Drink Down the Moon Steeleye Span
I have tabbed this in the key of A minor but I think the original is in F minor.
I normally play it with capo at fret 2.
Three [Am]maidens a [G]milking did [Am]go
Three [C]maidens a [Am7]milking did [G]go
And the [Am]wind it did blow [G]high, and the [Am]wind it did blow [G]low
It [Am]tossed their [G]petticoats to and [Am]fro
They [Am]met with some [G]young man they [Am]know
They [C]met with some [Am7]young man they [G]know
And they [Am]boldly ask-ed [G]him, if [Am]he had any [G]skill
To [Am]catch them a [G]small bird or [Am]two
Oh [Am]yes I've a [G]very good [Am]skill
Oh [C]yes I've a [Am7]very good [G]skill
And it's [Am]come along with [G]me, to [Am]yonder flowering [G]tree
And [Am]I'll catch a [G]small bird or [Am]two
So it’s [Am]off to the [G]green woods went [Am]they
And it's [C]off to the [Am7]green woods went[G] they
And he t[Am]apped at the [G]bush, and the [Am]bird it did fly [G]in
A [Am]little ab[G]ove her lily white [Am]knee
( Tab from: http://www.guitartabs.cc/tabs/s/steeleye_span/drink_down_the_moon_crd.html )
Her [Am]sparkling eyes they [G]did turn ar[Am]ound
Just as [C]if she had been [Am7]all in a [G]swoon
And she [Am]cried "I've a [G]bird, and a [Am]very pretty [G]bird
And he's [Am]pecking aw[G]ay at his own [Am]ground"
Instrumental
Here's a [Am]health to the b[G]ird in the [Am]bush
Here's a[C] health to the[Am7] bird in the[G] bush
And we'll [Am]drink up the [G]sun, we'll d[Am]rink down th[G]e moon
Let the [Am]people say [G]little or [Am]much
There [Am]is a thorn bush in [Em]our cale yard
There [G]is a thorn bush in our cale yard
At the [Am]back o'[G]thorn [Am]bush there lays a lad and [Am7]lass
And they're [G]busy busy fairing at the [Am]cuckoo's nest
[Am]Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, [Em]hi the cuckoo's nest
[G]Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
I'd give [Am]anybo[G]dy a [Am]shilling and a bottle of the [Am7]best
That'll [G]rumple up the feathers in the [Am]cuckoo's nest
It is [Am]thorn and it is prickle, it is [Em]compassed all around
It is [G]thorn and it is prickle, and it isn't easy found
She [Am]said “[G]young man you [Am]blunder” and I said it isn't [Am7]true
And I [G]left her with the makings of a [Am]young cuckoo
[Am]Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, [Em]hi the cuckoo's nest
[G]Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
I'd give [Am]anybo[G]dy a [Am]shilling and a bottle of the [Am7]best
That'll [G]rumple up the feathers [-----]^in the [Am]cuckoo's nest.
