Introduction: D/E G Asus D/E G
Ja[D/E]nuary's always bitter[G]
But [Asus]Lord, this one beats [D/E]all[G6] [Gadd9/D]
The [D/E]wind ain't quit for weeks now[G]
[A-Asus-A] [A]
And the drifts are ten feet ta------ll
[D/E]I've been a[G]ll night drivin' heifers[A]
Closer in to lower g[D/E]round[C/D]
Then I s[D/E]pent the mornin' thinkin'[A]
'Bout the ones the wolves pulled [D/E]down[G/D] [G]
Charlie B[D/E]arton and his family[G]
Stopped to[Asus]day to say good[D/E]bye[G6] [Gadd9/D]
He said the [D/E]bank was takin' over[G]
The last few years were just too[A-Asus-A] dr-----y[A]
[D/E]And I p[G]romised that I'd visit[A]
When they found a place in[D/E] town[C/D]
Then I s[D/E]pent a long time thinkin'[A]
'Bout the ones the wolves pull d[D/E]own
CHORUS:

On those of [A]us who fall beh[D]ind[Dsus] [-] [D]
And w[G]hen we st[A]umble [D]in the s[G]now[F#m] [-] [Em]
Could you help us [D]up while there's still [A-Asus-A]t---i--me
Well, I don't [D/E]mean to be complainin' Lord[G]
But you've [Asus]always seen me t[D/E]hrough[G] [Asus]
And I [D/E]know you got your reasons[G]
[A-Asus-A] [A]
For each and every thing you do------
B[D]ut ton[G]ight outside my window[A]
There's a lonesome, mournful [Bm]sou-[-]---[C/D]nd
And I [D/E]just can't keep from thinkin'[A]
'Bout the ones the wolves pull [D/E]down[G]
Oh [D/E]Lord, keep me from bein'[A]

In the Chorus, the chord progression sounds much better if you
use a G bar chord before the F#m. In the ending, strum a D/E
chord, but right after you hit the final string, use a hammer-
on in the second fret to get the final D chord.
This is a pretty easy song, but most of the chords don't sound
right if you strum instead of pick. You'll have to listen to
the song carefully to get what string order. Maybe someday I'll
Tab out the whole song...
