My wife bought me a Harmony F hole dreadnought with her very first paycheck from her new job. It set her back $50 in 1964.
It was good enough to learn on but no more.

It's my pleasure. I am a retired old guy and too old to gig anymore.
I enjoy helping young players find ways to play songs they like.
So many fine people helped me when I was coming up. This is one way for me to "pay it forward" for the good treatment I received.
I truly believe I have had more fun in my time than most white guys.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE TOO OLD TO GIG WHEN:

It becomes more important to find a place onstage for your box fan, than your amp.
You refuse to play out of tune.
Your gig clothes make you look like George Burns out for a round of golf.
Your fans have left by 10:30 p.m.
All you want from groupies is a foot massage.
Your aftershow party is at the International House of Pancakes.
You love taking the elevator because you can sing along to most of your playlist.
You hire band members for their values instead of their talent.
Instead of a fifth member, your band wants to spring for a roadie.
You've lost the directions to the gig.
You need your glasses to see your amp settings.
You've thrown out your back jumping off the stage.
You're thrilled to have New Year's Eve off.
The waitress is your daughter.
You stop the set because your bottle of Ibuprofen fell behind the speakers.
Most of your crowd just sways in their seats.
You find your drink tokens from last month's gig in your guitar case.
You no longer use a tip jar.
You refuse to play without earplugs.
You ask the club owner if you can start at 8:30 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m.
You check the TV schedule before booking a gig.
Your gig stool has a back.
You're related to at least one other member of the band.
You need a nap before the gig.
You don't let anyone "sit in."
After the third set, you bug the club owner to let you quit early.
During the breaks, you now go to your van to lay down.
You prefer a music stand with a light.
You don't recover until Tuesday afternoon.
You can't operate without a set list.
You have a contract.
You say you double on bass.

Muleybaby, you are very welcome. When I get time, I will do the Jeannie C. Riley song. In order to ruffle no more feathers, I will E-mail this one to you privately.
My grateful thanks and apologies to Roger and Per for putting up with my foolishness.

I wonder if I can legally only write the lyric word where the chord changes. It would be easier to comprehend. I'll try it and the moderators can strike it if necessary. Seems the best way to me.

Here is the song in 4/4 with one six beat measure. Can you spot it?

You can have a five beat measure in 4/4 time. If the music is playing to dancers, a 5 beat measure will make them change to the opposite foot. If you are playing in a band, it will make the writer very unpopular with the musicians if they haven't rehearsed it before.
I recorded a song with a six beat measure in a 4/4 song. I told the guitarist/writer he had been playing alone for too long.

Jerome O'Neil is correct. Nothing sounds worse than a timid singer.
If you're gonna hit a note that is a stinker, splatter it off the walls with gusto.
If you're going down, go down swinging. it's all about confidence.
Start out with a song you know well that doesn't have too much range.
Drill it over and over until you can't mess up.

Have you lived there all your life?
Not yet.

She is singing in the key of C#, so I put a capo on my first fret like she did and used chord shapes in C- such as C, Am, E, and Dm.

I hear: Am, E, Dm, Am, A7, Dm, G, C, E, Am, E, Am, G, (pause) C,

Dm, G, C, E, Am, E, Am, E, (pause)

Pretty song, Bonita Gazeta. Enjoy!

I was the arranger for several night club bands during the 60's, 70's and 80's. This was before computers were available.
You need an accurate copy of the lyrics in large print. Then play the song on U-Tube to find on which part (syllable) of the word the chord is struck. Jot the chord in red ink over that syllable in the lyric where the chord is strummed. Then play along with the video enough times to get the chords right and on time. Then add your vocal over and over until you are happy with your performance.
It is slow going the first time or two but you will speed up the process with enough practice.

Great job, Roger. You planted a good seed. No stopping them now.

I like the aluminum in the front and black in back.
