hi zombie,

doesnt matter if you are new or not, every reply here will be valued by at least one person that reads it i would think so it has some value.

When you write songs is it the lyrics and the music together or lyrics first then music, or vice versa?

I think what you had said is great advice too, something I do a lot. I write my rants down a lot ( and I have a lot) and also the bit where you said about a message in a song even if no one else knows what you mean, I do that an awful lot, most of my songs have some sort of meaning and usually having a go at someone in disguise as a song and sometimes I am the only one that knows about it and it will stay that way.

With a song wrote like that you can put more feeling into the song and normally comes across as a better written song.

do you ever put any stuff on the net in form of a video?

as seen here : <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96MGsJrXHvo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96MGsJrXHvo</a>

where i have put the chord D, it is actually alternating from D to Another chord, dont know what it is called. A chord generator says it is G maj ( (no 3rd)

All it is is taking your finger off the G string when you are playing D and hammering back on again for the D.
[SONG]
{t: the little black flea}
{st:Ken Godwin}

[D]The little black flea [D]had no com[D]pany
T[D]he little black fl[D]ea came to me
T[G]hings are so much bigger when you’re sm[D]all[D]
T[G]hings are so much bigger…….when you’re s[D]mall

The little black flea jumped on my knee
The little black flea wanted to talk to me
Things are not so clear when you’re small
Things are not so clear when you’re small

The little black flea he was so wee
The little black flea he was so hard to see
But he kept on jumping around the ground
but he kept on jumping around the ground

break
[A] [Bm] [A] [F#] [Bm] [C] [G] [D]

the little black flea had no family
the little black flea made a friend from me
and we jumped and skipped around all day
and we jumped and skipped around all day

the little black flea died instantly
the little black flea died instantly
and I jumped and skipped on him all day
and I jumped and skipped on him all day
the little black flea was so hard to see
the little black flea was so hard to see

James,

Thanks!!!

I had a feeling you would help me out as you do with so many questions on Chordie.

I think you must surely qualify to be an official replier ,lol.

You really do have usefu things to tell people and you seem to like helping people, you go out your way too.

It was mentioned somewhere else from Steve as well how helpful you are.

Keep up the good work,

Cheers

I never realised that with the chord patterns but you are spot on correct.

This could help me quite a bit i tihnk somehow, I dont know why yet but I am sure there is some technical issues in the chord patterns there,

Now while suffering a hangover I think I am talking twattles.

Like the guitar I cheat on the uke with chords, I think E is hard to do too so I just leave out the bottom string, like I do wit hthe chord B on the guitar, lol

If at first you dont succeed try again? NO!! if at first you dont succeed,,,,,CHEAT!!

I know it has been told before but i canny find it.

James and one or two others do this and I want to be told again how to.
How do i post lyrics here with the chords in blue above the lyrics?

I know how to do the chords i.e
when i [A] was an old [E] man i cou[B]ld see nothing

But what do you need to type to start with?
and can I do this on a word document and copy and paste it in here and it will turn out chordie style?

Hi David,

Good replies there.

You can cheat. Think of an easy song, or a hard one, use the rythum and chords and structure but just change the words. That is unless you plan to make money from it.

I write songs and sometimes I write only one verse and cannot think of anything else, but i dont give up on it, I save it into my computer on word document under "SONG IDEAS" then go back to them now and then and pull some out and add more to them, some are still sitting there since 2001, i have got some lyrics scribbled down from 1995 that I have done no more with.

But whatever you do, as long as you like it then you enjoy it.

David Bowie said something that inspired me to continue writing when Some people told me my songs were not that good. Mr Bowie says " If you write a song and you like it then someone in the world somewhere will like it too so dont dismiss it"  ( maybe not his exact words but very close to it)

Pinball wizard on the uke? I am going to go try this as I am crap on the guitar at it.

I think playing the guitar and the uke does help a lot but i see it as learning the uke is good if you played the guitar beforehand???? hmmm, maybe it does work both ways though, I will never know for sure as I played the guitar before the uke.

BUT, playing the guitar first does make it easier to play the bass guitar I think ( i started playing bass first)

Also do you not find sometimes when going to play the chord D on the uke you go and play G. Same shape of chord, that is the only thing I get mixed up with for a second or so on the uke.

ok, pinball wizard and other who songs I was not happy with on the guitar, here i come

Hi,

The chords in the song layout doesnt tell you how to strum it or what strumming pattern, it only shows what chords to use for the song.

What I do is if I do not know the song of by heart is listen and listen and listen again to the song, over and over until I got the rythum of the song in my head then the strumming comes easy when you pick up the guitar and have the lyrics and chords in front.

Sometimes the chords are in the wrong place on the song, this is where the editing comes in handy in your songbook. You can put chords in the correct place, change chords and take chords out that you think you dont need.

Hope that helps

hi Paul and welcome to chordie ( even if I am about 6 days late in replying, just got back)

And happy new year to you, and everyone else.

There are lots of people from the UK use chordie ( I am in scotland) lots from englsnd , scotland and a few irish too, cant think of any welsh though, or not that they have said.

Also a few from europe too, or quite a lot.

You near enough get a reply from anything you ask, especially if posting in the relevant topic area.

I dont listen or play John denver but I would not groan at it. People here are into all sorts of music, every sort you can think of, probably some you might even groan at,lol.

I put some of my stuff on youtube too, some of my own songs I wrote and some covers of pink floyd and syd barrett songs. I have got quite a few more songs written in the last few months, I just need the time to record them properly and get them on youtube.

Also Pere ( the admin of chordie) is setting up a new web site sometime this year I think. It will allow you to put your own songs on the net and hopefully it will give them some sory of copyright too.

All the best

Right,

this is going to be a tough one, even for the die hard U2 fans.

I have been singing this song for 20 years now, only part of it though.

I have just found out they sang it on a program called " the tube" in 1987.

the song is called " lost highway"

They might have been covering it, so I will give you the lyrics I know so far from memory.

I'm a rollin' stone to late for love

for the price of sin, I will pay the cause.

blah blah blah

but now im ......

too late for ......

just a rollin stone on that lost highway ???

I dont even know if these lyrics are the right ones or somewhere in my head in the last 20 years I have made up new lyrics for it ,lol

I did only hear it the once way way back then but never forgot the tune or them sitting in a small room singing it acoustically.

congrats to those two

i thought christmas tunes by deetee was the best. I liked the tunes he picked better. He had john lennon and the pogues in his andslade and a few others, but it was the pogues' fairy tale in new york done it for me, if this was the only song in the book it would have got my vote, lol

warped chaos

troubled ways

pyschadelic voices in a colourful world.

I got two favourites

Fairy tale in new york by the pogues

and the all time classic by slade but perfomed by oasis

merry christmas everybody ( or everyone) ,lol

then white christmas too is superb.

I wish it could be christmas everyday, a true classic song.

All these great crimbo songs and I hate chritmas, lol but it is for the kids and they love it.

well,  I cheat!!

I find B hard too, it is also hard to cheat with too.

So I dont play it properly at all. I just hold down the D, G, and B string on the third fret and try not to play the dampened E string. I have tried fitting my three fingers on the DGB and holding the E on the second but it is only easy when I start to play a song in B ( which isnt very often) I cannot change from a chord and hold down the DGB and the E on the second. I have tried and tried and tried and failed for years, I still try it though.

My friend that has difficulties with it plays the bar chord B but it just does not fit in properly with songs that I do.

A song I love to do and has B in it is Creep by radio head. When we play it I play my cheat way and he plays the whole song with bar chords, together the two acoustic are not bad but on their own each is guff.

so, I would say just struggle on
