Takes me back to a time when music and groups like the Mama@Papas were putting out great songs good choice  Richard.

Thanks - I just looked at the date and saw it was almost one year ago to the day I did that!! If all goes to plan, I'll be doing another few songs there tomorrow evening.

Any other word suggestions for something to do with the weather?

Cheers

Making this appear in the "active topics" again by posting this video I performed a year ago of the Mama's and the Papa's song California Dreamin', which has the words "... on a winters day..."

Hoping others will join in and post something!

It's great to hear you playing again Peatle!! And congrats on being the first member to put up a song for this month, hopefully we can inspire others to join in ...

I liked your song, the core message was a good one!!

Wow, that's a blast from the past ... I was in High School when that song came out, and I remember we all used to laugh about it.

Years later, I was doing a music workshop and the co-ordinator Gary mentioned this song - our job was to write and record a song that ended up on a cassette. He said not to be too cliche, otherwise we would end up like Joe Dolce who was a serious musician, but everytime he played a gig, everyone wanted to hear "Shut upa ya face" over and over ... and none of his other tunes.

Ok, these suggestions have been moved to the August FSOTM section - https://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=39106

Gosh, August 2023 already, the months seem to be flying by this year!!

With Jandle being a bit busy during these couple of months, we're trying to get the FSOTM back on track.

So for August we're stealing the JULY 2023 suggestions, and our members can write a poem, create a song or cover somebody else's song which include these words:

  • Ticket
    Memory
    Water
    Winter
    Wine
    Picture

Anyway, you know the drill, READY ... SET ... GO!!!

With Jandle being a bit busy during these couple of months, we're trying to get the FSOTM back on track.

Down here in the southern hemisphere, we are transitioning away from the colder months, with glimpses of sunshine starting to make their way through, so we are looking for suggestions from members to talk about changes in the weather, and a word that you associate with that change.

Suggest a word, members can use that word in a song or poem, either a cover or original. Personally I like the stories that go along with the word, but that's not compulsory - but make it clear with your suggested word on a single line.

Look forward to reading what you all SUGGEST.

READY ... SET ... GO!!!

Hi everyone, sorry I have been absent in July for FSOTM which did not happen.  I am letting you know with renovations going on here presently and family members here, it`s been a bit hard for me to even get online to do anything much.  Just giving you all a heads up, August is going to be pretty much the same for me with renovations and family here but also away on holiday for a couple of weeks.  SO, all that to say, FSOTM will resume back to normal in September.  Please forgive me for the interruption on FSOTM for these two months and all will be back to normal in September.  In the meantime, think of songs, both originals and covers, for September.  We will use the WORDS suggested in July smile

I'd be happy to take over the administrative role if you would like?

I'm at work, so don't have a guitar on me - but I'm thinking it would go well with a [C#m] to [E] then down to an [A] and [F#m] with one chord to each of the lines ... I heard it in a blues downbeat style .... let me know if that works for you.

I must admit, back in the 90's I was always "Fenders for electric, Matons for acoustic" type person, but I tried one of their acoustics and it was pretty darn nice. It's a nice looking guitar as well, hope you find many hours of enjoyment with it.

Look forward to hearing some tunes from it!

BTW the Nashville tuning sounds interesting - what do you use it for?

Neo when I lived in Melbourne I often wondered what it would be like to drive from there to Perth I never found the time  to do it. I should imagine the Nullarbor Plain part of the journey would have been an interesting drive if not a challenging part of a driving that distance. I travelled extensively through Victori, NSW ,Queensland, and the Northern Territory but have yet to do other states apart from a brief stopover in Addelaide while flying down from Alice on the way to Sydney. My Maree liked Perth when the ship she was on berthed at Fremantle. Apparently so I'm told Fremantle has a really good record store that sells recordings that are hard to get

Hi Peatle,

It's a long drive, I've done it a couple of times, and it's pretty interesting the amount of bushes and trees. Apparently it's a 37 hour drive accourding to Google maps

The record place in Freo (to the locals) is probably Mills, it's still around, we were there last Monday on a trip down to the Port City ...

It's funny you say that Peatle, a couple of months ago we had some new people join us at the Merriwa Folk club, and they did this song!! I watched the guy on guitar as I've never been able to get the right 'feel' for this song, but his wife sang it well. With 15 performers doing 2 songs each, I don't always remember every song everyone does, but this one stood out as I hadn't heard it for so long!!!

CD's - you kids get all the good toys!!! I remember going to gigs with my trusty case of cassettes under my Datsun seat, a variety of Perth bands and international acts, including the Cure, Dave Warner, our own band releases. Invariably the back seat would be out so I could move that big old PA around ...

But road trips; I remember listening to Pink Floyd while driving through the fogs in outer Melbourne, as we went up and down those small hills in the area, we'd go up through the fog and then we'd go back down into it, if it wasn't so random, I would have sworn that it was all timed to be in sync with the music. A surreal experience for sure ...

Hmmm, been sitting here staring at a blank "write message" box for a good 5 mins, I don't think I could name one artist as a favorite - my tastes ebb and flow too much to narrow it down to one. I also find age has changed my tastes (I used to hate when I was a teen and my mum would put on John Denver or Neil Diamond, now I find them ok). But apart from the ones listed above, Bruce Springsteen, John Foxx, Deep Purple, Rick Wakeman (although more as a music writer than songwriter), Bernie Taupin (with Elton John) ... in fact, I applaud anyone who's written a song - it's not always an easy thing to do!!

I left a message on SoundCloud about how your guitar playing is getting much better - I can certainly hear improvements to some of your earlier work. However the echo was a bit strong on the voice, making it hard to distinguish the lyrics, I got the general jist of the song and enjoyed it nonetheless!!

I always find your songs and videos interesting - you certainly have a knack for adding in 'ordinary' things and making it the visuals and audio line up. I'm glad you put something up, I do miss your esotoric videos!!

neophytte,  change / changing = close enough smile  I like the lyrics in this song, and a couple of the lines stuck out.  "how  can your voice make or break me" which particulary good and thought provoking.

Jandle, thanks for your kind words, I used to do this in my acoustic duo and the lady that sang it was way better than myself - have a listen to this version from 1992!! (recorded on a 4 track recorder)

thanks for putting the lyric here,i couldnt quite follow it in the song.

Hi EB,

Sorry, was in a rush when I put them up, because I use an iPad when I perform I 'scrunch up' the words so it all fits on one screen - I've edited it to make it (hopefully) easier to follow ...

Hope that helps!
