^That's what I was thinking. I think he meant to say and 'E' shape.

YOu are correct sir! LOLOL oops,  so it looks like this

http://jguitar.com/chordsearch/F%23m    THE FIRST DIAGRAM.

That is how I have always played it.

Ok, now dumb question,, what is the chord if you bar the 2nd fret and do the Am (like I wrongly said ^)

just found this on same site! http://jguitar.com/chordname

So my answer is
F#sus4#5      F# Suspended 4th Sharp 5th
Bm/F#          B/F# Minor
D6/F#           D/F# 6th

I dont get it,,, its just a Am w/ 2nd 3rd an 4th fingers and your index across the second fret.     Once i learned this form and the E shaped one,, I use the heck out of them.

KEEP AT IT-- Barr chords will save ya.

You might try what I did.  till I got used to everything, I used .010 electric strings.  You will find them eaiser to handel. the set up is always important also. you will divlope the softer touch also.after you  are fluent, bump up to some light gauge acustic strings and so on. (when changing string gauges, set up will change a bit)

keep at it!

And somehow I find myself in the same life-boat as everyone else. When did our classical ship sink?

The question is; What electric guitars have the widest necks? As we want our transitional muscle-memory to transfer as seamlessly as possible.

If you want to keep your classical, get a transducer pick up:

there is this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor … transducer

or a less pricy one one that still sounds good :  http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor … 5000000000

My buddy had the Dean Markley, we found putting it right on the lower part of the bridge worked very well.  With this you can keep your nylon strings and amp it up and add any effects that trip your trigger.

Pete - I really did NOT realize that we had so many guitars around here.  I will admit, other than the Martin they are all under $300 each, but still.  Mind you, I don't usually play his guitars and he generally doesn't play mine.   Oh, and since I got my Martin my husband is now GASSING for a Gibson.  At some point, we will have to remove some guitars from our bedroom before there's no place for us to sleep.  My three all have a purpose (a classical, a beater, and a Martin) and so do his, (an electric, a beater, and a Fender).  I see how difficult it can be to get RID of guitars now though.

Oh...  Say "Whoot Hoot" out loud.  It's just a hoop and a holler.  smile

Amy that is what Wall Hangers are for! :-)Hmmm Average room 3 or 4 to a wall staggared. yep sounds good to me.

oops.  http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1211582282  go to my pictures file and look for guitar stuff.  Everything i Scanned is in there.  look for the stretches for the fourth finger.  This lesson comes from "ARLEN ROTHS METAL METHOD"  GREAT BOOK,
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? … tal+method

I xeroxed every page of it back in the day before scanners.   This exercise will make your pinky burn for a while.  I originally had all this stuff in step folders, to work people up to it.  I then let them have a copy of the Arlen book.  We stuck to four chord keg rock and beach / chapen stuff after that.......

Oh to have had Chordie and you tube back then.

So Roger, is it the case that over time, doing the kind of exercises you describe, I'll be able to not only get greater strength in my pinky, but be able to separate it farther away from my index finger?

MB,, for spreadability, you can use wadded up paper with masking tape or a raquet or squash ball.  Just incert itbetween your fingers and use the mussel to go back and fourth, and let it sit there and slowly strech your tendons.  oh and check your mail Ill send you a pinkey excercise that will really help in addition to what Rodger has told ya.

edit>>>>
Ok this mailer wont let me do an attachment,  If you would like this and some more, please e-mail me at beamerstrumpet@gmail.com,, Ill send you back some great finger excercises.

Just go to the page and hit the like button.

Im in.

Man when I was learning my chords F did give me a hard time, first time my friend showed me the major and minor forms with the Emaj standard shape, that was it!  or just play the root 5th. 2 fingers is all it takes all the way up and down the neck.  As for B its a root 5th  (index on A string 2nd fret and 3rd finger on D string 4th fret)  and Bm is the full bar chord)  powerchords are great you all and pretty easy once you can get your head around it.

