Life On Mars David Bowie
[F]It's a [F/E]God awful small affair [F7]
To the [D7]girl with the mousy hair
[Gm]But her [Gm7]mummy is yelling no
[C]And her [C7]daddy has told her to [F]go
But her [F/E]friend is nowhere to be [F7]seen
Now she [D7]walks through her sunken dream
[Gm]To the [Gm7]seat with the clearest view
[C]And she's [C7]hooked to the silver screen
[Ab/Eb]But the fil[Ab#5/E]m is a saddening bore
[Fm]For she's [Ab7]lived it ten times or more
[Db]She could [A]spit in the eyes of fools
[Bb]As they [B]ask her to focus on
CHORUS 1:
[Bb]Sailors [Eb]fighting in the dance hall
Gm F#aug5 F
Oh man look at those cavemen go
[Fm]It's the freakiest [Cm7]show
[Ebm7]Take a look at the [Bb]lawman [Eb]beating up the wrong guy
Gm F#aug5 F
Oh man wonder if he'll ever know
[Fm]He's in the best selling [Cm7]show
Ebm7 Gm F#aug5 Bb Em7dim5
Is there life on mars?

[F]It's on A[F/E]mericas tortured brow [F7]
That Mickey [D]Mouse has grown up a cow [Gm]
Now the [Gm7]workers have struck for fame [C]
Cos [C7]Lennon's on sale again
[F]See the [F/E]mice in their million hoards [F7]
From I[D]biza to the Norfolk Broa[Gm]ds
Rule Brit[Gm7]tannia is out of bounds [C]
To my [C7]mother my dog and clowns
[Ab/Eb]But the fil[Ab#5/E]m is a saddening bore
[Fm]Cause I [Ab7]wrote it ten times or more
[Db]It's a[A]bout to be writ again
[Bb]As they [B]ask her to focus on

NOTES:
This is very much a piano song and is quite difficult to get a good sounding
version on guitar. Pay careful attention to the chord shapes at the top. It
sounds awful if the wrong strings ring out. For the first four chords of every
verse, F F/E F7 D, try to only play the B, G and D strings of the guitar.
Picking is the best way to get it across nice and subtle. For the chorus you may
want to play the Bb up at the 6th fret so it's easier to get to the Eb:
