Thanks Pete - It is a dance we learn, living with another human partner in our lives. And as Beamer says, sometimes it doesn't work out. I know I am fortunate.

Thanks, Jim. I've used the "fine" reply before too.

A very heartfelt pic ode. I most likely would have stuck it in a drawer. Now you know where to go if you misplace your new pic. My couch is where most of my old pics are buried, usually unintended.

Hey Phill - Yes, in a way. I was asked to help with vacation planning and I was not much help. Most of my responses were, "Yes, that sounds nice." Or, "Sure, let's go there." Then I got "the look". Which I of course ignore. smile Thanks.

No Thoughts Unkind

I don’t know where
I want to go
So when you ask
You ought to know
That just right now
I just can’t decide
Whether to stay
Or run and hide
But if I stay
I know that I
Will restlessly
Stay by your side
I may get on
Your nerves again
So you’ll ignore
And can pretend
That I’m not there
Or that I am
And all is right
In the world again
The rain is light
The sun is warm
The world is right
And free of harm
And all is well
We tell our mind
A fib we tell
No thoughts unkind

Hey Jim - I like it, especially the use of the G to F in the verses.

I don't mind - I know people are busy.

Thanks Pete - This winter I was writing a lot, and my mind was more on the creative side than it is now. I still get in that creative mood but not quite as often.

Thanks Pete and Joe. This song was about my retirement that is coming not too far in the future but for now too far for me to be able and take an unscheduled day off. When I do I know who it will be with, but then most any place in the world will be wide open to visit if I want. Joe, I'll pull for them, whatever they want to call them, but Redskins still works for me too...and I still watch whenever I'm able.

Hey All,

Here is another. Wrote a while ago but just uploaded to soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/jets60/so-long-a … s-this-way

So Long as the Weather Stays this Way by Jeff Gilpin

3-12-2021

~

[E]I woke up this morning and

[E]The weather was pristine.

[A]The sun just started rising,

[E]Mother Nature doing her thing.

[C]I made a pot of coffee,

[D]While it brewed I walked outside.

[E]The quiet morning greeted me

[E]As I tried to decide. [C] [D] [E]

~

Should I head to the office,

Or head out to the hills?

In for a day behind a desk,

Or out for a day of thrills?

Should I stray off my daily path?

It’s so tempting just to stray,

But I went on in to work

Just like every other day.

~

I made it home that evening

After my daily grind.

I made it to the weekend with my

Work week left behind.

I reflected on my decision.

I reflected on how I live.

I thought about how much longer

I’d be willing just to give.

~

[C]How much really is enough?

[A]How much is too much [E]pain?

[C]What would I do if not my job

[A]With nothing left to [D]gain?

[C]Nothing but whatever it is

[A]I figure out to [E]do,

[C]Going anywhere I want

[D]With the [B7]people I want [E]too.

~

The mountains might be calling,

Maybe even the sea,

Or all the places in between.

They all could be calling me,

And I won’t have to go,

And I won’t have to stay.

I could even stay at home if I want to,

So long as the weather stays this way.

Hey all,

Here's a song I wrote earlier this year and just uploaded to Soundcloud. Hope you enjoy: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/think-the … s-lighting

I Think the Bulb Is Lighting by Jeff Gilpin

Written on Feb-22-2021

~

Intro fingerpicking E7

~

Up in the [A7]night [E7]time

And contem[A7]pla[E7]ting

The meaning [A7]of [E7]ev[A7]ery[E7]thing

About the [A7]flo[E7]wers

And morning [A7]sho[E7]wers

Waving [A7]waves [E7]in [A7]the [E7]breeze

~

I [D7]think the bulb is [E7]lighting

[D7]Glowing and [E7]brightening

[D7]Thinking my [A7]thinking’s [D7]paying [E7]off

~

And when I’m [A7]wat[E7]ching

A little [A7]some[E7]thing

Whatever [A7]cat[E7]ches [A7]my [E7]eye

It could be [A7]star[E7]light

Maybe a [A7]flash[E7]light

Or lightning [A7]bugs [E7]in [A7]the [E7]sky

~

I [D7]think the bulb is [E7]lighting

[D7]Glowing and [E7]brightening

[D7]Thinking my [A7]thinking’s [D7]paying [E7]off

~

[B7]Wandering thoughts go where they [E7]will

[B7]Making my thoughts wander [E7]still

[B7]Down a crooked lane

Or [Bm7]out a windowpane

Or when I [A7]shutting my eyes

[B7]Much to my surprise

~

I close my [A7]eyes [E7]tight

To shut out [A7]the [E7]light

But even [A7]still [E7]light [A7]gets [E7]in

And I see the [A7]sha[E7]dows

Reflecting [A7]rain[E7]bows

Making me [A7]won[E7]der [A7]with[E7]in

~

I [D7]think the bulb is [E7]lighting

[D7]Glowing and [E7]brightening

[D7]Thinking my [A7]thinking’s [D7]paying [E7]off

Hey Pete - Trying to figure this out. Are you using barre chords for this song? Seems like the chord progression is suited for barre chords.

You never have heard that before??? Off one of the top 5 records (IMHO) they have big_smile

"So if you're down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you're downright disgusted
And life ain't worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes"

Yep - backside of the Miss You  45 - Written by Kieth and Mick. It's funny because the song, Miss You, is more R&B, and an awesome song in its own right.

Wow, Scott - Lots going on there, powerful stuff. It's like a day-in-the-life anywhere on the planet these days. Would love to hear how the words weave with the music.

OK I will play along, as each have contributed to this poem and song.

The cunning mind, feels alone
As it leaves us all behind.
Forward into the nether we shall meet our end
And hear our final chime.

Some await the final moment
The greatest question will be known,
What will be the answer?
Will the mind be blown?

I'll keep it going big_smile

Quoting quoted quotes
Cause my thoughts to wander
To the state of Washington
Across the pond, I ponder

Limitless in scope
The topics where we tread
Tickles in my throat
Whiskey colored red

A toast! I raise my glass
In hopes of brighter days
To thought-provoking friends
Whose words always amaze

Just something that came to me so I thought I would share.
Predicate (I went with the verb def because it was easier for me to rhyme with.)
verb
/ˈpredəˌkāt/
1. state, affirm or assert (something) about the subject of a sentence or an argument of a proposition.
"a word that predicates something about its subject"
2.
found or base something on.
"The theory of structure on which later chemistry was predicated"

World Predicate By Jeff Gilpin

Intro E D A D

~

I [E]think about the world I live in.

I [E]think about all the places I’ve been.

[A]Yet my world view’s been thinner than thin.

And I [E]still go and visit old places again.

My [D]fear of what’s out there’s not up for debate.

But I [A]still want to find a better [D]world predicate.

~

[E]How in the world can I describe?

[E]Places where people can barely abide.

Or [A]hold in their anger all cooped up inside.

Or [E]maybe they are just along for the ride.

[D]Hoping they get out before it gets too late.

[A]Maybe find a better [D]world predicate.

~

[E]I cannot know all of the places.

[E]I will not be able to see all the faces.

[A]I am like old shoes without any laces.

[E]No paths to explore or old path retraces.

[D]There is no victory I can celebrate.

[A]While I try to find a better [D]world predicate.

~

[E]Woods getting old crumbling to dust.

[E]People backstabbing no one can you trust.

[A]Try to survive before we all go bust.

[E]Crumbling old bridges just covered in rust.

I want to [D]cross that bridge that divides the hate.

[A]Might bring a better [D]world predicate. [E7]
