The fishing bug has hit here big time. Did a little horse trading and got myself not one but two 14' boats. The one is fiberglass and is more of a sport type, the other is aluminum and will probably be the main one I use. I can't believe the luck I had in getting these. 2 boats a trailer and outboard motor for less than $150.00. Gotta love it. On another note, it's good to be back on line. Our computer went down right after X-mas and have just now been able to replace it. Really missed checking in on the forum and keeping in touch with fellow Chordians. Rock on.

Just curious has anybody played or bought one of the robotic guitars made by Gibson? For those who don't know these guitars are self tuning, using an auxillary control located on the volume knob. I have never had the opportunity to check one out and was curious as to how well they work. You're supposed to be able to do alternate tunings with these as well. Seems like a great idea although they carry a hefty price tag.

while doing some research on setting up and lowering the action on my son's SG I came across the following site- www.mediawebsource.com   Click on this link then go to guitar resources for info on truss rod adjustment, intonation and other subjects related to setting up your guitar. Hope this helps anybody looking for this kind of instruction. Best wishes to all Chordians in the new year

If you go into the public books section and in the search bar type in" just weird" (minus the quotation mark)you'll find a book I made of some of my favorite goofy and fun songs. Hope you enjoy playing them

Just realized that due to my limited keyboarding skills that I created a new model of SG. The one we just got is actually an SG 310 not a 300. Whoops

My son found a deal on an Epiphone SG G-300 on a local classified web site. After looking at the ad and seeing the price I decided that this would be an awesome gift for him for X-mas. He is currently playing an Epiphone Les Paul Special that he received for Christmas two years ago. Anyhow, I contacted the person who placed the ad and got directions to his house and checked out this sweet guitar. After inspecting it and playing it for a bit I got out the checkbook and cut him a check for $125.00 (he originally wanted $150 but came down as it needed new strings) I brought it home and as no one was here changed the strings and proceeded to jam a little. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention and he walked in on me.You should have seen the look on his face.  After some stammering and stuttering I told him that this was indeed his present and let him play a bit. The look of joy was quickly replaced with one of frustration when I informed him that he couldn't actually have it till X-mas morning. He did his best to convince me that he should have it now and that it would make his appearance in the school Christmas show that much more impressive. (He and some friends are doing instrumental versions of some Christmas carols) So softy that I am I let him have it with the stipulation that I didn't want to hear any whining Christmas morning when he didn't have a "big present" under the tree. Now if he just doesn't find the amp.

Yeah, I'll take a chance on that. Kudos to you Pix for your generosity and thoughtfulness.  Here's wishing you and yours a great holiday season.

You  can find this right here on Chordie. Once you open the song look at the right hand side of the page, there you'll see a section that says "Transpose Chords" click on +2 semi-tones that will transpose the chords to the key of Em. This is a great song by an artist whose life ended too early.  Enjoy

Great story Pix. nothing beats spending quality time with the family. Get your time in with them now because as they get older you will feel that you need to make an appointment to see them.I'm still able to spend time with my two youngest boys because of shared interests(music and hunting) but my older ones have moved on with their own lives. This is natural but I still haven't gotten used to it. And for the record I was able to visualize your son playing soccer with a chicken and it did bring about a chuckle

I remember seeing somebody looking for tabs for Australian bands here a while back. I knew I had run across a site but couldn't remember how to get to it (another bout of sometimers disease, sometimes I remember, sometimes I can't) Go to www.totaltabs.com  There you'll find rock, country, christian and aussie tabs. Enjoy

Fantastic site Pix. Tons of tunes and the ability to slow the audio down.Great find

hey johnny, check out www.looknohands.com/chordhouse   Shows you how to play tons of chords, alternative tunings, scales. just lots of stuff.plus it's also got audio so you can hear what it should sound like. hope this helps

Maybe something by Heart or Avril Lavigne. Go through the public songbooks and I'm sure you'll find stuff that will interest her

Hey all, thanks for the input and info. I'm glad that not finishing the neck is a standard thing and not just shoddy workmanship. We're going to try some finger position markers for the neck and try to find some online video instruction for her. Hopefully she'll stick with this (unlike the piano and acoustic and bass guitars) if not then maybe I'll give it a try. (I always enjoyed Charlie Daniels)  . I'll try to keep an update of her progress here. Again thanks for your input

Do you remember the rush you first got when you knew that you had just nailed a difficult chord progression or lead run? Or the first time you played on stage and the crowd was wound up and partying like crazy and you knew you had them in the palm of your hand. I seem to have lost the spark that ignites that kind of flame. I don't know how many people out there that have lost the desire to play on a regular basis and were able to rekindle the flame. Let's hear your secrets. How do you keep your playing fresh and that flame burning bright?

My daughter just bought a violin/fiddle from the local music store and while I was looking at it I noticed there was no finish on the back of the neck. Not being a fiddler(although goodwife says I fiddle around) I was just curious,is this normal or did the shop take advantage of my daughters lack of knowledge and sell her a piece of junk. Also if anyone can direct me/her to some links with lessons as there are no violin instructors around here that I'm aware of,that would be great. The local music shop is of no help here offering only beginner guitar lessons and not much else. I appreciate any input from anyone with any experience at all.

Personally I think that a lot of expensive high end guitars are over rated. Take a lot of the new Martins, yes they have a AAA spruce top but the rest of the body is HLP (High Pressure Laminate) which means although it is (or was) wood you have no idea what kind. If I'm paying $2500 for an acoustic I want the real deal. My son has a Epi Les Paul Special that I got him for X-mas that plays as well as a friend of mines Gibson. I have a Rogue Strat copy that sounds great, I had to do a little fret work and adjust the intonation but I have a guitar that I have received many compliments on and payed less than $200 for.My advice is if you find a guitar that fits your budget and it sounds good and plays well, buy it. Even if you have to do a little tweaking to frets or pickups or action  it will usually be worth it in the long run

Haven't had too many chances to post recently as the construction season is in full swing but I found this site and had to share it with any fellow Ovation owners or anybody that's interested.I had been doing some research on my Ovation to try and find the manufacturers date (I got it used in a trade for another guitar and was curious as to who got the better end of the deal) At www.ovationfanclub.com there is a ton of information on literally every Ovation made. The info includes mfg. date, place and original suggested retail price. They also have a forum and owner pictures. Take a look and see if you can find your Ovation. And to everybody, enjoy the rest of the summer and keep on pickin

I had a Dean Flying Z(The fur covered guitars ZZ Top used) I thought it would be great as it had a tremolo and locking nut. After a few dive bombs the strings(particularly the G through the high E) would snap at the nut. The humbuckers were more hum than bucker and this thing had no sustain at all. I kept it about 6 months and traded it on a Aria PE-R80(Les Paul copy). I loved that guitar, unfortunatly it was killed in a automobile accident(but thats another story)

You can change them although you may have to purchase or make some type of ring to cover up the empty space. You may be able to purchase a blank pickguard and customize it. Personally I wouldn't mess with it, you stand a chance of ruining a fine guitar not to mention losing any resale value. If the wallet allowed I would purchase a strat or some other guitar equipped with single coils and leave the PRS as is.
