, this is a message from the song request forum:

Chordie does not host songs. It is a search engine that formats songs it finds on the internet. There are several reasons for this (most of them legal).

Please read FAQs on chordie's 'Resources' page for a longer explanation.

This also means that NO LYRICS can be posted in this forum.

You are however allowed to post links to songs on the internet, and you are allowed to post one-liners explaining how to play a song.

Any posting of lyrics may result in Chordie having to shut down! I will therefore automatically delete the account (and the songbook) of persons violating this rule, as well as ban their domain from accessing Chordie.

Please report any violation of this rule immediately!

There are a ton of classic and memorable lines posted here. A couple of my favorites and 1 is quite a bit more obscure:

"He can't be a man because he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me!" - Everyone should know this one. This song may have the best rock-n-roll lyrics ever written, (even though I much prefer The Who).

"I want the doctor to take your picture , So I can look at you from inside as well" - A wonderfull one hit wonder song that I'm not giving up quite yet - you'll have to look it up.  smile
