We Don't Eat  James Vincent McMorrow

INFO BY THE TABBER

 ------------------

The chords are pretty straightforward, what's more difficult is capturing
the beat and piano bass.
Personally, I like to play the first verse through the second chorus (i.e.
until the bridge) in a pretty straight 4/4 strum, with a small crescendo
throughout. I play the first part of the bridge pretty sparsely (one strum
per chord), but the second part (G - F - Am - G) I pick up the beat again,
go 8/8 with crescendo, and then culminate in the release on the chorus.
Again, this is a personal choice. In other words, play it as you like.
[////////////////////////////]
INTRO
[-----]
[G] [C] [G]
VERSE 1

 -------

If [G]this is redemption, why do I bother at all?
There's [Em]nothing to mention, [C] and nothing has [G]changed
[C] Still I'd rather be[D] working at something,[Em] than praying for the rain
So I [C]wander on, till [D]someone else is [G]saved
VERSE 2 (same chords as Verse 1)

 -------

I moved to the coast, under a mountain
Swam in the ocean, slept on my own
At dawn i would watch the sun, cut ribbons through the bay
I'd remember all, the things my mother wrote
CHORUS

 ------

That we don't [Em]eat until your [C]father's at the [G]table
And we don't [Em]drink until the [C]devil's turned to [G]dust
And never [Em]once has any [C]man I've met been [G] [D/F#]able [Em]to love
So [C]if I were you, I'd [D] have a little [G]trust[G4] [G]
VERSE 3

 -------

Two thousand years, I've been in that water
Two thousand years, sunk like a stone
Desperately reaching for nets that the fishermen have thrown
Trying to find a little bit of hope
VERSE 4

 -------

Me, I was holding, all of my secrets soft and hid
Pages were folded; then there was nothing at all
So if in the future I might, need myself a savior
I'll remember what was written on that wall
CHORUS

 ------

That we don't eat until your father's at the table
And we don't drink until the devil's turned to dust
And never once has any man I've met been able to love
So if I were you, I'd have a little trust
BRIDGE

 ------

[Dm] Am I an honest man and [Em]true?
Have I been good to you at [Dm]all?
Oh I'm so tired of playing these [Am]games
We'd just be running down
The [G]same old lines, the same old stories of
[F] Breathless trains and, worn down glories
[Am] Houses burning, worlds that turn
[G] On their own
CHORUS

 ------

That we don't [Em]eat until your [C]father's at the [G]table
And we don't [Em]drink until the [C]devil's turned to [G]dust
And never [Em]once has any [C]man I've met been [G] [D/F#]able [Em]to love
So if [C]I were you my friend
[D] Learn to have just a little bit of t[G]rust.
