Howdy,

I was at a gathering this summer and played this song with some other players and music lovers. A gal pulled me aside and said
she really liked the song and it had a good message, but I needed another verse , so after a couple months I sat down and added another verse. So here's a simple song from a Simple Fella smile

The Land Of the Free

[G]Living was easy , we spent more than we [C] made.
[D]My Father knew better shoulda listened to what he[G] said
[G]We thought life was easy it was all a big[C] joke
[D]We're the land of the free and the home of the[G] broke

[G]Living was easy and our credit, it was [C]good
[D]Wished I'd  listened to my father, if only I [G]could
[G]We were livin high there weren't no end in [C]sight
[D]Should listened to daddy , shoulda known he was [G]right.

Solo

(G) What about tomorrow , no let’s worry bout (C) today.
(D) Couldn’t miss the party what would the neighbors (G) say
(G) Keeping up with the Jone’s was the American (C) Way
(D) Who the hell, had heard of Freddie Mac or Fannie (G) Mae

[G]Well they fought for our freedom, but we done messed it
[ C]up
[D]We're the land of the free and the home of the[G] broke
[G]We thought life was easy it was all a big[C] joke
[D]We're the land of the free and the home of the [G]broke
[D]We're the land of the free and the home of the [G]broke

Pete,

You can't go wrong with either guitar. I have a HD-28 and I think it is one of the best sounding guitars in this part of the country. It is a deep warm rich sound and I can't ever see parting with it.

The J-45 has a better action and is easier to play , it has a very different voice than the HD-28, I really like them both, the J-45 is a Spruce top with Mahagony back and sides and the HD-28 is a spruce top with rosewood back and sides.

I feel very fortunate to have them and I would have a really hard time deciding if I had to give one of them up. In my opinion
you can't go wrong with either guitar they are both  quality instruments.

Hope you find the one that's Calling your Name !

Hello Everyone,

Just made it back to civilization after a 25 day hitch in the outback of Wyoming. I am gonna play with my toys and chill out, this was one of the most stressfull things I have done for awhile. Hired out to a new company and they are very corporate and a big shock to my system.

Anyway my niece sent me this video this thing is huge !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or Robert Plant doing videos with Alison Kraus , dancing around her, shaking his hair , maybe 40 yrs ago......

Here ya go Butch,

Here's a vid,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZXaWN_9Z1E

I played it and I think he is playing chord shapes  Em7   Cadd9  G  D  Dsus

It sounds ok just playing EM C  G  D   also

Just play along with the Vid smile

Martin SP's are my string of choice and I have said it many times before. I think Elixirs and some of the other coated strings sound good on laminate guitars, But they seem to dull the sound or muffle it on Solid wood guitars. I am talking unplugged natural sound,

Martin SP"S are hard to beat and I think I get as much out of them as Elixirs. I do use Elixirs on my Yairi and it is my choice for it.
I also use Martins on the J-45 after trying several other brands it sounds clear and resonates better with the Martins.

Good answer Jerome,

Everything is related to scales smile

In the Key of G there is an Em, I just transposed it to see how it sounded with an open Minor chord. In G the progression is

G F C G
G F C D
G Em C G
G C D G

Zurf it sounds right to me with the F#m ,  I first played it in A and used a barre F#m then I transposed it to G and walked down to the Em and it sounds correct that way also. Maybe you are holding it too long. I will go listen to it some more, I am not too familiar with it .

That's correct Pix,

I have my own way of counting on my fingers if I don't have a circle of fifths chart handy. My first finger is the key and as I count my fingers by wholenotes the sixth finger is the relative minor . Hope Jerome doesn't beat me up to bad for my ignorance smile

Good for you Tops,

I quit about 30 yrs ago, I will bum a cigarette while playing with friends once and awhile. I usually don't smoke it but I like to stick the lit cigarette between my low e-string and the headstock to look like a rock n roller smile

Heya Tops,

Adam's grandfather was an Air Force pilot in  World War II  and his family has a aerial crop spraying business among many other things they do. Grandpa taught the sons and grandkids to fly and they are a very talented bunch of good folks.

Here is a nice song, a friend put together. He is a young fella but has been makin music since he was just a little boy. Adam Taylor plays guitar , banjo and harmonica. He is a good friend of my daughter Maria and he played at her wedding. Adam and I played together at the reception. He is very serious about his music and comes from a great musical family. Adam's 21 now and I think he has a bright future.

Here's a vid of an original song he put together
