That'll be a beauty, as we often say in Canada. Two great teams, with a fine tradition of excellent rugby. Has everyone seen the 2009 film "Invictus"? It's about South Africa's world champion rugby journey, and is (IMHO) the best acting Morgan Freeman has ever done.

Here's a musical tribute for Eric's birthday a couple of years ago, from Michael Chapdelaine:

Bill ...

I can't honestly recall anything you've ever posted on Chordie that could even be imagined as confrontational, let alone hostile. You're an asset to the Chordie community, and your sensitivity towards others just underlines this.

That's a gorgeous guitar your friend has, Roger. I wouldn't want to guess how many hours it took to do all of the inlay work ... incredible.

Great fun! Reminded me of this hilarious narrative from Buddy Whasisname & the Other Fellers, about a home-made BBQ made from a rocket engine:

Have a good laugh!

The unmistakable smooth tones of a Gibson ES-335 with Classic '57 pickups ... and very well-played at that. Mr. Evans looks as if he's really enjoying himself, and it comes out in the relaxed style of his playing. Great post, Bill !

Uriah Heep    "Love in Silence"    London, 2003

Heep can rock with the best of them, and are equally at home with more creative / adventurous arrangements like this one. This live DVD from 2003 was recorded at the famous Astoria Theatre in London, and is easily one of my favorite concert DVD's. They had a great selection of guest performers on board, including Heather Findlay in this one (from "Mostly Autumn").

I hope y'all enjoy this one.

Yep!!. Phill I think I will charge up one of my 18 volt batteries for my drill and stick my tongue on it and see if it will help me restart my body.

LOL ... reminds me of something that Fester Addams might say. "I'm taking this candle downstairs, to check for gas leaks."

I like what TIG said earlier, that we should nickname BadEye as being GoodEar. Another excellent selection ... lots to enjoy in this one.

Welcome to Chordie, RBB!

That icon that Dino described should open your computer's Print Manager, and you can customize your settings from there. I would recommend selecting the smallest font in the Chordie settings, or you'll burn through a lot of paper.

We hope to hear of your progress, type of instrument(s) you play, musical preferences, etc. in the various discussion forums. I'll speak from experience that you'll find this a very helpful, supportive and non-critical bunch. Great folks here, and a huge pool of talent and knowledge.

Another little trick that might help is to learn your basic chords without using your index finger. If you can do them with your middle, ring, and pinky fingers, then your index is always free to slide into a barre whenever you need it.

Good for you, Dino! A good tuner is an often over-looked, but essential thing every guitarist should have. Even those little $20 clip-ons are quite good. I've got an Apex AT9M, and it works great.

Rush    "One Little Victory"    Rotterdam, 2007

After our Blue Jays got royally thrashed by Kansas City last night, I needed to insert some positive Canadian content this morning. On this tour, Geddy used chicken rotisseries behind him, to optically balance off with Alex Lifeson's wall of Marshall 4 x 12's. Aside of being talented & creative musicians, this tongue-in-cheek humor of their's is another part of their appeal. I'm sure the album cover concept means something, but I'll be dogged if I can make sense of it.

That's a super deal for 5 Quid. I checked online, and you can score a replacement back plate for under $20 US.

First pitch gets thrown in a few minutes. After that bizarre Game #5 in the Texas series, it'll be a while before another game matches it for entertainment value.

Great selection from Mr. Clapton!

Needed a fleece jacket on to enjoy this morning's coffee on the deck, but the amazing colors of our Fall leaves were worth the effort. Some scientist was on the radio a while back explaining why leaves change from green to colors in the Fall, and it reminded me of a factory going through a seasonal production cycle:

LAYOFFS at CHLOROPHYLL INC.

A seasonal energy crisis is approaching,
With reduced production encroaching,
The green of activity now subsides,
The colors of dormancy now override,
But there's no complaint, no sorrow at all,
It's the autumn cycle we refer to as Fall.

Botanists say shorter days cause the reduction,
Chlorophyll needs the sunlight for production,
Solar-produced sugar is needed no longer,
A summer of growth has made the trees stronger,
A well-deserved rest, into slumber they sink,
The layoffs are done at Chlorophyll Inc.

It's a marvel how trees are so well conceived,
In step with all nature, I firmly believe,
An intricate part of an intricate plan,
Needing no stimulus from mere mortal man,
Another natural wonder, that makes me think,
I wonder who's in charge of Chlorophyll Inc.?

Have had both Starbuck's and Tim Horton's, and they'll do in a pinch.

Our favorite cuppa java is what we brew at home. It's a "house brand" from our local Superstore (Loblaw's chain) called West Coast Columbian Dark Roast. It's got that bit of sweetness that Columbian is known for (unlike Arabica or Sumatran beans) and the extra roasting gives it a nice bite without being harsh.

Think I'll go get this morning's second cup right now!

All this talk about finger-style guitar had me going over some of Michael Chapdelaine's excellent work ... here's a sample:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeqrD2RcACM

For me, this is true finger-style, where the guitarist isn't really using any anchor point, other than his/her forearm on the body of the guitar. Not many do it better than Mr. Chapdelaine, as evidenced by this Taylor Winfield 98 guitar he won in competition.

That's terrific news, KIR!

Those two have been through more in the last few months, than most people endure in a decade. Glad to hear Dondra's surgery went well, and we'll all be praying for a speedy and thorough recovery.

Appreciate your keeping us informed.

Good choice, Bill.

As we were discussing in that other thread, Merle still has a couple of fingers "anchored" on his picking hand. I find it more challenging when I can't anchor any fingers, 'cuz I lose track of where I am.

I've only gotten as far as the Mark Knopfler style, which is to pick with the thumb, the index, and the middle finger. The ring finger and pinky are anchored somewhere for a reference point. The true classical guitarists (and many finger-style guys/gals) suspend their picking hand, and still don't lose the position ... scares the b'jeebers outta me!

Good story in your song, Beestie.

My late father-in-law was a British Merchant Seaman during WWII, and he would sometimes tell about wrecks he had witnessed. He would sometimes get emotional talking about them, to the point where the story often wasn't finished. I'd never heard of "The Empress" ... thanks for the introduction.
