Today is Bossa Nova day smile   It's been awhile since I played this style so today I'm working through these vids again... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl8J2AcwngA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCrcpulS … ure=relmfu

Then on to Fran Guidry's version of Salomila... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4VE66NiCGE   I learned this about a year ago but haven't played it since then so it's giving me a fit today sad I'll get it though wink   Tabs can be found on Acoustic Guitar Magazines website in the February 08 issue....   Password to access the full issue is "Leapyear"

Making myself really practice today....  "If there is no struggle, there is no progress" is the motto for the day big_smile

Hey Pix, its the color of my favorite cherokee. Sadly she is no longer with us but the memory lives on, best rock crawler I ever had. Someday hope to buy her twin and visit the old cemetary on chimney top mountain again.

Very Cool smile  I'm an XJ nut too... I have 4 of 'em, an 88 with 4 inch lift some trimming and 33's/ 89 limited with 6.5 RE superflex lift & 33's/ 93 with 3.5 and 31's (my DD), and a stock 99 sport (the wifes). Thanks guys!

Greatbigdave I had the same problem with the song when learning it... Try using a pinch D (barre the gbe on 2nd fret with your index finger and catch the b string 3rd fret with your middle finger) I found this fingering made it much easier to catch the d string 4th fret with your ring finger for the beginning of the song and it also allows the middle finger to stay on the b string 2nd fret (or the ring finger on d string 4th while changing to BM, depending on the part of the song your on) during the change to BM acting as a pivot easing the change. I'll post a quick vid of my fingerings throughout the progression this afternoon if you'd like.... I know it's hard to understand written out like this but it really does make the song sooo much easier to play.... Especially during the chorus were you just change from D to BM repeatedly..

Welcome to Chordie!!

I'm not able to play for a few days...  Was installing a 3.5 lift to my 93 XJ and the wrench slipped and my arm hit the pinch seem of the body below the rockers and sliced my forearm. Only about 3 inches long but deep and if I extend my fretting arm too much the wound tears open again... Probably needs stitches but I superglued it closed and am going to take it easy for a few days while it heals up.

After Road I Must Travel it was Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch (beautiful song)
now it's Two Coins by Dispatch

One good thing about music, When it hits you feel no pain... yep Trenchtown Rock was next

Now for a little structured practice... Going to play Road I must Travel by The Nightwatchman (Tom Morello).  I've got the guitar parts knocked but it has way too many lyrics and I get lost in it.... Going to devote the next half hr to playing it over and over trying to get the lyrics right.

Started playing Last Dance with Mary Jane by Tom Petty but about half way through I switched over to barre chords and finished it off doing Dana California by The Chilli Peppers....  Same progression and overall rhthym to both songs so they blend really well....  Don't know what's next till I start strumming again...lol

Kinda feels like I'm doing something wrong posting this many replies one after another...lol but I think it's cool to see how other people flow from one song to the next when playing for themselves...

Those who only follow never surpass smile

I usually start off learning one pretty close to the original but by the time I play it for a few weeks it's morphed into something else entirely lol

Just finished Rocky Racoon by The Beatles (as covered by JJ)
Next is Losing Hope by Jack Johnson

Just a warning... I got rained out of work today so this could go on for a bit smile

You see a lot of topics here asking about what song you're working on, most played at the moment, guilty pleasure, etc....  If you're like me and spend a lot of time practicing/playing in front of the PC and browsing through Chordie between songs, I'd like you stop by this thread and post whatever it is you're actually playing at that moment (or just finished).... Whether it be something new you're working on, an old favorite, a new easy song you've recently found, something silly for the kids (or yourself wink) or something of your own creation. Hoping we can keep this thread going by updating it a little everytime someone picks up a guitar. Let us know what it is you're up to right now smile

For example:

Right before posting this I was playing Spanish Town by The Beautiful Girls over and over... Trying to get the little lead run after the chorus worked into it smoothly.

Fixing to hit post and play Hey there Delilah by The Plain White Tees just because I enjoy picking it smile

So you, holding the guitar in your lap, what'd you just finish playing or are fixing to play??  Curious minds want to know smile

Is this disabled so that Chordie can make more money and screw all the users? Or am I an idiot?

If these are the only two options..... Well it's not the first one big_smile

Chordie is only a search engine and doesn't host the songs themselves so downloading them from this site is not possible.  Welcome!

I'm a big Bread fan....  Get alot of slack over it from my jamming partners but hey smile   I'm well past worrying about what's cool. I play what I like and if they hate it they can wait outside till the song is done big_smile

I've got all the info somewhere man... I'll see if I can find the links and such when I have time (just got home from pulling a 11hr day and have 1 hr to rest before I head out to work tonight till around 4am and then back tomorrow morning at 8 for 12 more hrs...ugh) I will say that if you want to try a Yairi go for one made in the early 80's or before...  There's just something special about the older ones IMO. I've got 4 pre 80 models, if you're ever in the area feel free to stop in and pick one (or all) for awhile smile I'll try to get the links to ya tomorrow evening though... -Pix

Almost all I play is Yairi's smile They are by far my guitars of choice..... Actually I do have a link for you to get those replacement individual saddles somewhere. I'll go through my bookmarks on my home pc this evening after work and pass it on to you. Now that Im thinking about it, I'm pretty sure Bob Colosi makes them and I'd highly recommend his work and products! All top notch stuff and he's excellent to work with. A quick search will turn him up. If you can't find them on his page just give him a call @ nine one two - Eight eight two - one three two one and he'll take good care of ya.

Not really... They look closer here in the US because all Yairi's are set up by St. Louis Music (Alvarez distributor) Yairi's usually come with a more rounded/tradional styled pickguard with K. Yairi's logo on them... Here in the US they often get an Alvarez style pickguard stuck on them along with the alvarez name association and their version of the logo on the headstock making it seem they are closer than they really are.  It's a common misconception smile  Completely different guitars though.

Big diffrence in alvarez and yairi.... Not even the same makers.  Alvarez is simply an importer for Yairi and has no other connections/resemblances.  Totally different guitars.   Still it's a fine guitar and I'm not saying one is better than the other just making sure you're aware of their relationship. The usa is the only place were you find Alvarez/yairi guitars. In other places it's simply K. Yairi guitars....

Well there are some slight resemblances in some models... Yairi has shared his new bridge design with them allowing more transfrence to the top but that's about it. Build quality and tone are different.

Kids are off to school and we're (wifes going to play lifeguard) fixing to head that way smile   If anyone is interested here's a live webcam of the surf http://www.holden-beach.com/Content/surfreport.asp  It doesn't do the waves justice but still cool to watch... Cams a little choppy so you may have to watch for a minute before you see a good breaker....

We started getting storm swell here yesterday from it and it's been building... I started surfing it this morning at first light on Oak Island and it was 6ft and like glass with some nice barrels... Also hit Ocean Isle and Sunset Island and by the end of the day it was hitting 10-12 ft...  Should be about 17ft when I get there in the morning  smile
