Thanks Pix - yeah, I guess you could say I've had a bad case of GAS. This CA will have to cure it for a while though (I hope!).

That video is whacked - reminds me of an old Barney vid (Sally the camel?), that my kid would watch over and over, and .... Cool tune though - gotta be in the right state of mind. smile

Hey Man - how did your gig go at the music store you posted about a while back? I bet you had a blast!

I just ordered a CA 7i from Acoustic Pro Musicians

http://www.compositeacoustics.com/7i%20Series.aspx

http://www.acousticpromusician.com/inv_ca.htm

It's a black high gloss finish - supposedly a new finish as it's not listed on the CA website yet.

I've been searching for a 5i, but Danny is having a great sale (not listed on the site), so I was compelled to step up to the 7 series. Both of these series have the new integral top bracing and offset soundhole that supposedly offer a super booming bass. I played some of the older models and really liked them, but I am buying this one blind. My main reason for purchasing is durability. I travel for work weekly and like the idea of throwing my git in the trunk without worrying about durability.

I should have it by Friday - I'll post pics then. Can't wait - I am psyched!

Well, off to go get 18 in...see if I can duplicate my first ever HOLE IN ONE that I got on Wednesday!

I've tried both the Polys and Nanos and had breakage issues with both. Elixer is a brand I will never again purchase.

But my real reason for posting was to say CONGRATS ON THE ACE CROWELLB! big_smile

These songs seem to often be confused as originals by the covering artist:

Quinn the Eskimo - Manfred Mann (#1 song in UK, 1968) - written by Bob Dylan
Mr. Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (#9 US 1971) - written by Jerry Jeff Walker
Cocaine - Eric Clapton - written by JJ Cale (Clapton has covered several Cale tunes)

I am not a songwriter by any means, but an idea for the topic and the title are right here - something about the internet making the world a smaller place - folks from all over collaborating on a project.

Kap54 offers an excellent title. "Just One Verse"

Travis Picking:

One of the favorite styles among folk guitarists is called Travis picking. It is named for Merle Travis, a country guitarist who was one of the early developers of the style (Doc Watson was so impressed he named his son Merle).

The term “Travis picking  is used to describe a wide variety of fingerpicking styles, but generally it is a style of fingerpicking that involves a steady rhythm of bass notes played with the thumb while the 1st (index) and 2nd (middle) fingers play the melody on the treble notes (the higher strings).

One thousand bare all at Blarney Castle
By EPA

Just over 1,000 people bared all at dawn to pose for a photo installation by US artist Spencer Tunick at Blarney Castle near Cork, south-west Ireland, in what proved a liberating experience for most participants.

Describing the experience as "brilliant," Helena Walsh from Galway, western Ireland, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur DPA: "It's great that this was held in a country where it wouldn't have been allowed 10 years ago."

( I didn't post the photo - naked pics are not allowed and I must be a good example) wink

I have an easy solution for the low hanging pants thing. A few years ago (when this "fashon" started becoming popular), I told my now 16 y.o. son that if I ever see him with his pants hanging below his boxers, I will take all of his underwear away!

It's worked so far (at least when he's anywhere around me).

That was some fun golf to watch this evening! My guess - The field folds tomorrow and Tiger wins easily. (real gutsy call, I know smile )

This is an interesting topic. Sure - a lot of greats were lost from drug overdoses, but I think in the bigger picture, music would almost definitely NOT be where we are today without the drug influences that were almost omnipresent in the "counterculture" of the '60's. The culture of the day influenced nearly every major musical group in that period and those musicians impacted and shaped entirely the music we listen to today.

Marley, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison (and many more) died tragically young. Gotta ask, without the drugs, would they have been the same influence or left the same mark on music that they did? I say not - I can't even imagine Marley without that stoned smile on his face.

Lover Lay Down - Dave Matthews Band
Cruisin' (Cruise with me Baby) - Smokey Robinson
2nd Time Around - Sinatra
What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
I Could Not Ask For More - Edwin McCain (the wife says that's engraved in my wedding ring, but I've never read it - my eyes are too old!)

Agree with some others here also: Wonderful Tonight (live version) and Unchained are also some of the wife's favs

Jerome - Your posts and graphics are awesome - you explain things in such easy to understand terms. This theory section is a great addition to the forum!

I'm thinking a "basics" lesson might be a good idea. Like what notes does it take to form a chord and what makes a minor, a 7th, etc. What is a suspended chord - that kind of thing. This might be a good topic for a "sticky" as there are a lot of beginners here.

Just offering a suggestion - I know it took me a lot of searching and practicing to just learn the basics. Would have been nice to have a "go-to" beginners lesson thread.

Thanks for all of your efforts!

{Warm at the moment.}

I am very fortunate to have a company gas card for my fuel needs. I fill up 3 or 4 times a week at about $75 (USD) a pop. Most of my driving is for work, but it is a great benefit to use the company petrol for personal use. I almost feel guilty when everybody talks about fuel costs.

Doll - I live about 3 hours drive to the beach. We have a spare bedroom with your own private bath. My wife loves flowers, I love a good meal and we both love a good massage - Sounds like a great winter and you are always welcome - just give me the dates, and I'll order your plane ticket!

That is EXACTLY what I do when thinking about loved ones who have passed - Jam on their favorite tunes or songs that remind me of them. It's the best therapy there is for me. I like to think they are watching, listening and jamming along. What kind of music did Dan like?

My thoughts are with you Jerry.

Hey Cam - I'm a neighbor - I live in Lewisville - just outside of Winston-Salem.

As for your barre chord question - That's the beauty of them - the fingerings are the same. Move the E shape up the neck, get all of the chords Pix mentioned in his first list. The second list is for the A shape - same fingering all way up.

Here's a justin sandercoe lesson that may be helpful (donate if you can!)