I'd definately agree with Beamer, if you have multi effects go the tube route, once you've used a tube amp I doubt you'll go back! My recommendation would be a Blackstar HT5, more than enough for a basement http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/products/ht-5r/

But try as many as you can

Jerry

I just checked that out! Man the mini stack is the schiznizzel.  Where was that stuff when I was 16?????  The combo is kick butt also,,,,,, I will say that the Bugera was only around 140 when I got it.  It was brand new on a special deal.  Its now 190 and only has a 8 in speaker.   OH but the 8 incher can get it going!

I need to get an external cab for it, a 12 would open it up even more.  Iwas thinking of wireing it inline to my GMX112.  It has the speaker out jack but they warn only to use audio cable and not a guitar cable.  Any thoughts on this? (sorry sorta hijacked thread.)

i would recommend staying away from modeling amps if you can. The reason? I have a Fender Mustang my wife bought me for Xmas. I asked for an Acoustic Brand 30 watt and a multi-effects pedal or a Wah.

I use my Mustang but I should have returned it. I feel that it does not make a "true" sound. It supposedly models 8 amps with many, many effects that you can use. The problem is there is no way to find a clean amp model. All of the settings seem to have one or more effects along with the model or setting you choose.

I would rather have a regular two channel amp, a wah or multi-effects with a wah, and fiddle with the treble, bass, and gain to produce my sounds.

That is true about modeling amps. When I get the urge to try a new effect, I can use the modeling amp to see if it is necessary. It seems to make every sound EXCEPT a guitar plugged into an amp.No matter what I do,there is always an echo when I stop playing

I have not used my http://www.behringer.com/assets/GMX112_ … ont_XL.jpg since I got my Bugera V5.  The 112 has been discontinued but they have the 212.  same amp 2 speakers.  Point being, with out the midi foot controler, you get to use one preset at a time on either channel.  And the "tube simulator" for the "low watt overdriven tubes" is just like J3 says.

W/ this and even with my RP, I find a good clean and then uses some stomps to get somethingdiff.  one good thing is that this amp comes with a foot pedal for channel switch and effects on or off.

I’ve been learning the guitar I was loaned (acoustic classical) for about a year now. By now I’m pretty sure I’ve finally cemented all the bad habits I’ve developed from lack of instruction. I strum/pick chords/notes with my thumb while my pinky/ring are braced on the body. There is too much real-estate on the neck to finger those pure and fat F and B bar codes so I play alternatives that sound close enough to my ear.

I’m buying an electric and researching some hollow-bodies, sniffing around the Epiphone Dot. But I don’t like the skinny necks, and I can’t find any electrics that have the classical-size.  I was considering an electric-classical, but that’s nothing more than a louder version of the guitar I already have. Redundant.

Maybe there is a question in those paragraphs.

I might be wrong, but my SG has a pretty wide neck. go check out a Epiphone G400.  I know its fatter than a strat or a tele.

Jerome,

Thanks for the tip.  With out useing a dist box, you think  a compressor maxed out for output and attack would drive it?  This thing (Johnson) only has one channel and a knob for dist.  http://www.johnsongtr.com/jat15r.html  honelstly  have been trying to get a really good crunch for my kid on this,  still twiddling.

If your wanting to spend 300, I would look into  TUBE POWER.

The standard answer here is " Go to the store and play with all of them."

How much more sound do you want?  I cant remember but does the cube have an external speaker jack?  You could just pipe it into a 10 or 12 in speaker.  That amp is designed for low level playing and pratice.  If you want to play with a drummer,, Im thinkning at least a 15 to 30 watt amp.  I held my own back ing the day with a little Marshall lead 12 amp.

A 5 watt tube amp = around 30 watts of solid state.  If you have a multi effects, you really dont need a modeling amp,  if its economy time,, look into Berhinger, or Bugera  http://www.bugera-amps.com/EN/products/V5.aspx  I have this one and a 65 Watt berhinger 2 channel (both the same company)    Go play in the store and get what makes you feel good.

Peace
