The Seventh Seal Scott Walker
Intro: Gm Cm D7 Gm
[Gm]Anybody seen a [Gm7]Knight pass this way?
[Gm]I saw him playing chess with Death [F]yesterday
[Gm]His crusade was a search for [Eb]God and they say[F]
It's [Eb]been a long [F]way to carry on[Cm]
[Gm]Anybody hear of [Gm7]plague in this town?
[Gm]The town I've left behind was [F]burnt to the ground
[Gm]A young girl on a stake, her [Eb]face framed in [F]flames
Cried "[Eb]I'm not a [F]witch, God knows my name"[Eb]
[Gm]The Knight he watched with fear,[Gm7] he needed to know
[Gm]He ran where he might feel God's [F]breath
[Gm]And in the misty church he [Eb]knelt to [F]confess
[Eb]The face within the [F]booth was [Cm]Mister Death[C#m]
[G#m]"My life's a vain pursuit[G#m7] of meaningless miles"
[G#m]"Why can't God touch me with [F#]a sign?"
[G#m]"Perhaps there's no-one there" [E]answered the [F#]booth
[E]And Death hid with[F#]in his cloak and [C#m]smiled
[G#m]"This morning I played chess with [G#m7]Death" said the Knight
[G#m]"We played that he might grant me [F#]time"
[G#m]"My Bishops and my Knights [E]will shatter his [F#]flanks"
[E]"And still I might [F#]feel God's heart [C#m]in mine"
[G#m]And through confession's grille [G#m7]Death's laughter was heard
[G#m]The Knight cried "No - you've cheated [F#]me!"
[G#m]"But still I'll find a way. We'll [E]meet once a[F#]gain"
[E]"And once again [F#]continue to [C#m]play"[Dm]
[Am]They met within the woods, [Am7]the Knight, his Squire and friends
[Am]And Death said "Now the game [G]shall end"
[Am]The final move was made, the [F]Knight hung his [G]head
[F]And said "You've won. [G]I've nothing left to [Dm]play"
[Am]The minstrel, filled with visions, [Am7]sang to his love
[Am]To look against the stormy [G]sky
[Am]The Knight, his Squire and friends, [F]their hands held as [G]one
[F]Solemnly [G]danced towards the [Dm]dawn
[Am]His hourglass in his hand, [G]his scythe by his side
[Am]The master Death, he leads them [G]on
[Am]The rain will wash away the [F]tears from their [G]faces
[F]And as the thunder [G]cracked, they were [Am]gone.
[G] [Am] [G] [Am]
