LOL - You see this site is so educational - I had to look it up to see what a milliner is!
Sorry Helena - I don't know a good milliner - but I hope you do post photos of the event so we can see you in your splendid hat!
So for any other stupid Americans who didn't know (like me) - here is the definition from wiki:
Millinery refers to hats and other articles sold by a milliner to women, or the profession or business of designing, making, or selling hats, dresses, and hat trim to women. Women would ask a milliner to remake their old clothing into new clothing. A milliner is a hatter who designs, makes, sells or trims hats and dresses. Customers would visit a millinery shop to look at and to buy clothes (children's clothing, shirts, undergarments and caps, for example) Millinery, if taken in a more general sense, also means any accoutrements that are functionally unnecessary, such as a garnish on a dish, or the extra cuff-buttons on a man's dress jacket.

Re: What line of work are you in? (66 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I am an electrician by trade, now a project manager for a large electrical contractor. My specialty is large projects which are always a challenge and really what I like to build. Unfortunately that requires a lot of travel and I am currently posting this from my hotel room in the middle of nowhere, West Virginia. It is beautiful up here and I do spend most evenings on the back deck (overlooking a golf course) strumming my guitar. The drawbacks are a lack of decent eateries and being away from home.

That's hilarious Zurf "naked dirty man with a gun" ... calls out to her slightly less naked 300 lb woman.
Man, I got tears in my eyes laughin' at that - reminds me of a scene from Deliverance. SQUEEEEEL!

Thanks for the clip SouthPaw. And I agree with Tonydr.
The Who has always been in my top 5 bands of all time. The combination of Entwistle's never heard before bass licks, Daltry's pure power vocals, Moons, CRAAAZY drumming skills - combined with Townshend's breakthru creativity and guitar skills - Rock N Roll would not be the same without them. Maybe the Beatles started it, but Townshend & Co turned it up many notches in no time. BAM!
It's not all about lead licks - It's about creativity. And nobody did it like The Who before or since.

Great thread Zurf and thanks for resurrecting it captainbinky (and welcome to Chordie!).
Does anybody remember the band Triumph? Man, I remember my first car - a '74 Olds Cutlass Supreme - Cost me $900 and then I spent $600 on the stereo. I used to blast some Triumph from that thing. It sounded good from blocks away!

Oh yea - in addition to others posted on this thread, I also crank up anything by Thin Lizzy, just got to.

Zurf wrote:Honky Tonk Bedonkadonk. Just about as stupid of a song as there has ever been written for Country music, and that's saying something. Flat out dopey. And it went way up the charts and stayed there, too. Go figure.

You got to love the video though....lol
Pix - I just had to search and watch the video. I want those 4 minutes of my life back.
Maybe it's better on a big screen, I'm not sure - I know it would be better with less of him and more of them!

Real = Steely Dan
Tough to sound like Donald Fagan. He's got his own style. So, play the song but bring your style to it. Everything's easy if you know how to do it. It's learning how to do it that's hard.- Zurf
Zurf, I agree, Steely Dan was one heck of a guitar player. Seen him live several times.
Razamanaz - paranormal was correct on his second fingering. A "cheat" for Fm is xx3111.

Re: John Prine & Emmylou Harris (23 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Prine is one of my musical heroes - A lousy vocalist (if you judge vocals by range), a simplistic guitarist (paraphrasing: "I was taught A, C, D, G chords as a beginner and I just never found a reason to learn any more"). But what a lyricist and songwriter! This quote sums it up:
Clelia Adams - Singer, Australian pop idol
on the song "Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness"-- "Soulful, heart wrenching song from master songwriter John Prine. Nothing else can be added to this piece, the simplicity and complexity of the lyric says it all. This song is often named "the song I wish I had written" by other famous songwriters."
I wish I could be there.

Topic: Check out The Waybacks (0 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
A new discovery for me and I’ll certainly be looking to add some of their music to my collection. Kind of in the same spirit of Old Crow Medicine Show – call it what you want. Bluegrass / Folk / Americana. I like the description on their site “acoustic mayhem" .

One of their originals:

Apparently they covered the entire Zep BBC album at the recent MerleFest. Pretty jammin’ bluegrass is you ask me:

Hi Topdown,
I got the biggest lump in my throat reading this piece. Helene, would be so proud of you.
This post is a real sign that a mother holds her kids hands for a while, but there hearts forever.
May you feel Your Mams presence today and always.Happy Mothers Day to all Mams.
Old Doll.
Thanks Old Doll. I get the feeling that you are a really cool Mom also. I guess they don't celebrate Mothers Day today on your side of the pond, but I wish you a great US Mother's Day nonetheless

Russ - I was referring to Microsoft Word which is their word processing software, and I'd dare say by far the most common one out there these days. I'd assume others would have a similar command.
