L.A. County Lyle Lovett
Song: LA County
Capo 4
She left [G]Dallas for Cali[Cadd9]fornia with an [G]old friend at her [Cadd9]side
Well they did not [G]say much but one year [Cadd9]later he?d asked [G]her to be his [Cadd9]wife
And the [G]lights of LA [Cadd9]County, they look like [G]diamonds in the [Cadd9]sky
When your [G]drivin? through the [Cadd9]hours with an [G]old friend at your [Cadd9]side
Chord progression same thoughout song till end
One year later I left Houston with an old friend at my side
Well he did not say much but it was a beauty of a coal black .45
And the lights of LA County, they look like diamonds in the sky
When your driving through the hours with an old friend at your side
So I drove on all the day long and I drove on through the night
and I thought of her awaiting for to be his blushing bride
And the lights of LA County they look like diamonds in the sky
As I drove in to the valley with my old friend at my side
And as she stood there at the alter all dressed in her gown of white
Lord, her face was bright as the stars a-shining, like I dreamed of all my life
And they kissed each other and they turned around and saw me standing in the aisle
Well I did not [G]say much, I just stood there [Cadd9]watching as that .4[D]5 told them good[G]bye
And the [Cadd9]lights of LA [G]County look like [D]diamonds in the [G]sky
When your [Cadd9]kneeling at the [G]alter with an [D]old friend at your [G]side
And the lights of LA County are a mighty pretty sight
When your kneeling at the alter with an old friend at your side

Close enough for government work. I think Lyle Lovette makes good use of capos, so do that to suit. I use a std C-maj the first time in each line and then to the Cadd9 on the second time for each line. Sometimes I throw in a hammer on or a C dim or something just to break up the monotony. But by and large, it's a repetitive song that sounds good less adorned rather than more.
